I am, you are, we all are… Australian.

However what's your background?
Want as many users as possible to discuss and chuck a vote in.
Very curious to know what the people of this forum backgrounds are.

Sorry if I missed anything in the selections. Choose other and explain in a post.

This is not a background - Caucasian (Australian)

We are all Australians and we all came from somewhere else in our backgrounds.
Yes, even the Aboriginals.

Why you would not include English, Scottish, Welsh, Irish and NZ in your categories is dumbfounding - as they are the biggest groups.

OK, just to be clear….
I don't want to offend people.

Im not going to name every single country in the world. Don't be pc Russel, choose Caucasian or other and clarify in a post.

Keep it simple peeps, Inks post a great example :slight_smile:

Aussie born from Aussie born parents. Been a Tigers tragic for as long as I can remember. Lived in Australia, Mid East and pacific islands. Married to Chinese wife. Love celebrating and living diversity!

My grandmother on my dad's side parents were: father = Irish
Mother = New Zealand
Migrated 1915

My grandfather on my dad's sign parents were: Father = British
Mother = Scottish
Migrated in 1910

Parents on my mums side are both Turkish Cypriot. ( both live in London)

I was born in Sydney, NSW at Mater Hospital, North Sydney

Born and bred in Camperdown, both my parents migrated from Lebanon in the early 70's. I've been a Tigers tragic since I could remember.

Both parents migrated from Italy in the early 1950s.
We’re all proud Aussies but I’d seriously eat Pasta 3 times a day if possible

Mixed bag really

Grandmother's family was a convict , and is a Tasmanian Walker (famous family in Tasmania , owned a lot of pubs and many were Freemasons )She married an Englishman who basically lied about who he was claimed who his family was , rich and had claimed he had a family shield …....He is my connection to WHU

Mum's side both were English , Grandfather is from Leighton ,Buzzard had the unusual role during WWII of flying in reconnonnaise planes and drawing the cities they would later bomb as he was an artist

Nanna's family were originally from Taunton in Somerset and her parents were killed during the London bombings in WWII , her 2 brothers and sister were taken while she worked , she never met one again , one amazingly ended up in Melbourne

They were all 10 pound Poms

One of my step Grandparents had 1/16 indigenous blood

My partner's family are Greek , from the island of Kythera , we have inherited a part share of her Grandparents home at Kythera

Further back in the family genealogy we have some German and Irish as well

Pure Lebo both sides in spite of them originally coming here two centuries ago in 1887.

When Australia became a nation the white Australia policy halted migration but then was re-opened due to the WW1 Turkish genocide of Lebo Christians as they were deemed traitors. Amazingly it is all on the internet, 1901 original letters of and to my great grand relos being ordered to stay in Port Said, Egypt so they could do the foreign language test and fail.

My uncle was at the Cowra POW breakout and witnessed the Japanese lie down in front of trains to become mince meat. Due to shock he hardly spoke for the next 15 years yet was court-marshalled and imprisoned for desertion when being sent to New Guinea. He did not tell us until he was 85 years old, he is now 95.

Maybe we never felt Aussie due to racism but we are sort of proud, intelligent and successful so don't let it effect us except we don't marry Australian. I partly regret to say that there is not one tradesmen amongst all my relos - all bloody degree holders and useless.

I am a dark sheep in all communities due to my outrageous protests especially against religion - but that is life and that is the Aussie part of me. I love Aussie rock songs, Gough Whitlam and the Aborigines. (whom haven't I mentioned?)

My family has been in Oz for awhile. My first ancestor was on the 2nd fleet as a convict. However I was born in London . My parents grew up in Merrylands (Sydney) got Married and travelled the world (in the late 1960’s /early 70’s) . I was about 18months when I arrived in Oz.
