EXCLUSIVE: TODD PAYTEN NAMES HIS TOP 17 PLAYERS
23/08/2011 5:27:03 PM

Wests Tigers Prop Todd Payten has chosen a team made up of the very best players he played with in his outstanding career from 1996 to 2011.

Exclusive to weststigers.com, Payten has chosen a 17-man team in positional order after playing reflecting on some of the wonderful players he played alongside at Canberra, Sydney Roosters and Wests Tigers.

Starting tomorrow, Payten will reveal his best full-back and wingers and the reasons why.

Each day up until Monday, weststigers.com.au will reveal Payten’s chosen players in different positions and will allow fans to ‘Have Their Say’ on Payten’s selections.

It is all part of the countdown to Todd Payten’s last home game for Wests Tigers at Campbelltown Sports Stadium this Monday night.

As Payten gradually reveals his top 17, please add to the list in this thread rather than creating new ones.

Will be interesting to see who gets the nod at 5/8…

Itll be Benji…Daley and Fittler were awesome but were in superstar sides....For the most part Benji hasnt been. Skill wise I believe he has them. They have him in experience and decsion making ability...If he had of played in their sides he would have achieved everything that they did.

Itll be interesting to see who makes his forward pack….Remember he played with Wiki, Clyde, Furner, Kennedy and Croker at Canberra as well as nearly the whole Ozzy pack at the roosters...

I think only Farrah will make it. Unless he played with boxhead which he may have...cant remember.

Im really interested in this side, he has played with some very players in some very good sides….The raiders late 90's, Roosters early 2000's plus us.
Wonder who will wear 6, Daley, Fittler or Benji!! My guess on his side

1\. Brett Hodson
2\. Anthony Minichiello
3\. Laurie Daley
4\. Chris Lawrence
5\. Brett Mullins
6\. Benji
7.Ricky Stuart
13\. Brad Fittler
12\. Gareth Ellis
11\. Bryan Fletcher
10\. Adrian Morely
9\. Robbie Farah
8\. Ruban Wiki

Reserves
Luke Ricketson
Anthony Lafrenci
Chris Heignington
Jason Croker

There is so many I have left out, Im sure Im forgetting a lot and I might be a little tiger heavy

look forward to the team

Forgot about Clyde and Kennedy, 2 of the best forwards I can remember.

Yeah you may be a little tiger heavy there Goose…Mini and Mullins were greater fullbacks then Hodgo...you have also left Clyde and Kennedy out. Also think Wind ding will get the utility spot.

For mine, only Benji and Robbie make the cut.

I cheated with the fullbacks, figured they all should be there, and hodgo was the only one of the 3 not to play to play wing

Kennedy and Clyde have to come in at the expense of Lafrencci and Heino, god knows who ends up on the bench, maybe fittler and fletcher…..

as I said, great team, so many good players will miss out, I reckon Im prob forgetting a few as well

Kennedy didnt really have an impact until he got to the Knights & then Manly….doesnt mean he cant name him tho I spose

Did Big Mal play with Payten ??
Clyde and Kennedy have to be in the side
Kenny Nagas , Noa Nodroke
At least we know who the coach will be

Big Mal retired in 1994, so 2 years before Payten debuted and Belcher retired a year before that.
I also don't think Wiki will be there because he was in the backline when he was at Canberra.

I'll go:
1\. Hodgson
2\. Minnichiello
3\. Daley
4\. Lawrence
5\. Mullins
6\. Marshall
7\. Prince
8\. Morley
9\. Farah
10\. Cayless
11\. Heighington
12\. Clyde
13\. Fittler

14\. Wing
15\. Furner
16\. Ellis
17\. Pongia

I thought I'd put Pongia in there, as the prop on the bench, I think he is pretty underrated. The reason why I left Stuart and Walters out was because they were past their best when Todd began.
So many great players that missed out though, Fitzgibbon, Kennedy, Stuart, Croker, Nagas, Ricketson, Finch, Crocker, Walters, Nadruku, Wiki and I'm sure theres more.

I'll say

1\. Mullins
2\. Minichiello
3\. Daley
4\. Lawrence
5\. Negas
6\. Fittler/Marshall
7\. Stuart
8\. Cayless
9\. Farah
10\. Morley
11\. Furner
12\. Wiki
13\. Clyde

14\. Marshall/Fittler
15\. Ellis
16\. Fletcher
17\. Wing

I doubt he'll go with a conventional bench. Considering he's been apart of 2 premiership winning squads and was just a few years late from the last Raiders' one, it's going to be an incredible 17\. I think we will have the lowest representation out of the 3 clubs though. Marshall and Farah will be there for sure, Lawrence and Ellis probably will too, I can't see any others making it, except maybe Hodgson, Skandalis, Heighington and Tuqiri.
