Big F1 fan here.

My hero growing up was Senna.

Me too. Nothing sadder than the race that ended his life.

Didn't really have a favourite that year as his rival Prost had retired, but remember that night with Ayrton slumped after the car bounced off the wall. The atmosphere was already tense and sombre pre-race with Ratzenberger having been the first death in a decade or so and whilst a hard track for overtaking, enjoyed the return Covid allowed to Imola last year. He pushed that car to the edge of it's capability and past it to be competitive and lucked out.

Also recall talking to the TV in disbelief with Biachi lodged into the recovery lifter at Suzuka whilst the commentary team were trying to work out where he was on track and if his transponder had failed.

All deaths are a tragedy in F1 but Bianchi's death was quite simply a crime. It was madness to have the crane out there.

Agree, that was insane.

Senna, while tragic, always pushed the machine past it's limits. If anyone was going to go that way, it was him.

You can't always take a lot away from testing these days but Mercedes must have some concern over the handling of their car coming out of the last 3 days. Hamilton in particular lost the rear of the car more than once which is not a mistake he is known for.

Red Bull on the other hand look fast and the rear end of their car looks improved over last year's. McLaren look like they're in for a good season with no reliability issues and they must be happy they decided to build their own gearbox and not use one supplied by Mercedes, which Aston Martin had trouble with. McLaren also looked very stable across the Bahrain circuit which bodes well for good race pace.

Looking forward to race 1 in 2 weeks time.

Has anyone seen the Ricciardo interview where he is with Seb and Lewis and says to the reporter that between the three of us we have 8 World titles so I am sure we are all looking to get another one.

He is a funny bugger and I hope he does well and I will be going to Melbourne later in the year 🤞

I reckon that Mercedes had the sandbags in the rear end.

Maybe...They've deliberately held back on their performance runs in previous seasons but they've never lost the rear end like they have in this one, and that will be their main concern as Bahrain can throw a lot of different wind changes at the cars.

This is my favourite Ricciardo presser...

Like everyone else, I hope it's the correct move for RIC and it sure looks like he won't be in a worse car, though the Renault powered teams often had plenty of speed last year, so don't expect more than a tenth or so gain on power alone. Hoping that the work they put in changing their front last year in preparation benefits the more "Coke bottle" shaped rear packaging allowed by the split turbo there with the Mercedes power unit.

McLaren look to have found a loophole to get past the new rules limiting downforce at the rear diffuser, by extending the middle of the floor past the rear axle to allow a lower plane for their central vanes to extend to, than that of the other teams that seem to have missed it in their interpretation.

Nowhere near the effect of the Brawn double diffuser in 09 of course, but a bit of a game changer to keep the car near last year's downforce levels even after the rule changes and needed to bridge the gap. It certainly seems to have worked as all reports have the McLaren rear end planted similarly to the Bulls car in heading the pack.

What are people’s thoughts on the sprint race qualy?
I quite enjoyed it, the drivers went full send.
Plus, how good is it to see the fans in the stands at Silverstone!

Did I hear that the top 3 get championship points as well?

I don't mind the idea, I didn't watch it but have really gone off the F! the last couple of years and haven't seen a race this season.

It was good . Because it was 17 laps only , teams chose different tyres , guys went for it etc. Alonso started 11th by the end of the first lap was 5th, because he started on softs. He faded in the end , but had a dog fight with Vettel for 7th . Perez spun off and came 18th. It have guys a chance to go for glory .
The front sucked though , as usual . The fun is always 4th backwards .

I didn't mind it, Sergio Perez made his race day a hell of a lot more difficult though! Ricciardo seems to be coming to grips with the McLaren, he's neck and neck with Norris this weekend and seems in better spirits. Looking forward to the race tonight, I think Verstappen may have Hamilton covered for race pace, but the start will be crucial and I'm keen to see how tyre degradation factors in tonight given the warm temps.

On a sidenote, up and coming driver Oscar Piastri starts on pole for the first time this season in Formula 2 and has a great chance to take the lead in the championship.

He’s a weapon . Moved up from F3 after winning that , and hasn’t skipped a beat . He will join Ricciardo sooner rather than later I reckon .

I don’t mind the F1 or F2 etc, and have enjoyed them over the many years but what I really want to see now is an E1.

Does anyone know if Piastri has financial backing ? Because outside of having a last name like verstappen or Schumacher , that’s a big tick in the box for getting to F1 with the lower end teams like Williams and haas .

Thanks, I’ll check it out. Given that the EU has basically banned sales of ICE’s in the near future, with other governments to follow, the future is not in F1 etc.
