Farah to SOUTH SYDNEY in 2017..OFFICIAL..

South Sydney Rabbitohs set to offer Wests Tigers hooker Robbie Farah NRL lifeline

South Sydney have emerged as a contender for the services of Robbie Farah in a move that could resurrect his NRL career.

Farah has again been named in reserve grade for Wests Tigers this weekend in the biggest indication yet he has placed his last first-grade game for the club.

Although Farah has some experience playing in the halves, not even a knee injury to Luke Brooks was enough to prompt a recall into a new-look Tigers spine.

It was thought that St George Illawarra appeared Farah's most likely destination should Farah decide not to see out the final year of a lucrative Tigers contract worth about $950,000.

However, the Rabbitohs are poised to become a legitimate option, with the embattled club expected to table a two-year deal.

Farah's brother, Eddie, is Souths' physiotherapist and the club is looking to bolster its stocks in the hooking position. South Sydney signed Damien Cook in the off-season but the former Bulldog has been unable to cement a first-grade spot.

The Rabbitohs are looking to shake up their roster after a disappointing season that has resulted in them losing their past eight games. That streak could well extend to nine unless they are able to defeat premiership heavyweights the Storm in Melbourne on Saturday night.

It is understood the Tigers are prepared to subsidise Farah's wage to the tune of up to $600,000 to get him off their books, which could make him reasonable value for rival clubs.

The Tigers are already planning for life after Farah by identifying Gold Coast's Daniel Mortimer as one of the men to help fill the void should the NSW hooker depart at the end of the season.

However, the joint-venture outfit will only have the funds required to make a play for Mortimer if Farah leaves at the end of this season.

South Sydney are looking to shed a number of their own contracted players, with Tom Burgess at the top of their list.

The prop has struggled to recapture his best form and there are concerns he is taking up too big a chunk of the salary cap. The club hasn't been able to settle on a regular No.9 since Issac Luke was released to join the Warriors.

I really don't care where he ends up so long as it is finalised.

Sad that it ends like this but I am glad that the club have stuck solid behind the coach. It was about time.

The 'boys club' days are finally over.

We can play hard ball to and let him play reserve grade for 12 months and pay him his contract money. The media attention Farah is getting now would disappear after a few weeks in reserve grade next season and he would become just another reserve grader. I am not having a shot at Farah, but who ever picks him up should be paying around 400g at least, lets face it he is the current NSW no9.

I suppose Pascoe is at the point he will do what ever is necessary to restore some harmony in the club and put Farahgate to bed once and for all

If we do that supercoach (make him play reserves) it will be another year of everyone slamming the club and rightly so. This situation is THE CLUBS doing. They deferred payment on his previous contract and then signed him to a lengthy deal for his current. They need to bite the bullet and take what other clubs are offering. They are not in a position of negotiating power here. Rob is worth 450k at least. Id be surprised if rival clubs will offer that. The smart move on their behalf is to offer unders and make the Tigers relent due to their want to get him off the books.

If there are four clubs interested then the club does have some negotiating power given they actually have to agree to the terms of the release. You're right that the club shouldn't go overplaying their hand though because failing to shift him (assuming JT remains coach) would be a disaster.

It sounds like Souths are offering a multi year deal. Given that back-ended contracts are now prohibited they will have to pay the same for him in 2018 as 2017, and he won't be getting topped up by us in 2018\. That should help set a floor of $350-400K because he's not going to want to be playing in 2018 for less than that.

The club is crying poor mouth but we can afford to pay $600,000 for Farah to play against us and, on top of that, pay someone to replace him…Daniel Mortimer.

It's an absolute joke ck .

Daniel Mortimer :unamused: , we still have to pay another Club to get Robbie from us and get this Dud if it eventuates ?
Why not play Liddle as your 1st choice as that's what will most probably happen and have an experienced player in Farah coming of the bench as it appears Ballin might be hanging up the boots due to his injury.

I would rather keep Robbie on limited minutes per game than have another Club benefit in us paying him and in return get Mortimer.

Use the money in other areas before getting Mortimer , he might as well get Lovett to play Hooker off the bench as he makes it up as he goes anyway.

Glad for Robbie. Didn't take long for clubs to show interest once Farah was proactive about moving on.
According to Paul Kent four clubs have expressed interest and it looks like very soon we will be paying most of his salary to play for one of them.

Four clubs? That's good, that means there will be a bit of competition to drive down what we will need to pay.

Surprising news for you gallgher? It would have to be considering that you have been boasting no one has wanted him for the past year. Maybe now youll wake up and look at both sides of the situation?

Well that's some consolation for you

Interesting that Souths have dropped McInnes this week .

Same player JT wanted in a player swap last year very interesting.

For what its worth a former Dragons player I spoke to today believes Hayne & Farah are heading to STGI. They may look to release Dugan to the Bulldogs.

Apparently the NRL have leverage over Hayne because of the Dodgy Third Party Deals at Parra and they want him on the GC.

Well one prediction has been busted already,
And I wouldn't mind betting that the second one is the next to go

Call it what you will.
Many of us have been saying this the whole time. The CEO's of rival clubs aren't dummies. He would have been bid for immediately last year when news first broke and those bids would have been purposefully lowball. It has taken the club a year to understand how business works. It has taken the club a year to open their eyes to the truth that this fiasco was orchastrated by themselves and its a bed they have to lay in. I suspect they even got so desperate that they initiated this current situation in a pathetic attempt to get Robbie to breach the terms of his contract and thus walk away from it.
Some of you see Taylors actions as courageous. Others see them as cowardly. Either way, the club will not be competing on an even playing field in 2017 due to their actions. Additionally, another club out there will pick up a current SOO player for cheap and have a lot of money left over for subsequent purchases.

So we let Cherrington,RF go and possibly get D.mort in return, the guy is to small and slow for my likeing.
Cherrington i would of kept with liddle to cover hooker,Ballin unfortunately seems injury prone at this stage of his career, relying on him may come back to bite us.

Would be funny if the wheels fall off big time during the last five games and the board boot Taylor and introduce a new coach is a Farah fan. Not likely, but a possibility. I guess Robbie will have signed with a new club before that could happen

Good point nelson. Hadn't thought of that

I just hope its sorted either way so we can hold onto ET, i have no doubts Liddle can handle being the number 1 hooker with some pleb ie Mortimer being there to play some minutes for him.

That means we will be running into season 2017 up to $600k worse off then all other clubs when it comes to our cap. What a mess those negotiations 3 years or more ago have turned into.

A legacy of Grant Mayer.

And to think, Potter tried to stop all of that from happening.. Maybe he wasn't so bad after all?

Liddle will be playing first grade next season in tandem with Ballin.
Mortimer's signing would be as a backup to both of them, likely on a 2nd tier deal or a minimal top 25 contract.
It's hardly the outrageous signing that people are making it out to be.

Relax buddy a little light hearted banter. Mate don't take life so seriously you will end up with a ulcer. Mate I have been following the joint venture/Balmain for over 50 years, and over the years I have learnt not to take them or myself to seriously!!! You should do the same

What happened to Damien Cook, i thought he went alright for the Bulldogs. Maybe the Tigers and Souths can come to some arrangement and we take Cook for Farah. Surely he's a better option at no cost than Mortimer.
