I was under impression that the sharks were having financial troubles.
.
can't blame a team for making enquiries or being aggressive in player market.
.

If in a few years we look like this:

8\. Blair
10\. Galloway
11\. Dwyer
12\. Ellis
13\. Heighington

14\. Gibbs
15\. Fulton
16\. Woods/Fifita/Murdoch/Shirnack/
17\. *utility*

even guys like Begovich, Roqica, Davidson

we are sitting very nicely and its unrealistic to thank that we will keep all of them. If we dont sign Blair its either more money to look towards another prop or retain another.

I wouldn't take anything that Rothfield says to seriously
The man is a grade A tool &
if it is true, so be it. You cant keep them all

He may be a tool but trust me, take this seriously.

Very much so, he is full of crap most of the time but being a Sharks supporter, I imagine he would have very close ties within that club and would be very cosy with Flanagan and would definitely have the scoop. Even a broken clock is right twice a day Tigerdre

I merely posted this to be taken on what it is: an expression of interest by the Sharks in one or more of our players and generate a little interest.

It seems that it may not eventuate anyhow as they reckon nowden may not return to the Knights as they would probably renegotiate his salary in keeping with Bennett's methods of spreading the salary cap across a whole side.

In the telegraph today it said that Bennett has the power to pu the cibosh on the deal between Snowden and the Knights as he doenst believe that front rowers are worthy of over 300k a year, thats why he got rid of lazarus, civoneciva, gee and ryles from his previous clubs

I'd hate to see Fifita go and I think he'd be stupid to take an offer from a failure of a club like the sharks.

Is all that $$ worth being apart of such a weak club?
(Imo they're weak)

And as mentioned, they should be spending to strength their back line.
Noobs.

Can't keep them all. Especially if we are, indeed, signing the likes of Blair away from other teams. Roster spots soon dry up.

If you feel sad to lose Fifita- how do Storm fans feel about losing Blair? Broncos fans when Boyd left for the Dragons? Bulldogs fans now that Idris is a Titan?

It's part of the game now- when you have specific roster numbers, and a salary cap, you lose players to other teams willing to pay them that bit more.

So long as the Tigers don't lose the Benji's, Lawrence's, Farah's & Ellis'- they can overcome most other losses.

One down side to producing so many promising youngsters is that you see them against you in a few years time!!

I applaud Bennett and Bellamys philosophy that you dont want to have too much $$$ invested in too many individual forwards …the key is to ensure you have sufficient power & go-forward to create a platform for the 1,6,7 & 9 playmakers plus one or two outstanding backs who can create breaks.Thats how they work it.
Thats why I wouldnt sign Blair on megabucks on top of Ellis(who is worth every cent BTW),but rather have a bunch of largish up & comers like Fifita,Woods & co. supporting the experienced forwards. This strategy means as soon as the market wants to pay top $$$ for individual forwards like Cross/White/ Blair/Jeremy Smith/Costigan etc u have to let them go...& that mite eventualy happen to our young gun forwards too.Gotta keep making more as they're relatively easier to replace than genuine playmakers where the big $$ should be directed.
As for Moltzen, even tho he has a contract for 2012 he's gotta perform this year or he'll be squeezed out by Lui and Miller, like Collis was.

Fair points CG, but its all part of the game where the fans form attachments to players for whatever reason.

I'd be upset if Benji, Heighington or Farah ever left for another club. That said, I'm not one of the vindictive fans who begrudge a player for leaving for better opportunities.

Andrew Said he wants to stay a tiger for life and doesent even think of playing with any other team but our ceo is just waiting to see how he goes and it is going to be a 3 year deal for him and chirs and benjii keep on telling him stay a tiger for life and he likes it when they say that it was on sportsfirst news on feb but i cant find it soz guys 😀

Im expectin the tigers to tap a couple of our players on the shoulder, to move on at the end of the yr. Doing this would help the club fifita/woods and BMM at the club… props are hard to produce and when you have some goodins you shouldnt let them go...

I know the ben pomeroy is off contract at seasons end with the sharks. Dont think he is keen to stay but guess with the right offer would stay. Have feeling he was on around $200000 a yr. Not huge money but with collis sitting on the sideline hard to see the sharks chasing to hard. So if snowdon and pomeroy goes there's a few dollars to throw around.

Many will disagree, but personally I'd prefer if this was Payts' last season, if there is a risk of losing one of our young props. On the other hand, our recent retention has been superb.

The fact that we have such a young forward pack in the making strengthens the need for Payten to remain and take the guys under his wing. His experience will be invaluable to them.

Obviously I'd prefer to keep them all, and Sheens has always been to have old heads around. Fortunately, Gibbs has been stepping up as a forward leader for when Payten has to go, something I never would have predicted years ago.

I think we will see Payten and Fifita leave at the end of the year. With woods coming through Fifita isn't even guaranteed a bench spot let alone a starting spot - so Money really isnt the point so much as it is a starting spot and Blair is to replace Payten leaving us with this still awesome pack next year

Heighno
Ellis
Blair
Galloway
Farah
Gibbs

Woods
Fulton
Dwyer

With BMM, Roquia, Begovih, Groat and the Schirnacks still in the squad I think we would be ok

I'd also love to see this being Payten's last year.
He hasn't been impressive this year.
However I'd love to see Fifita be a tiger for life.

8\. Galloway
10\. Fifita
11\. Ellis
12\. Heinington
13\. Gibbs

14\. Dwyer
15\. Woods
16\. Murdoch-Masila
17\. Shirnack

… I wish.

Demps

Im with you. Max payten has 1 more year in him. He is playing on old legs. I love the guy but im not sentimental about old players. The biggest challenge for any team is renewal. By the end of the year the young guys will be read. Payts should chase a nice nest egg in the UK.
