Filo Basketball drama & Byron's acid induced hallucination thread

Pathetic all round.

Our bloke puts old mate on the deck and then walks away, and then our blokes spend their time running away from Philippinos trying to coward punch and throw chairs.

Can see why Maker was running away though, he'd snap in half if you punched him.

Embarassing eh?

She should have used it a lot more. LOL

I think people are quick to blame the Boomers. Some of them went troppo but to be fair they were provoked. Here's how it looked to me:

Filipino guy just coldly forearms a Boomer out of nowhere. Some Australian guy retaliates. Cue mayhem. Maker performs some I'll advised Eric Cantona kung fu although he might make the case he was trying to help out a teammate who was being surrounded. Sobey? was then set upon by multiple persons held on the ground and basically assaulted. I saw some teammates rush to help him which seemed reasonable. Filipino bench cleared and went nuts. Boomers bench stood to get involved but were stopped by some Aus officials.

I'd put the blame 85% them 15% us. The Boomer who elbowed the Filipino and Maker have cases to answer. I'd say the others were doing their best to not be hit. The poor bastard getting beaten on the floor was also ejected and he still had the chair attached to him when he a was finally free.

All started with a punch and knee to the balls by the Filo bloke.

At one point it even looked like one of the officials with a broom was about to join in?

Agent details 'appalling' attack on Boomers star Chris Goulding in wild brawl
By Ben Glover

The Boomers star who was isolated and attacked by as many as 12 Philippines players and officials is "battered and bruised" but "OK", according to his agent. Shooting guard Chris Goulding was at the centre of the shocking and wild brawl that marred the Boomers' overnight win, copping the hard foul that first ignited it.

Goulding was still on the floor when fists started flying after his Boomers teammate Daniel Kickert retaliated by elbowing Goulding's man in the head. Goulding didn't get back to his feet for long, as players and officials came flying in from all directions, surrounding him and dropping him to the floor behind the court before stomping, punching and kicking him. The frightening footage lays the attack bare, with Goulding at times under so many bodies he can barely be seen.

Boomers legend Luc Longley, who is on the team's coaching staff, eventually came to Goulding's aid with Basketball Australia CEO Anthony Moore describing his assistance as like "clearing a maul". It was a distressing incident for all the players, with Goulding's agent Daniel Moldovan confirming on SEN his player was "shocked and appalled" but not seriously hurt.

“He is (OK),” Moldovan said. “He’s a little bit bruised and battered, but he is OK. He’s a tough one. He’s shocked and appalled, as we all are, at what took place. “That was just Chris – alone, underneath 12 guys stomping him, punching him, kicking him, the American on the team was holding his leg down so he couldn’t get up. Unacceptable."

Moore said he had not spoken to any of the Boomers players but had been told that Goulding was particularly rattled."They're shaken up. All the players are shaken up, and Chris in particular," Moore said."There's vision of Luc Longley, our NBA legend, taking up a position of an Australian Wallaby, clearing a maul to get a significant number of players off him."That's what we were dealing with, so yes, he's certainly shaken up."

Moldovan added that he expected serious action to be taken by FIBA. “What took place from those that flew off the bench out of sight and out of mind for those involved in the fracas, the team officials, managers, equipment guys, waterboys, whoever they were – going in in the fashion that they did, that’s where I take serious offence to what took place and that’s where I want to see FIBA come down with a very, very heavy hand,” Moldovan said.

Heavy suspensions are expected to be handed out to a string of players and officials after FIBA opened an investigation into the incident.

FIBA tweeted that the decisions from its disciplinary proceedings would be communicated in coming days.

Nine Philippines were ejected from the game along with Australians Goulding, Kickert, Nathan Sobey and Thon Maker. The Philippines were left with only three eligible players but the match continued until two of their players deliberately fouled out to end the contest. Scheduled post-match press conferences for both teams were cancelled in the aftermath of the incident.

Inside word is the Aussies were braggart and big mouth before the game during the rehearsal and removed sponsors stickers off the floor. Who knows what the rules? No excuse for what occurred of course.

Basketball is their national sport so expect fireworks - like SOO to us.

Yes they did remove stickers from the free throw area… They claimed they were slippery.. I saw the video of it. It's not like it's our stadium, we're visitors and they arrogantly went in and removed them off the floor.
There's claims from Filipino coach there was elbows from the Aussies during the warm up... (I'm not up on basketball so I assume warm ups are like opposed sessions)
Golding and his man imo are one on one and facing each other and the Filipino does shove him to the floor after passing but I think that occurs often in basketball= fair game... It was kickerts elbow after that which started it all

Filipino bench emptied rather quickly, seems like they were gagging for a fight.

I can't blame the Boomer guy, you expect your team-mates to stand up for you after a cheap shot, I'd hope for the same from my team-mates, Tigers players etc.

But like I said what do you do when the Filipino bench empties and all these nuffies in blue shirts come charging in with forearms, chairs etc. Then lunatics from the crowd.

Rather pointless from the Filipinos when you've scored half the points of your opposition, bit of a non-contest.

Remind me to stand next to Thon Maker in a brawl - flying karate kicks with 10-feet black legs, cleared out a wide space around himself like a Guy spinning roundhouse (for the Final Fight retro fans out there).

Half my best friends are Filipino and that comment doesn't sit right with me.

Only about a day earlier a Filipino mayor (of Batangas) was gunned down whilst saluting the flag. He was famous for parading and shaming criminals down the main street. Remarkably Duterte had advised his vice mayor to take him out illegally if necessary.

Racist comments aren't tolerated here. I'm sure we've probably got Filo fans who lurk these forums too, fair to say they probably won't appreciate seeing that sort of garbage here.
