First Grade Live Game Thread.

Just overall poor execution and a poor game plan this evening I think.

Risking an underdone Ellis was probably a poor move but retrospect is a wonderful thing in that regard.

Farah had a distinct lack of involvement and I think he has been the big loser in the "give Lui more responsibility" push that Sheens seems to have been on. He really lacked any option at the play the ball and was really one dimensional.

Our lack of real ball runners was a big issue. We looked to be going through the motions of a pre set game plan even when the option wasn't there to take. We were very shallow in the forwards and we seem to have moved from Heighno working back to the ruck to every one of our forwards following this routine and tonight was not the night for it.

The use of the interchange bench was terrible from my POV. Woods proved his worth against the Roosters in a game situation but still we had the same old story of a 3 man prop rotation for 60 odd minutes. Fifita was under utilised and we missed Gibbs in a very big way. Someone to take those ugly hitups and work the ruck in defence.

Goal kicking was interesting but we will see how that plays out.

Finally Moltzen is an absolute waste on the bench. To pull off your fullback in the game that it was and the fact that McKinnon was doing well was not a good move. Let the guy get some time and confidence in State Cup if he isn't a starter. I thought Utai offered more than any back bar Lawrence tonight

All of this said it is round 1 and next week we face a similar side to the Dogs in the Warriors.

Tolman was epic tonight for the Dogs though

Give it a rest, read my opening line guys, dogs played well, tigers below par. And yes refs didn't help. You lot need to learn how to get over it.

At least Morris popped his PCL… Justice is served.

Utai was hardly the start of our problems, he saved a try and put hard metres back infield. Our long kicking game was absolutely rotten, every kick just about found Barba's chest.

Benji, lift your head son! It isn't going to go away until its dealt with. Worry about footy until then!

BB, Moltzen is a terrible fullback. Should not have been out there unless Lui failed to fire.

We played terribly and the Dogs were good, and they only took it at the death, poor ball security stopped them from totally belting us. Having said that, we will bounce back.

Bloody Sheens;

Plays injured players

Brings Moltzen on with ten minutes to go

Gives Fifita limited game time

YOU ARE WRONG SHEENS

As per usual you blame sheens when we lose good to see you havent woken up over the off season :blah :blah

Whilst the dogs have played well and the tigs have been well below their best, the refs have been quite biased IMHO. Not calling forward passes, not blowing a penalty for ruck infelicities committed by the dogs, what seemed like a bloody big 10mtrs when tigs are defending. Def not our night. Hopefully sheens gets stuck up them during the week.
And here's hoping to god we don't get bloody suttor again

give it up JEZZ … we just let a pretty average side beat us easily ......we were jogging the ball up ......

what game do some people watch ??????????

Agree..No excuses we were just really ordinary tonight.. Not one forward went forward.. we were SOFT!!!

well just crap did not look interested stop the hype crap about winning the comp were no better than souths the refs were not the reason not the reason tonight mr sheens and the players owe us an apology

Put the knives away fellas….we were very ordinary but its round 1.

Remember that last year at stages it was embarrasing watching these blokes play yet in the end they should have made the GF.

Definitly not a good start but at least we are under way. We are carrying injuries to our forwards who are mostly irreplaceable.

6, 7, 9 all poor, didn't build any pressure, 5th tackle options rubbish. Just gave the ball back without a whimper. Game was there to be won easily.

It's disappointing to lose like that first up, no doubt, especially after such a positive build up in the camp and big wraps in the media. Perhaps that was part of the problem tonight - we just don't do being big favourites very well, for some reason. However, there's a long, long season ahead and I'm sure we will be well and truly in the mix come finals time, when it matters most. I would still like to see Brown back as fullback, though, before too long.

Lui had an average game as did Benji. Farah wasn't too flash hot either. They were all rusty and they know it. Hopefully this is a good wake up call for them all and they'll be on song v the Wazzas. Pressure game. This early on. I feel Moltzen might be getting an early crack at 7 if Lui doesn't deliver the good next weekend.

Yup Disappointed for sure especially to front up to the doggie supporters that gave me heaps before the match. Writing was on the wall though- Media Hype , Benji's mind in the right zone since the incident and fox sports panel all tipping us.
Sets up for a good come back next week, so I will not run the warm bath or get the razor blades out just yet. 😢

Didn't get to watch much of the game sadly. From what I could see in a short time:

1\. Benji seemed confused all the time.
2\. No talks were going around. Can't believe I'm saying this but I think I missed Beau's enthusiasm.
3\. I thought Utai was pretty good. One of the rare men on today who actually looked interested. He popped up everywhere although he may need to work on his positioning.
4\. MOLTZEN!!! I have said this 10x and I'mma say it again. PUT HIM IN STATE CUP. He is too important to be playing 7 minutes of competitive football each week…
5\. Tackling was good. Couldn't see many missed tackles TBH but there were too many holes open and seriously dogs could've driven a truck through it. Although, the tackling was good and there were no arm grabs which is a good thing I guess.

As mentioned by other people, performance needs to be improved but no need to panic. Dogs didn't play that good a game but not taking anything away from them, it was an ordinary performance by Tigers.

last years over champ still a bad start

The point is why abuse the players after 1 game?

They will get their act together and thats what matters the most.

Sure it was a poor start but I'm not at all worried.

Yes we weren't good but from what i saw the Dogs played pretty well tonight. Fair play to them. We can improve. I missed Robbie Farah tonight. The team seemed rattled and rusty. But we'll get better.

And Frank - ten minutes of great football a year -Pritchard played all of them against us. Again. Grrr.
