RIP mountain dog

Oath.

One of the nicest guys in the game.

sorry to hear, insanely knowledgeable, seemed like a nice guy.

Would love to know the cause, whether it had anything to do with is previous conditions.
i know he used to smash the steroids back in the day (and still, but not to the extent), so, may have had a part. regardless, 49 is way to young to pass away...

He was one of the real guys who spoke about steroids openly.

By all reports both his parents died young from clotting which he had issues with, as well as he had a colon problem...

His content was great and he seemed like a great guy. Sad stuff.

A lot of these steroid using body builders don't live too long... rare to see them make it 60+

The steroids speed up your genetic process so makes sense it lessens your life span.

Sad either way, mountain dog was a good guy.

Good advice for any one starting out or wanting to simplify.

I have been making changes lately and Im loving it.

Ive had a lifetime of sport and training but like many, over the last 10years or so let it slide. Actually 10 years ago I had a big life changing incident and I got motivated and lost 20kg and got fit, but then got happy and put13 back on. Over the last 10 years I have developed a weird arthritis which has badly impacted my joints with pain and stiffness and so training has been hard and the pain and stiffness is demotivating.

Few months ago I did something counter intuitive for an unfit middle aged man with bad joints, I started training BJJ. Joined the best gym in Sydney and instantly loved it, then after only 3 classes COVID hit.

Did nothing for a long time but the last month Ive been training on mats at home with just bodyweight stuff and BJJ drills. Want to be in best shape I can be for when the doors open back up.

Outstanding man.

BJJ is an art... read BJ Penn described it the other day as the martial art designed to make the smaller man be able to win against a bigger opponent.

I'm a life long martial arts fan.
Really appreciate a good submission finish in a fight (sport) these days.

Keep up the good work.

Mate I have fallen in love with it and totally addicted. It is such an intelligent art, total mental game.

I boxed as a young man and all my kids did karate or TKD but for me BJJ is next level when it comes to mental planning, process etc.

Unbelievably lucky to find the Professor I did. He trained under Helios and Royler Gracie in Rio and actually taught in their school. He trained with Rickson. Unbelievable lineage.

No doubt.
Gracies are the GOATs and have shared their knowledge.
Schools everywhere opening up, trained by the Gracies.

I enjoyed watching Kron Gracie make his way into the UFC, impressive debut but not the best follow up and I read he's focusing on his own gyms now and training people.

Kron has been teaching since he was 15 in Ricksons academy and when Rickson left America to go back to Brazil after Rocksons death, Kron had to take over the school at 18.

I have a lot of respect for Kron. It must be incredibly hard to be brought up in the shadow of the Gracie name but when your dad is the actual GOAT its a hell of a weight to carry. He has done really well. I know the world will judge him based on UFC but for a fighter like Kron UFC is not really the best yard stick. Kron won the "world championships" at the Abu Dhabi ADCC in 2013 (I think) in one of the best BJJ fights of all time against Gary Tonon.

Rickson Gracie was the BJJ GOAT and probably the best fighter of all time but for all the hype regarding UFC, the UFC would have dulled his star. The UFC rules like weight divisions, 3/5 monute rounds etc wouldnt suit Rickson or any of the Gracies who proved their superiority in "vale tudo" events particularly in Japan. If you converted UFC to 20 minute rounds like in vale tudo BJJ fighters would always win.

Im sure you are aware the UFC grew out of the "Gracie Challenges".

Kron has been training with the Diaz bros and yeah, his debut was good.
Then his fight with Cub Swanson, not so good.

Was like he was trying to keep it standing and just strike.
Super likeable guy and really well spoken.
Just sounds like a Cali surfer.

I like him.
