Seriously if you were going to merge us with anyone it would be the Dogs as they basically are in between our Inner city territory and South West Territory. Of course a Souths Easts combo would make the most sense but that will never happen while the NRL are in bed with them

I said the same thing in the other thread. And honestly if we really did have to merge for the good of the game, I'd support it, even if that meant merging with the Bulldogs, literally my least-favoured team in the competition.

But I'd only support a merger if all the other clubs had to merge as well, to get the 9 Sydney teams down to a better number, which is probably 5: South-East Sydney Roostertohs, North Sydney and Central Coast Beagles, Inner West Tiger Dogs, Southern Sydney Shagons and the Western Sydney Peels.

Even then, that's 1M potential people per side (total Sydney population divided by 5, rather than local population of each district), which is 5.5x the population of Townsville, 2.5x the population of Canberra, 3x the population of Newcastle, 60% the population of Auckland and 50% the population of Perth.

So the argument about a crowded market sort of falls flat when you consider expansion locations and total population, taking into account just how massive Sydney is and how much it dwarfs other cities. Even, ideally, you'd want a second Melbourne team as rapidly as any other location, if ignorant of the knowledge that they barely support the first Melbourne team as it is.

I'd be hard pressed to follow a team if we merged again. I don't see how we can merge again and keep a representation of both our founding parents, to me that is nonnegotiable.

Channel Nein should merge with the ABC to appease the bogans and yet to be invented minority groups. Then relocate Fellatio Fittler to Uranus and Jockstrap Johns to Mars.

I agree with this....We've done it once and I won't do it again.....makes me question why I follow league.....I dislike more about it than I love.....I love my Tigers, and I love an upset.....but the more teams I watch with players I can't stand (Mitchell, Lane, Moses, JWH, Cleary x2 etc), and the more the game gets over officiated, makes me wonder.....

Yep, to me we have to have variations of Wests and Tigers in our name. There is no room there for us to give up anything in our name to be able to merge moving forward.

Another merger would see the end for me, if we get ourselves into the position where we have to merge then we just don't beling in the comp.

I still think the sharks will die

It's very noticeable that Fittler did not make any mention of Roosters merging. I am sick of overpaid NRL has-beens like Fittler and Andrew Johns thinking that they are wise Gods of the NRL. What right have they to make these comments?

Mate no one ever mentions them, or Souths or Parramatta or Penrith or even Canterbury who I think are in a more vulnerable position and should probably be merged. They always only focus on the same teams to make the same sacrifices that they’ve already made before. Their agenda is plain for all to see.

Nice of Freddy to not mention the Roosters. Full of stars, two comps un a row and still barely pull a crowd. They will die post Politis.

And they are under the cap :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:

Fittler's comments are unhelpful especially as he is employed to be the NSW Coach. He has an audience because of his position and should have been instructed to refrain from speculating on such matters.

As a commentator and former player he can offer comment.

If we merge again, like a lot of supporters on here.

I would give the NRL away totally.

The rorting, the bias by referees and the bunker, the inconsistency of the MRC and Tribunal etc.etc.
is all bad enough and driving people away - merging again would be the last straw.

Mr. V'Landys you need to stop all this and idiots commenting on merges as well, it is very unsettling and very unhelpful.

As much right as you and me

What's your thoughts on this?

We've done our bit 20 years ago... Tho I think we need to settle on one ground to consolidate our identity... Easier said than done though

I actually think playing at 2 or 3 grounds is to our advantage on this issue. If the NRL seriously want to reduce Sydney teams, who is more valuable?
a) a team that represents an entire stretch of territory from Balmain to Picton, one end of western Sydney to the other, that can also pull big crowds in Homebush or Parramatta
b) Just another rootless team playing in Parramatta, when we already have a Parramatta team.

Thanks, I was expecting a backlash haha. I do think playing games in Campbelltown, Leichhardt and with bigger matches at a bigger stadium pays respect to our history (histories) while cementing our place as a broadly-supported team.

I wish Fittler and the rest of the media idiots would stop referring to us as "a/the joint venture". Suggests we are still two clubs operating as one. We are ONE club and have been so for 20 years.

One home ground would cement that. Three home grounds, or 4 this year, just remind everyone we a jv.

Not sure what has happened to Freddie of late, but he has gone from being a real likeable bloke, to a bloke with a real axe to grind against our club. In the past he always had a positive slant with his commentary with all teams, now he is really negative and especially when commentating our games.

Liked him a lot more when he portrayed the likeable dumb x footballer to the angry chippy person now
