FITZHENRY YOUR THOUGHTS

@Tigerpete said:
That shows a complete lack of class to boo your own player. To single out one player in a team is unfair and to be honest, you can't really call yourself a fan if you're going to do that. Don't give me any "i'm just passionate, i want the best for my team", that's a load of crap. FACT: a fan does not turn on his own.

Like some have said, those who booed ought to have a real good look at themselves.

actually fans do turn on their own.
supporters don't.
buying a season ticket doesn't make you a supporter,just a consumer.
it is your actions toward the team that make you a supporter.

maybe say a prayer for him instead.
would make great television viewing.

My opinion of fitzy has changed just because of last night

When we first signed him, i was about as impressed as everyone else on this forum. But when gareth scored the match winner last night the first person ther was fitzy and the pure elation on his face was just priceless. Daniel Fitzhenry bleeds orange and black and thats everything I could ever ask from a tiger player. He will give everything he has this year and if sheens believes he can do it, then I will be cheering, even if the boos drown me out.

actually fitzhenry bleeds black and white - he came from Wests magpies and not balmain at one point i think before Wests Tigers - but now be bleeds, black, white and gold - the official colours of the Wests Tigers

Not quite.

He debuted for Wests Tigers in 02….he's played reserves for the magpies at times, balmain too I think.
Possibly played jnr reps for wests, didnt play first grade

I take my dear old mums rule at the game: "If you cant say something nice, dont say anything at all"

I reserve my anger for the refs and opposition

Fitzy didnt actually get boood when running out, it was when they were reading out the team sheet. I guess there is a contingant of fans out there who are not happy to see fitzy back at the club, and i guess there is also alot of fans out there who are not happy with the coach. I remember late last year there was alot of boooing for Mr Sheens.

As for the people doing this i dont have a problem with this nor does it make them any less of a fan, they are just showing what they feel about the issue. I pose the question why was he brought back to the club when we have the tank and now loti to secure the wings? Utility player? I dont really see him as a quality utility player or impact player off the bench. Ild say someone like fulton has more utility value then fitzy? I cannot see any reason we had to spend on him when we could of shown a bit more faith in bleeding some young players. I cant say fitzy would be there as a mentor either?

it all goes back to that dragons game in 05 he dropped everything that came at him kicked the ball making a break on the 3rd tackle etc he has never been forgiven since that game, and then in the semis that year against the dragons he dropped the first bomb that came to him he was our heart attack that Saturday night in 05

So assuming you were Sheensy and determined to put a back on the bench, who would you pick in front of Fitzy and why? I want Tuamata in the role but doesn't seem likely soon. I would pick Fitzy ahead of Daniella and Brown. I don't follow Pritchard so cant comment. So who and why?

What's the point of having him on the bench to come on for 5 mins at the end of the game.
And don't give me this utility garbage, he can rove in at hooker…well that's pointless because we have one of the best hookers in the game.
He can play wing adequately, why would you replace a winger during the game?
I think our team would be versatile enough to cover injuries in the other positions.

I hate it when people call out other supporters on what makes a true fan.
I saw a tigers fan beat the crap out of another tigers fan on Monday night. He didn't boo Fitzy though when his named was called out so he must be a better fan than me.

Fitzy was a Bunnies junior from memory. He then went and played football in France. He got hit by a car whilst riding his bicycle and feared his career was over. He came back to Australia and was picked up by Wests. I could be wrong but it is my understanding he was a junior of our club.

Gee I don't know, maybe if one our wingers say severely injured their ankle???? In any case what type of bench are you proposing? It's all very good to play 4 forwards off the bench if nobody gets hurt but if a back goes down who do you propose plays in the backline? Can say Liam Fulton really cover if Moltzen had to come off early game? If any backline member gets injured Fitzy can cover that either directly or by taking the place of someone else moved (say Moltzen moving to half if Lui came off). Sure the flip side is one of your subs may not get much time but that's the call Sheens needs to make.

Brown may honestly be the best bench utility option we have. Big enough to play a Chris Bailey style back rower and can play pretty much anywhere but the halves. If a half gets injured than Moltzen to the halves and Brown to the back.

The 4th benchie is a real hedge your bets gamble in the long run

Pritchard in the past has played in the backs, halves and from memory moved into backrow at time last season.

So you pick a bench spot based on the probability a winger breaks their ankle. That might happen once a year (touch wood it doesn't) so it impedes the other 23 games of the year.

I am satisfied with Moors, Flanagan and Cayless for my bench.
I would rather give the coveted number 17 to blood youth if it's only going to be used 10 minutes here and there.
For example, someone like Taumata (who I thought would be on the bench from the get go) or even Lazarus to expose them to the big time.
I don't really understand what Fitzy offers. "Utility" is a myth and passion for the club doesn't translate into skill.

I don't doubt the value of having experience at training and around juniors but not in the first 17.

I think Sheensie has got it right with the BRET halves.

Both need to play 80 mins and do so for a good period to get their skills/confidence/fitness up.

Giving them 15 mins in the top grade per week could really have an adverse affect on their games IMO.

But…......in about a month if their form continues I would expect at least one of them to be close to a reserve spot.

When players play a class above State Cup level consistently, you need to throw them in the deep end of the top grade instantly to see if they can carry that form through at the next level whilst they are running hot. Their consistency is not what should be questioned as they have already proven that at that level. What are you going to wait for? Until injury strikes one of them down? Their form drops off? 'Til another club poaches them?
And then…if they are unfortunate enough due to whatever circumstances not be able to take the opportunity when given this chance, then they need to be monitored to see if they take what they have learnt in their short stint at the top level back to State Cup level.
Lazarus and Taumata have BOTH already done this.

My thoughts - he's a Tigers player so I support him all the way.

Why we need to bag our own so much always frustrates me. why not a hundred threads about what a tosser Watmough is, or a whinger Jamie Lyon is etc etc?

Agree with you on this CT. Good post.

I thought it was a joke post, hard to tell sometimes.

Im all for promoting blokes that have proven themselves, but Lazarus has played one game in two years, and Taumata has played one game.

I fail to see how either has competed consistently over a matter of time for us.

No I'm saying it does happen (and more than once a year - I remember Hanbury getting a lot of game time as a replacement some games) and as a coach Sheens needs to decide whether its worth risking playing 70 minutes with a backrower to play 4 forwards on the bench.

Taumata certainly hasn't shown he warrants a top grade spot and Lazarus has played one competition game in the last 3 seasons. Utility a myth? Look I'm no fan of Fitzy (I'd describe myself as neutral) but the fact is the guy has played fullback, centre, wing, 5/8 and hooker at top grade level. If you can't see the benefits of having someone like that on the bench well we're wasting our time discussing this. Again I'm not saying you HAVE to put someone like that on the bench but it is a legitimate option.

He was playing 2nd receiver as a backrower on Monday night. You can add that on his repetoire..
