And just to think…if WT had Fitzhenry on the bench in that crucial game against Parramatta last year...WT would likely have been playing finals footy last season..

And don't give me this utility garbage, he can rove in at hooker…well that's pointless because we have one of the best hookers in the game.
He can play wing adequately, why would you replace a winger during the game?
I think our team would be versatile enough to cover injuries in the other positions.
I hate it when people call out other supporters on what makes a true fan.
I saw a tigers fan beat the crap out of another tigers fan on Monday night. He didn't boo Fitzy though when his named was called out so he must be a better fan than me.

Why we need to bag our own so much always frustrates me. why not a hundred threads about what a tosser Watmough is, or a whinger Jamie Lyon is etc etc?

I agree.
Have any of the people on this forum, who are disgruntled with Fitzy being at wests-tigers actually ever contacted the club, and told management, or the coaching staff.
Or have they ever approached Fitzy himself and spoken to him one on one.

Of course not. That would require some form of courage, which these people clearly lack.

It's all very good to play 4 forwards off the bench if nobody gets hurt but if a back goes down who do you propose plays in the backline? Can say Liam Fulton really cover if Moltzen had to come off early game? If any backline member gets injured Fitzy can cover that either directly or by taking the place of someone else moved (say Moltzen moving to half if Lui came off). Sure the flip side is one of your subs may not get much time but that's the call Sheens needs to make.
So you pick a bench spot based on the probability a winger breaks their ankle. That might happen once a year (touch wood it doesn't) so it impedes the other 23 games of the year.
I am satisfied with Moors, Flanagan and Cayless for my bench.
I would rather give the coveted number 17 to blood youth if it's only going to be used 10 minutes here and there.
For example, someone like Taumata (who I thought would be on the bench from the get go) or even Lazarus to expose them to the big time.
I don't really understand what Fitzy offers. "Utility" is a myth and passion for the club doesn't translate into skill.
I don't doubt the value of having experience at training and around juniors but not in the first 17.
No I'm saying it does happen (and more than once a year - I remember Hanbury getting a lot of game time as a replacement some games) and as a coach Sheens needs to decide whether its worth risking playing 70 minutes with a backrower to play 4 forwards on the bench.
Taumata certainly hasn't shown he warrants a top grade spot and Lazarus has played one competition game in the last 3 seasons. Utility a myth? Look I'm no fan of Fitzy (I'd describe myself as neutral) but the fact is the guy has played fullback, centre, wing, 5/8 and hooker at top grade level. If you can't see the benefits of having someone like that on the bench well we're wasting our time discussing this. Again I'm not saying you HAVE to put someone like that on the bench but it is a legitimate option.
@Golden said:why would you replace a winger you ask?? well the one time we didnt have a winger on the bench both our wingers went down with injury leading 8-0 up

Yeah brilliant, have a winger for the one off shot both our wingers go down..Might has well have a couple of extra halves in case they go down also.
Like I said, what happens once a season doesn't happen in 23 other games.
And Fitzy is not a utility. I don't care if he HAS played every position, he isn't up to scratch in any of them bar winger. In which refer to point 1 about having a replacement winger on the bench.
And to further prove my point, look at the other 15 teams picked this weekend. How many of them have a player that has played the majority of their career on the wing on their bench….
Exactly...

So then we can also say if TNT didn't get injured or if we won all the close games…

Well that's your opinion isn't it? That he isn't up to scratch in anything else bar winger. It's not like he just filled in, he has been picked for a number of games in positions other than wing. It's no different than say picking Gerard Beale or Wade McKinnon for a bench spot.

That is my opinion too,Fitzy might have played a lot of positions, but wing was the only one that was anywhere near NRL standard,so that argument of yours is flawed.
There are a quite a few players in the NRL who play a heap of positions, doesn't make them a utility if they can only play one well. 😢
@Yossarian said:But we're talking about picking someone on a bench who can adequately fill in for a number of positions. Once again, it's your opinion he can only play wing to an NRL standard, not a fact so It's not a flawed argument at all. It's a perfectly valid argument to suggest someone is capable of coming on and playing a range of positions to a fair degree. But it's all about how you rate their ability to do so - I think he's of a reasonable enough standard to play these positions, you don't.
You having a different opinion on this doesn't invalidate the argument at all.

I'd love to know who else besides yourself, Tim Sheens and CT thinks that Fitzhenry is capable of playing the following positions to a fair degree:
Fullback
Five-eighth
Halfback
Hooker
Lock
Fitzhenry is not a utility. This is not an opinion, it's a fact.
@hybrid_tiger said:I couldn't give a s**t that he was apparently a "utility" in England. One glimpse of him at hooker in the Foundation Cup throwing passes above peoples heads or at their bootlaces was enough to tell me he's not hooker.
**He played five-eighth years ago when we were utter garbage. Hardly makes him a utility.** He's an average winger, not a utility.
@hybrid_tiger said:One game. And that just sums up Sheens' ridiculous selection policy anyway, so hardly a point in your trolling argument.
