Five Wests Tigers players make Australian squad

Congrats to Robbie and Chris for making the final cut of the Australian squad, hopefully they will both get a run at some stage through the series.

surely this will be the springboard for lawrence to get a blues jersey next year .

how the selectors picked beau scott there this year still remains a mystery

Somehow I think Tate will get the start at centre ahead of Lawrence at this stage. He is a proven veteran of 19 Tests and 15 Origins.

Brent Tait is a Right Centre…

I'm expecting competition between Boyd, Tonga or Chris for that Left Centre Spot. Boyd will be hard to leave out, and apparently Tonga had a great game against the Kumuls...

Agreed Watto.

I was just saying that Tate is a more likely starter than Lawrence at this stage in response to hadds' team (not a direct swap - as hadds named two left centres).

I would say Tonga and Tate are the likely starters - with Boyd pushing for Morris or Hayne's wing spots!

Rowdy is probably fourth cab off the rank in regards to centre spots.

Boyd could also replace Gidley as the 17th man - but Carney & Farah have claims for that spot also!

Uate isn't eligible until 2011 & is therefore not in the squad.

I think Galloway was a bit stiff given his finals form. Matt Scott has to be considered to be lucky - and Dean Young is redundant!

He actually got clearance yesterday its on the Knights site. (Uate)

Dean Young will get token game against PNG… I hate to say Farah will probably be the same.

Galloway a bit unlucky, but Scott did the job in origin and unfortunately that counts. The good news is Galloway came close and with that, if he does the right things should be up there in SOO.

scott also took the cowboys to a wooden spoon…...

yeah… He missed all there tackles, He didnt bother doing any hit-ups... And that lazy loser Gallen, he is just as bad. How could they ever make the Australian Team over the injury prone, not tested at rep level Keith Galloway.

If your NSW Frontrowers cant make the team over the Queenslanders, what hope did you think Keith was gona have at the selection table???

Scott deserves his spot!

Scott deserves his spot!

Because Daley and co picked "built for origin" players instead of players that were in form and deserved a run.

I've alway been of the opinion that origin should be a springboard for internationals.

Matty Scott was awesome during this years series, he had it all over his NSW counterparts. It is not unfortunate IMO that this is taken into account Hadds, he deserves his spot, I'm with Watto.

Considering that Origin in NSW has been dominated by poor selections & a stupid "Origin-player rather than best player" attitude - Origin can no longer be the only legitimate springboard for Test selection (especially give the next Test match is months after Origin)!

Players like Ennis, Creagh, Beau Scott, Idris, King, Snowden, Pearce etc are simply not Test standard (yet in some cases - ever in others)!

This is nothing new - in 1989 the alleged master-coach Jack Gibson ommitted Blocker & Sirro from his NSW team that lost 3-nil (Sirro got one game)! Both were subsequently picked by Fulton for the three Tests against NZ and won a man-of-the-match award each! Sirro first played for Australian in 1986 - three years before his Origin debut - he also played the one Test in 1988 despite being overlooked for Origin!

History proves that performance in finals is a significant factor in players making the end of year tour (see Villa for example) - having said that Galloway was close to being the best prop in the finals. The fact that the moronic NSW selectors ignored him does not mean the Test selectors should!

Scott is thoroughly deserving - but I maintain he was a tad lucky to get his Australian debut given his team's poor form all season and the claims of others! A bloke like Costigan who excelled in both Origin & the finals (at prop) is desperately unlucky!

does that mean the test side isnt picked on current form

I am talking about the pigs mate….they are after all the ones that do all the work. Dean Young does not deserve his spot...AT ALL.
Not saying that it shouldnt be picked on current form but I believe the forwards have to go through origin to prepare themselves for the battle as generally speaking, the forwards are the strongest part of both the Kiwi and English teams.

Of course it is not. Wise up. Remember 2005? Weststigers win the comp and how many did they get in the test side that year? Nil.

Selectors have their favourites. Daley, Fulton and company have presided over the last 5 origin losses. Fulton is still there and so would Daley be still there, only he stepped down.

So Lote in for Hayne ??

Apparently so, according to Yahoo Sport. If true, congrats Lote!

2005 was an aberration! There are far more examples of players making the Australian squad as debutants and smokies after a quality finals series. The selectors thought we were a flash in the pan in 2005 and chose a squad of incumbents - but most years there is a Dean Young type selection. Nate Myles was another this year who benefitted more from finals form than Origin - as he has missed Test selection previously despite his Origin achievements!

GF players to make the Australian squad for the first time include:

2002 Villasanti - Fitzgibbon & Wing

2003 Waterhouse & Lewis + Ricketson - Hegarty - Crocker & Minichello

2004 Tonga - O'Meley & Ryan

2005 O'Donnell & Prince

2006 Kaufusi - Hodges - Inglis & Thaiday

2007 Hoffman - Johnson - Cronk - B. Stewart & Folau

2008 G. Stewart - Watmough - Williams

2009 White

Out of the 27 Australian debutants from Grand Final teams over the past 8 years that I have listed above - 11 had NOT played Origin previously! That is a creditable 40%!!!

All of those 11 except Villa went on to play Origin - with Kaufusi playing just one game!

That includes Lewis who while selected for Australia in 2003 - did not actually play a Test until 2009!

Other GF players like Luke Rooney & Joel Clinton got an Aussie jersey the following year (Rooney with a NSW jumper & Clinton without)!

It merely proves that Origin is not the be-all-and-end-all when it comes to Australian selection! Performance in the other big games counts for alot!

Matt Scott had a great year for the Cows, anybody who would question his spot in the squad either a. hasn't watched a Cowboys/Origin game all year and just assumes he is garbage, b. has no idea about football or c. both.
