Fixing the right edge

One game its the left edge, the next the right.......everyones edges get targeted.

WHat REALLY worries me is the way someone runs through our middle seemingly EVERY game with barely a hand laid on them. Its a try every time. Seems to happen 30-60mins in every game.

I think we should drop anyone who can't defend to an NRL standard..

Seriously though many of our players are strong on one side of the ball but not the other, it’s a real issue.

Laurie - lightning in attack but let’s face it, cover defense has been average at best
Nof - on his day an attacking weapon, loves a woeful ankle tap attempt and can’t defuse bombs
Brooks - defense has improved but attack has stalled
Twal - honest defender but stunts the attack
Joe O - has moments in attack but gets caught flat footed in D
Doueihi- showing great signs in attack but getting found in the line
Luci - a weapon when he runs hard but moves like a slug in D
BJ - jeckyl and Hyde depends what day it is

The list probably goes on.

Cant have Garner there, he’s too rocks and diamonds, either he doesn’t care or he’s just not bright.

* 29 Tries conceded in total (kick tries excluded due to element of luck)
* 14 Right edge defense caused try
* 9 Left edge defense caused try
* 6 Middle defense caused try
* 14 Luciano’s edge conceded the try ( moved from left to right edge for Dragons game)

Worryingly, in our last 3 games Luciano’s edge has conceded 6 tries.

Went through the tries today, middle tries happened in 5 games (just over half) and on 6 occasions. I reckon most teams in the Comp would have conceded that many through the guts. The 14 down our right (many of them just weak efforts) is more alarming. Kieran Foran strolled through us.

Our defence sucks, AD is part of the problem not the only problem.

I hear they’re moving him to the left, so we’ll see if the right goes any better without him.

The issue is that all the aspects of D that have been mentioned come down to the same basic ingredients- effort, desire, attitude and aggression.
With the tries up the guts.....Our guys are too slow mentally and physically at marker. They take forever to get up off the ground and square up - no urgency. They also are slow to fill space inside.
Madge hit the nail on the head when he said they have got to want it more than they want anything - fact is they simply don’t! Until we fix that we’ll keep getting what we currently have.

As Tallis said, this club has had a soft underbelly forever. Everyone knows it and everyone exploits it. Its embarrassing . The players show just enough mongrel one week in six to think they may have turned the corner, then its back to the same old soft crap they dish out as normal.
Is Magure part of the problem? I don't know, but I do know that a half a dozen coaches haven't been able to fix it.
Maguire is possibly our best bet of eventually having a team we can be proud of - or at least not embarrassed by.
