Hahaha I ran water for my sons u/15s team.... Every time they had a try scored against them. I had to relay the coaches instructions to them. In the ingoal while the conversion was taken.
Telling thirteen teenagers what theyre doing wrong and need to be doing....?... Advanced physics at uni would be easier I reckon

I’m coaching under 9s at the moment there’s 12 of them and everyone has adhd or add or autism!! I don’t think advanced physics would be easier I know it would be lol!! Going grey well before my time aha

Zig.... A friendly tip... No need to constantly remind us all you played bush footy.... It sorta rubs people up the wrong way as it comes across as "I know, you don't....because I used to play 30 years ago"
We're all impatient, you need to understand the younger generation these days generally have no patience in this age of instant everything.
Hope to see you at Ashfield in a couple

I understand what you are telling me Ink.I have never had a bad word to you or get upset when you are telling me something,I do appreciate the adult way you explain my faults...having said that,I just wanted to let people know who are adament that Madge,Mbye and others out of THEIR favour ,need to realise that the things Madge is trying to get right for the club takes hard work, patience and a lot of the time pain...I have never been about big noting myself but more so passing on knowledge and experience to the people of the forum may not have experienced so that it may clarify things more to them...never meant to grandstand or be bigger than anyone else on here and you should know me also and my personality...cheers mate...

Mate - I don't see why you need to explain yourself or apologise to people for saying you've played footy?

People can either agree or disagree, but to get all tall poppy on you for giving some background context to your point is their problem. Not yours.

For the life of me, I can't understand why anyone would be rubbed up the wrong way from your post.

I'd say the long term members of this forum feel very close to each other, some may hate each other for no apparent reason- all like one big happy family.

That said, you should never pay note of how people on here respect or disrespect you. I'm sorry TT but any disrespect you feel here is on you. This is an online forum with all sorts of people, many on here a type that you may never talk to in real life.

I like your posts sometimes but if you feel offended on here, you shouldn't be on here.

I used to help coach and train the 7’s through to 11’s .
One kid would lose a boot , another kid was eating grass etc ..
One game one player was hobbling all game .. at full time he took his boot of and tipped out loose change and went to the canteen to buy a pie ?

It’s all worth the time and effort mate !

Sometimes with the school teams I coached we had to ref our own games, in the middle of play one Friday I had one of my players run up to me and ask to go buy an Ice Cream from Mr. Whippy who had just pulled in.

It gets worse when they’re older ..I’m helping out with my young blokes under 18’s
They turn up with hangovers , vaping , smoking ciggies etc ?

@TrueTiger , I get where you’re coming from.

From the hate of Madge, Brooks, Mbye even Liddle at the start of the year to everyone loving them.. when in reality all they needed to do is give them some slack and wait.

“How long for”

Just be patient, I believe all of us thought deep down that we weren’t going to make the 8 December / January, until we signed joffa and Jimmy the jet..

Personally that’s how I felt, I didn’t feel much about it then we signed a few and I was pretty ecstatic..

As for some of the posts on here and the forum lately is feeling like high school and find it pretty crap honestly... leave it to footy and wests tigers...

Also if we do make the finals this year, I hope to meet everyone on the forum.. long time observer but really only joined to voice my anger when it was going tough..

I have been playing Oz Tag with some guys in their late teens and early 20's and they were all vaping on the sideline before games.

A mate of mine Hobs used to smoke 2 Marlborough Reds at halftime...he represented Riverina and could play,,dont know how he is these days, but it was pretty common for some blokes to smoke and play footy..Trivia for you Alan McMahon who played for the Balmain Tigers and Aust used to smoke back then, but I think he gave it away when he had to pick between footy and smoking...

Love the coaching stories thanks for sharing.

Regarding the thread, we are going to win 2/3 and everyone will forget this happened.

My coaches throughout the years

League - Greg Matterson toughest I had.

Union - David Campese was great, very direct and simple instructions.

Topo Rodriguez great coach too. Tough but fair. Wouldn't want to be caught having a smoke near Topo 😬

For the record, I was one of the ones that was leaning more towards wanting Madge gone. I was and am happy form seems to be turning, and good on him for that. I wish him all the success in the world.

Having said that, let's not get carried away. We've won 2 from 3, but most of the season we've been pretty average on a number of levels. The players looked under-motivated...it was a shit-show.

He's obviously changed something in his approach, and I don't just mean positional/roster changes. Let's just hope they kick on.

To earlier comments about playing/not playing - it's irrelevant. Some of my best coaches never played a high level, and most of my worst coaches did. Coaching and playing are 2 different beasts. Often good players can't coach because they just did on the field. They never had to break things down as it came naturally.
