Why would you want to check my resume ...I havent applied for anything, but to have a good conversation and help others obviously I need to lower myself to your level of garbage that wont ever happen

I sincerely don't care who you are - I generally read what you say and much of it makes sense.

However, if you open posts with statements about former play and coaches in an effort to gain credibility, it seems reasonable people might want to know more in order to establish if that credibility is warranted.

I read here for a bit of fun. I don't pretend to know much beyond being an avid observer and student of the game. Everyone gets an opinion whether they've played, coached, are old or young, male or female.

**As long as you're a supporter you're OK with me (although the pedant in me hates some of the poor spelling and grammar 🙂 )**

Haha...me too

I was coached by a first grader and son of a Kangaroo.... I remember the day we were all told Ken Hey was gunna coach us.... Everyone's response was "who"?

To me who people are doesnt really matter, its more what they do.

I find it hard to take advice about the coach by someone who has supported every single coach, even the dud ones.

Each coach and each conversation has its own merits and intricacies. Same applies for players. Some of us support them come what may, others like myself discuss the situation on its current methods. Our opinions are fluid and based on what we are seeing, for example Ive gone from one of Maguires biggest supporters to a week by week critic.

Good luck to those who have the support them at all costs philosophy but to me those posts comes across as nothing more than im a "true fan" and youre not thing.

I once coached my daughter's under six netball team for two sessions-coaching is really hard.

Hahaha I ran water for my sons u/15s team.... Every time they had a try scored against them. I had to relay the coaches instructions to them. In the ingoal while the conversion was taken.
Telling thirteen teenagers what theyre doing wrong and need to be doing....?... Advanced physics at uni would be easier I reckon

I’m coaching under 9s at the moment there’s 12 of them and everyone has adhd or add or autism!! I don’t think advanced physics would be easier I know it would be lol!! Going grey well before my time aha

Keep up the great work mate, its people like you that make others glad to be part of a sport...well done...

Cheers mate appreciate it Heaps.

Aha sounds like my youngest boy although he snuck off with his change during warm up and ran on the field with a bacon and egg sandwich aha

I thought I best start a new thread because it involves a lot of people within the club...
Firstly I need to say that many on the forum always seem to want to ridicule me because I mention a lot of times that I have played the game and have been coached by rep level coaches...fair enough if it irks you ,but at least listen to what I have to say in regard to our great game and how things work from within so that we all have a much clearer observation to make so as to have a positive input to the topic in question..
Many on here wanted Madge gone a few weeks ago because THEY THE FANS werent getting the results THEY WANTED..its not that easy...Madge has to get all the players recruited and sort out who plays where and who is best credentialed for that position...
Daine Laurie was a great pick up and he WILL be our fullback for seasons to come,he is young and still learning,Tamou was purchased for his leadership, not his playing prowess because Madge has targetted young more volatile players for the position but need experience beside them while they learn...
Same goes for JTJ and to a degree BJ,their experience is undeniable when right,Madge has also made changes that most members questioned and said he has finally lost the plot,AD to centres,Mbye to 5/8 and JTJ to wing...but how is our team looking since the changes...we are on a winning run...unheard of last year and earlier this year...
When i say I played, and its a different game now,I was moved all over the backline until coach was happy in playing me at the time inside centre, later I was played at outside centre and then wing...my point is the coach determines what the best formula and winning combination is best for the team...we are now JUST STARTING to get the results we need albeit some more work needs to be done...
Having T.Sheens back in the fold and easing the work load off Madge so he can concentrate on delivering a competative and finals bound team is first and utmost, congratulations to the club for having the foresight to employ him again....

Not a bad player in his own right was Ken. Played a bit of 5/8 for Wests but, as you say, his old man was very good.

Sometimes with the school teams I coached we had to ref our own games, in the middle of play one Friday I had one of my players run up to me and ask to go buy an Ice Cream from Mr. Whippy who had just pulled in.

Or when running drinks they’d say what’s this crap .. I’d say water .. they’d say we want powerade’s ?

It gets worse when they’re older ..I’m helping out with my young blokes under 18’s
They turn up with hangovers , vaping , smoking ciggies etc ?

I have been playing Oz Tag with some guys in their late teens and early 20's and they were all vaping on the sideline before games.

Apparently it’s all the go at school.
They’re idiots ..
I told my young bloke I’d knock him out if he does it ..

A mate of mine Hobs used to smoke 2 Marlborough Reds at halftime...he represented Riverina and could play,,dont know how he is these days, but it was pretty common for some blokes to smoke and play footy..Trivia for you Alan McMahon who played for the Balmain Tigers and Aust used to smoke back then, but I think he gave it away when he had to pick between footy and smoking...

It never stopped Cliff Lyons who was one of the best 5/8 i have ever seen

Pretty well standard fare when I played 18's in the early eighties, without the vaping of course. Plenty of stoners in the side, so even a bit of black putty got smoked before hitting the sheds back in the day.

Forgot about the King , Smoking Joe Kilroy as well

The one thing that sticks out:
We recruited Tamou for leadership...

IMHO we got both. But on leadership, we were missing it in spades in the forwards.

Two examples:
Apparently Jayson Bakula from the Sharks regularly pushed guys like Chris Heighington and Luke Lewis to train harder. Jayson wasnt great by himself but guys around him did better due to attitude.

Likewise at Easts. Craig Fitzgibbon would wressle all the guys , any time. He would Wressle and Wressle hard, drill wressling and defensive grit.

Ofcourse there is Melbourne too, need I say more.

For ages we have been "Soft", not saying we had the best coming in. But we had some talent. We never built that grit and I think it comes back to training and leadership. Guys like Farah and Liam Fulton kind of stand out to me as Tiger past players who could lead.

Penrith have built up an awesome group of youngsters. Tamou is clearly a leader. I dont think we have lead or built that culture of Grit training and pushing performance.

With Farah as a trainer and with Tamou we may have something to build on. But we need to recognise this, push this, develop this.

Most of our boom forwards have left us, Todd Payten, Chris H, etc. Establishing the right Culture here is FAR more important the making the 8. We get the culture right, we have always had the talent and potential to be a top side.
