For anyone bagging Hastings

BTW, I'm intrigued by this notion that unless you are The Greatest Teammate Evah! you're no good in the sport of rugby league. If this is the case I can think of a very, very long list of outstanding rep-level players who must have been no good. I'll never forget a story told by one of the St. Helens players many years ago about a NZ import who invited him to his home one afternoon and then proceeded enthusiastically to show off his German WWII memorabilia and photographs taken with his Neo-Nazi mates back home. To say they didn't see eye-to-eye from that point onward would be an understatement. But once they entered the field - all of that stuff was shoved to the side because the only thing that mattered was winning.

The bigger issue at the club appears more to be why players go down several pegs when they play for us but generally go up when they play elsewhere.
Garner looked good playing with Penrith on Friday; Liddle played well with St George - the list goes on. I'm not saying all have become game breakers but there is something rotten in Denmark when that happens quite a bit.

Last time the Tigers won with Brooks at halfback was August 14 2021.
Wow that’s a shocking stat. And looks like our last win with Brooks in the halves (5/8) was round 7 last year. Still pretty shocking but these probably don’t paint the whole picture.

We only won like 4 games in total last year, and suffered some heavy losses being led around the park by AD and Madden too.

It's not that they go down several pegs, it's an almost total lack of cohesion as a team over the past couple of years. There is talk about the "Spine" controlling the team's destiny, our "Spine" are 4 individualists, they do not work together , 3 have played together for over 2 years now ( not counting the disruptions through injury ) but they still play as though they don't know each other and it looks as though none of the 3 have bothered to educate themselves on how Api plays because he is 2 play the balls ahead of them. When is the time to start trying other combinations, I don't know, but we've avoided over the last few years ( apart from injury necessity ) moving players or dropping players.
It's though the players make the decisions on where they want to play, who they want to play with and how they'll play and the coaching staff and management are too scared to do anything to upset them. You can count the players in this squad that are entitled to any input on one hand ( cutting off 2 fingers ).
They're paid to be a member of a team, if they can't or don't want to do that , move them on .

For anyone bagging Hastings saying all he does is point and isn't fast enough. That attitude is half the reason this club sucks. Watch the good halfbacks, they never stop talking and demand the team execute the plays. Hastings isnt the best half by a long shot but shows more class than anyone on our current squad. I'd rather have a half that barks and leads his team around the park, rather than a half back thats supposedly fast but isn't smart enough for the NRL and doesn't have any confidence to grab this team by the balls and orchestrate attacking plays for 80mins.

As far as I'm concerned we let the wrong halfback go and we really needed a strong leader in at 7 yesterday.

Hastings may have hit Tommy in the face, but there was no malice in it and he was doing everything he could to stop a try.

Hastings also had the decency to try to apologise to Tommy after the game which most players wouldn't do.

We need to explore getting a new halfback now.

He ain’t gunna root you bro

Hastings was as slow as a wet week but his positional play and passing game were good. He wasn't scared to stand back from the ruck to offset his slowness he then picked his runners or gave it to Gamble to pick up the runners. They kicked fairly well and Crossland's dummy half play wasn't bad either. It allowed the other players to concentrate on the job at hand. Our spontaneous type of game just doesn't work, you need structure.
In saying that Brooks and Api were just below their counterparts, AD was substandard.
Centres need to get deep they don't have that speed off the mark to stand so flat. ( That could be coaching though and most sides play that way )
It doesn't matter how fast you are if you only run sideways

Who cares about him he is not part of this club anymore
Correct and look how well Newy are going with him in the team...FOOTBALL nous, put in a challenge and won ...no try to worriers...they are defending well and Hastings is calling the shots...
But lets put our faith in has been halves.club icons and a coach we sacked for NON performance....some on this forum are quite entitled to their opinion EVEN though they have no BLOODY idea...

Relax bro. Sheens said he was never a half and kept the one he wanted.

Knights were very predictable when Pearce was there as he was the ONLY playmaker....

With Hastings x Gamble/Crossland/Ponga + Miller at the back - they're much more dynamic. Especially with the smart, crafty #7 controlling the attack.

Their spine is very solid. Arguably Ponga is the only big name player in there and he hasn't even been playing. His best position is fullback for mine and probably close to medical retirement if he keeps copping the head knocks.

They've put together a spine whilst we fell asleep at the wheel.

1 AD - not a fullback,
Daine Laurie - reserve grade standard
Charlie - decent, 1 year contract

6 - AD, looks disinterested, ineffective, out of form

7 - Brooks - don't even need to elaborate on that.
Wakeham - untested, reserve grade standard, they don't like him.

And that's what we decided to roll with this year - the ineptitude around this is mind boggling.

Demps I have noticed the guys who belittled me because I said Hastings was the guy we needed as a player who could organise and guide this team around the park, are not on the forum as much,Snidest who belittles everyone for having an opinion that opposes his or Paws who jammed it down my throat how much we would improve with Sheens,Benji and Farah at the helm havent been seen since we are 0/5...

Just wondering why that is....

This Hastings guy looked pretty good tonight, Tigers should have a look at him..

I reckon Jacko will rival Walsh as signing of the year.

Really good performance tonight, but just such an excellent organiser and game manager. Good kicking game, more than capable ball-player and exceptional defender for a halfback. Just lacks a bit of speed for an effective running game, but deadset ticks every other box. I've always enjoyed watching Jackos gameplay plan, and will continue to do so.

Wait for ponga to stink up the joint

Ponga can be a great player.
We haven't seen it often though.

I think he loses his origin jersey to Walsh.

If they persist with him at #6 they're as stupid as us persisting with Brooks.

Put a guy with poor defensive techniques and a history of head knocks in the front line....

I doubt if Newie would still be continuing to play Ponga at 6 for 10 years though,us on the other hand

Raiders showed it doesn't matter who is in the 17 if the players turn up with the right attitude and put their shoulders in.
