For anyone bagging Hastings

This Hastings guy looked pretty good tonight, Tigers should have a look at him..

I reckon Jacko will rival Walsh as signing of the year.

Really good performance tonight, but just such an excellent organiser and game manager. Good kicking game, more than capable ball-player and exceptional defender for a halfback. Just lacks a bit of speed for an effective running game, but deadset ticks every other box. I've always enjoyed watching Jackos gameplay plan, and will continue to do so.
Sheens eye for a quality footballer is on point

Earl - always nice to have hope but so dangerous when it comes to our tigers! I try to temper my expectations so as not to feel too depressed going into a new week.

I think part of my frustration with hastings as it has been with so many decisions is the complete lack of transparency from the club and the willingness to treat its supporters like morons.

I'm frustrated as well. I just want a win. I don't have high expectations at all.

The Hastings issue to me is a clear cut case of the decision makers in my opinion not making good decisions.

I hate to say it but I hope Brooks plays well otherwise I don't think we can win
I love your enthusiasm mate, but Brooks is a very ordinary halfback and the only way he plays well tommorrow is if Api,Bateman and Klemmer kick him up the arse and make him do his job the way his payckeck is earned....I also hope he starts to play well because I cant watch another game while he is in the team...

Their 7 is no world beater and put an out of the blue good performance.

Their star player was off this week.

It's too simplistic to point the finger at one bloke. They were good 1 to 17 its a team sport. Our 1 to 17 have not been putting in like the Raiders never seen them play that hard
It is not unfair at all...the facts are that the 7 controls the game.

If a pack works their butts off to cart you up the field...and the 7 ends the set the way ours does, it kills the team / energy / field position / the works.

Forwards have carried it 80 in 5 plays and he kicks into legs...

Or passes into a center's face.

Or kicks it out dead.

I have been a Brooks fan since Holy Cross, but I have never seen one player destroy a team like he has with us this season. He has been appallingly bad.

It is not pointing the finger at one bloke....it is pointing the finger at the 'main' bloke as the 7 controls the game.

His lack of control and final tackle options this season have been the worst I have seen from a first grade half in 40 plus years watching.

We can't run away from the issue anymore. In NFL terms, we have a clueless quarterback...and you can't have your main playmaker have no idea what to do when it counts.

I dont think the Sheens Benji thing is working...as bad as many say Brooks is playing, what does that say about the coaching...Sheens hasnt coached in NRL for over a decade and Benji hasnt even gone out into any group to learn what coaching is all about....no wonder we are a laughing stock....shame really for 2 great foundation clubs united to become a force in the rugby league world only to be taken over by the boys club and turned into a basket case...

change my mind ....

Spot on. Getting rid of Hastings instead of Brooks was completely the wrong decision any way you slice it. Even if you think Hastings is a better 13 than 7, he's still a better 7 than anything else we had at the club at the time anyway.

Then the issue is compounded with Brooks being named in the 7. Getting rid of Hastings would have been at least in some capacity understandable if we saw:

6. Brooks
7. Wakeham

Still absolutely incorrect in letting Hastings go, but at least there would be some recognition of the fact that Brooks isn't a 7 and whatever, maybe Sheens saw something in Wakeham that others didn't.

But no, we started the year with Brooks in the 7. We've got 10 years of evidence now that he can't lead, that he can't control a game, he can't organise sets, he can't effectively function at first receiver and he can't create in attacking zones with any consistency. Even when Brooks is playing "well" (at least by his standards) it's still wrong to have him in the 7 because he's not doing things you need your 7 to be doing, he's doing things you want your 6 to be doing. It's actually quite difficult to find a good Brooks highlight video on youtube (a sad reflection of a poor 10 year career) but even when you do, most of his good plays are him running in space and wider of the ruck.

Hastings has improved since last year. Last year he took way too much ball and didn't let his 5/8 in the game enough. Defences swamped him as it was obvious where the ball would go. Yesterday against the Warriors, he asked Crossland to do almost all of the long kicking and ball playing to the backs.

He may be slow but he can manage a game.

But yet apart from last week our forward pack hasn’t been steamrolled. Forward pack has done their job the first 4 rounds but Brooks hadn’t done his job in all 5 rounds.

We look half asleep most of the time.

I was at Leichhardt team looked disinterested and despondent across the park.

Not sure that's doing your job.

The thing that Hastings has got that Brooks will never have if he hasn't got it now, is self belief. You can't compete if you don't back yourself especially in professional sport and we are no hope with him in a key position.
Hastings head is always in the game and while his limitations have been identified over and over again he leads on the field and players respond.
If you can't see the difference he has made in a side that plenty here had pegged as spoon material you just don't want to. Cant see them making the 8 but at least to date they have given their fans something to get behind.
