For the Kids sake.................

fantastic post ink: couldnt agree more. this is my view in life as well, however, i find a lot of people i encounter (hoping for a good, open minded conversation) simply have a belief and refuse to accept anything other than their own view. still, that is just them and we can feel good about ourselves knowing we can accept differences. heaven knows i have received a lot of heat with my posts in recent years regarding benji! i even at one time opened a thread saying we should get rid of him! thankfully, i am happy now to admit how stupid that would have been!! that said, it actually really upset me that i had upset people with what was simply my honest opinion about what was best for our beloved tiges.

i have to say that i am ignorant when it comes to any negativity regarding wests v balmain rivalry, as i am quite distanced from those communities and am here as i love the WESTS-TIGERS with huge passion. but the OP is spot on with regard to unity. in house bickering does nothing but harm for any organisation. i am actually in this very situation at work where two projects have merged and it is tearing a formerly awesome workplace apart.

as for the merger, well i am very fortunate as i had been a balmain supporter since 1982\. my dad played reggies for western suburbs in his day, so the merger was an amazing gift for me and my dad to support the same team! i couldnt have hoped for a better outcome! and not only that, but for them to also be such a great team has been amazing. i love the tigers….

Thanks turnstyle.
Having a sister who thinks she knows whats best for everyone in the family, and a workmate with an almighty frustratingly negative opinion on everything…I try to appreciate others points of views, I know Im not always succesful in this either.
We're all here through our passion for the game, club and players...theres three differing trends just there, add the levels of passion we all hold...we're all so different it aint funny.

Can I say this (along the lines of Simon ) that since Tim has taken over we have become the pride of the NRL and many clubs are envious of us

We are a well run unit on and off the field and as can be seen by out list of players the best of the best want to come and play for us

Our future is sound

As a ex Wests supporter I could never of hoped to expect to see Wests get anywhere near this level of professionalism on or off the field and I expect many Balmain and Wests supporters feel the same way

My experience is exactly the same ex Wests supporter who is now a mad Wests Tigers supporter. Tims Sheens indeed has made us the pride of the NRL. Only difference Happy I still support NSW in SOO.

Pride of the NRL? yes, i think we have a club to be admired but i wouldn't go that far. Its not like our record off-field is squeky clean. And i do mean off-field record during Sheens time

Proud Balmain supporter who saw his team join forces with another great team , we are now THE WESTS TIGERS , yes disapointed we had to do it early on , but now am very proud i have a team and it is without a shadow of doubt the BEST team in the comp and best fan base im 48 so i had a lot of time to support Balmain now the WESTS TIGERS

We need to enbrace the Love.

We need to send some of the love to the 15 or so "Magpie Diehards" at the rally on Sunday 5\. :roll

I was dusting off some of my jerseys recently and I still have some original magpies jerseys, including a 3/4 sleeve thick cotton white with black V sponsored by Goldstar. My 14 yo son who is a tigers supporter asked me " what team is that ? "

I did explain to him, but to the next generation of supporter, there will only be the Wests Tigers …

I remember poll threads from years past asking which team you supported before Wests Tigers (Magpies, Balmain, other, none). It would be interesting to ask that question every few years and compare to see how our demographics naturally evolve.

For me personally, I was a Balmain fan before the merger, but always had a bit of a soft spot for the Magpies. I was very happy with the merger as I couldn't see either side being anything but whipping boys or extinct if they tried to go alone.

I agree the future (and certainly the present) is going to be Wests Tigers as far as NRL is concerned, but all supporters have to realise that future players have to come from somewhere. They can’t all be bought, We have to DEVELOP the next breed of Wests Tigers players, and Wests Magpies and Balmain Tigers will provide, hopefully, the bulk of them. Look at our squad these days, and there is an abundance of local juniors there. If Wests and Balmain junior leagues aren’t nurtured properly into the future, that supply will dry up, particularly in the Macarthur area where the AFL is a massive threat.

@genoshan. WT fans old and new and especially young should identify and understand what the little magpie on the sleeve is - to honour the history of a 1908 club. Its just a recognition to the history of WT. that honour and recognition does not hinder the success or future of WT. souths, st george and roosters thrive of history and tradition, but as a NRL team made of 2 foundation clubs we dont seem to embrace it fully. the tigers brand is strong and dominant over the 'wests' and doesnt need the same push but the same goes to the honouring the link to balmain.

Yes, people seem very quick to ditch our two foundation clubs.

Once we lose Balmain and Wests Magpies they are gone… and one of our last few intact links back to day zero will gone.

Yes Wests Tigers are the future in the NRL, but why do we have to kill off our two foundation teams from every other level?

First it was Flegg
next NSW Cup
surely followed by Sg Ball and Matts

Galahs, I will never Ditch our two foundation clubs.I think they are the heart and soul of the Wests Tigers.

My understanding is Sg Ball and Harold Matthews will NEVER be touched and used as a stepping stone for all our local Juniors in the Magpie and Balmain districts.

So my understanding is …..........

Wests Magpies (Macarthur District) & Balmain Ryde Eastwood Tigers (Balmain District)

S G Ball & S G Ball
Harold Matthews & Harold Matthews
–--------------- -------------------
--------------- ---------------
------------- * -----------
Wests Tigers
National Youth League (Toyota Cup)
State Cup (NSW CUP) - Merging makes sence to me
National Rugby League (Telstra Premiership)

IMO This above Graph (set up) is the way it should have been done 12 years ago.

I do not understand why some persons are so against this happening.

Then, this way we can have all 3 grade on game day,NYC INTO NSW CUP INTO NRL.
All 3 grades can train together a concord
All 3 grade can play at the same ground be it Campbelltown,Liechhardt or the SFS.
Imo it is the best way,it is the future.
As an old magpie i will never Ditch our heritage.
