walking through a maitland shopping centre today,i saw this bloke and i knew his face.worked out that it was johnny king-a winger for saints in their golden era and coached wests for a bit. Mind you, he would have to be pushing eighty i suppose.
should have asked him whether darcy lawler had called him to play the ball in the 63 grand final..He looked to be tackled at least three times and scored in the members corner at the scg.
the 63 grand final is immortalised in the summons provan statue.
older forumers will remember the incident and have grumbled about it ever since.

We live at Caloundra Qld. Myself and my young bloke were walking along the water when he started up a conversation with an old fellow who was also going for a walk. They spoke for some time while I looked on and they said their goodbyes and walked on. I asked him if he new who he was, he said no but he had spoken with him a few times before and that he was great to talk to. I told him that is Norm Provan and maybe he should google his name when we got back home. Needless to say he was gobsmacked and couldn't believe what Norm had done and how down to earth he was. Unfortunately we haven't seen him since, but he keeps an eye out every walk.
