Four point game / a literal 'must win'...

As a WT's supporter I'm expecting a hard fought backs against the wall victory against the Knights followed by an absolute turn our toes up performance against the Dogs

Broncos & Warriors win this round we can move into 8 (of course assuming we win!). However I too am with others in finding this exhausting every year we are forced to rely on other teams in order to remain a chance.

Warriors V manly will be a stretch but I have some hope Brisbane can cause an upset on the Bunnies (who I believe are just stumbling through this season so far) Oh the joys of being a tigers fan...

PS. Hi all! long time reader first time poster here

Welcome TigerVinnie. Totally agree on the Souths assessment. They are very, very average this year.

we need Broncos to kick into gear and wun some games peg some teams back

They are the wild card for us...if they can beat Souths. Would have also been 'very' helpful if they could have held on v the Sharkies.

Noting, of course, that we have only ourselves to blame yet again (Titans / Warriors)

Have nil expectations about the Newcastle game, if we Win great, if we lose well shows how far away we always were making the 8.
I however think we should have a good performance being 250th for 2 club legends and would like to see us win for them to remember it fondly.

Souths have a horror run home aswell if we are going to jump
Any 1 it will be them

Souths also get handed most games on a platter.... Another game tonight where the refs have gifted them possession. They have only lost the penalty count 3 times this year and that was by a very small margin.. NRL is rigged

I’ve always held the same opinion as many that we lose the games we are meant to win. This year I’ve thought about it differently. We are meant to win every game aren’t we but there are some we will never win. It seems that our team feels they will win some games without putting in the effort which is disrespectful to their opposition who are also playing to win. We are often outplayed by equal or lesser opposition because we think we are better and we are entitled to win those games. You have to give it to the Warriors last week under the circumstances they have been in this Covid disrupted season to see what lifting in the crunch moments looks like. Now they have two in a row which we seem to struggle with. Did anyone say they were games they were meant to win? We have no right to assume we will win any game because we don’t have that history. I think we should be more respectful of our opposition and go into every game with a mental attitude as if we are playing for a finals spot. Instead of ladder watching we should start the season giving ourselves an imaginary 36 points let’s say and every game we lose we drop points. Our aim should be to maintain those points or better them to make the finals. Maybe that would keep us focussed on consistency instead of worrying about the games we are meant to win.

We are equal on points with the warriors. Let that sink in.

Payten’s done a good job. Seems like he can coach.

His coaching was never the problem.

He’d be our coach right now , if he didn’t openly white ant his bosses . Should have just shut up and bided his time . Still in the end , he was actually right , so you know there’s that .
Was loved by that junior crop he coached in the 20s .

Quick question,

Are members only allowed to games at the moment?
Or are you able to purchase tickets anywhere?

Thanks

Every year you are right, we lose the games we should win and end up in this situation, the Titans and Warriors games are going to burn us as usual, we are still a mentally weak club

I think this thinking is wrong, I've been saying it all year. There are no "games you should win", it's about turning up every week and focusing on your consistency of performance. If that happens, the wins come; and you don't rehash your losses, you learn from them.

The NRL isn't such a polar competition that the bottom-ranked sides aren't competitive. Bulldogs for instance have only won 2 matches but 6 of their losses have been by less than 6 points, including both losses to Parramatta. Bulldogs went on an admirable winning run last year despite finishing 12th. Sharks are probably going to make the 8 and they've lost 3 matches to teams currently placed 8 or lower (Souths, Tigers, Dragons).

The real games you need to watch for, as per the OP, are the matches against your similarly-placed opposition. A loss against Souths or Knights effectively a 4-point turnaround at this time of year.

I don't buy it, if we have any designs on a top 8 finish we don't lose to Titans and Warriors, same thing every year, and we finish bottom 8 because we deserve to

That just doesn't happen. Top 8 sides lose to Bottom 8 sides.

Yes, if you manage to beat every Bottom 8 side every match in a season, you are probably playing finals football, because that will have you near enough to 50% win rate.

But I guarantee you the sides placed 5 to 8 have taken losses against Bottom 8 sides. Every match is important. But I think most important are the matches against the opposition near to you on the table, and your competitiveness against the other finals-bound sides. No point making the Top 8 if you can only beat Bottom 8 sides.

And if you get to the end of the season and you are one win short of the finals, it's a mistake to look at one specific match against a lower-ranked opposition and say "that's the one". No, it's all the losses, particularly any large margins which kills your F/A.

The Titans match was important not because it was the Titans, but because we had it won with 2 minutes to go and couldn't close it out.
