G Burgess Eye Gouge

G'day again @gallagher : Mate the memory of a Tooheys New and a pie with sauce. I still have a pie or two but no grog for about 20 years as I reckoned by then I had drunk enough and been drunk often enough to last the rest of my life, and I still came down with a crook liver. But... I feel that may be due to the antidepressants I have had to take following an underachieving Wests Tigers for 20 years. But I gotta tell Yuh, I wouldn't be anywhere else than with Our Wests Tigers.:v:

Now fair dinkum @cktiger cool it dude...why so angry. You are incorrect with both claims re Taylor and Farah. I certainly don't believe Jason Taylor was a great coach for Us and I doubt very much that we will ever see him as an N.R.L. coach any time in the future. But on the other hand, I feel the Rorters would not have taken him back so willingly if they felt he was a goose. My thought has been all along that Jason knew when he became Our coach that Robbie had to be moved on to get some much-needed stability back in Our Club. I can't imagine any Balmain aligned person/coach being willing to do it for obvious reasons. So the only option was to get a non-Balmain aligned coach who had the strength and was prepared to take a battering from pro-Robbie people, in other words, self-sacrifice for the sake of Our Wests Tigers. Maybe I'm wrong cktiger, but that's what I feel and I will be happy to stand corrected if you can come up with a 'reasonable' point of view that shows otherwise.
I certainly 'don't' have a hatred for Robbie for any reason. Just being realistic about him. I reserve all my negative feelings for the Manly silver spoons.
No ckTiger, I certainly don't have any hurt or frustration from hearing Our team continually referred to as the Tigers. I most definitely feel Our Team should always be referred to by the proper name of Wests Tigers as I have addressed you by your full title of ckTiger, but names are always abbreviated, aren't they? So be it.

I can’t seriously believe you think that they hired Jason Taylor ‘a non Balmain aligned coach’ just to get rid of Farah.... and then got rid of him when the job was done?
That worked really well at getting stability back at the club ... while we paid him nearly a million a year to play against us.
So much so he’s back in the fold now showing all the younger players how to love the WestsTigers... not Wests or Balmain.

Back on subject , the easiest way to solve these problems that blight our game is by starting to make the clubs accountable

I heard sometime this week that the Burgess brothers have over 30 charges against them

If the clubs was getting punished instead of the players in regards to salary cap restrictions they would start behaving quick smart

If you may all violations punishable with salary cap restrictions you solve heaps of issues in the game

The problem is the NRL don't have the balls to do it

That and bringing a draft in ....you started punishing clubs with losing draft choices and they'd wisen up quick smart

That is a wonderful concept but i can just see the NRL using it as a way to punish clubs they dont like(we would have 6 suspended) for minor offences. That would be Todds idea of fairness.
The question is not that if i am paranoid but is am i paranoid enough?I would put nothing beyond the current NRL management

G'day @gallagher : Leichhardt Oval...I love LO. I was a State Transit bus driver out of Ryde Depot for approx 15 years until I retired when my wife and I then moved to a regional area where life is a lot quieter now with about 1000% less traffic. On one particular day being a weekend when the Wests Tigers were playing, I was doing a run from Rozelle into Circular Quay. I crossed over Victoria Rd and picked up a couple of passengers at the first stop. I drove about 100 metres and stopped, not moving again for ages as the traffic was just chaos. My passengers got the shits [understandibly] and got off. When the traffic started to flow again I was running so late all I could do was detour back to the Depot. LO saved me from a trip into the city and back out again.
I have only been to LO once for a Wests Magpies V Balmain Tigers match probably 40 years ago, so I don't remember the ground itself and I don't even remember who won the game.
Our Wests Tigers have to get our act together re the grounds we play out of. I'm sorry Balmain fans but IMO LO has to go.
Our Wests Tigers [yes I did say Tigers] headquarters a few years down the track MUST be Campbelltown, at least in a vastly upgraded Stadium, ideally similar or better than Parras new Stadium. It's a 'booming' growth area of greater Sydney and we couldn't fail in having have a 'booming' growth in fans and members. Our Wests Tigers will soon be the 'Powerhouse of the West', being bigger and better than Parra, Penrith and Bullydogs.

So now that its all done and dusted, could any of you support Burgess in a 2020 Tigers team?
I could.

Not really

Yes, I don't think we are the most popular club amongst NRL players at the moment, the facilities and premiership chances are better elsewhere. We also don't have much cap space for 2020.

Now is a reasonable time to take risks on players like George Burgess and Nene Macdonald with short term contracts at much less money than they were previously on.

I am not a fan of George as a human being, but he is a good prop.

Hands like feet at times

@Sart0ri
The problem with thugs is, no matter what their other qualities as players, in situations of stress they will always revert to thug, because that's what they know.

Yes I would also. I think Maguire could whip him back into being a good player again and we could always use a big body up front. Don't know if Robbie would be so keen though 😂

It is a compromise of standards and a risk. Some players lose their big deal and manage to earn their credibility back by keeping their heads down and working hard for a few years, others can't help themselves and get in trouble again.

With George you would want something in his contract that says if he is unavailable through suspension for more than 2 weeks in a year, his contract can be terminated. I would personally have a hard time supporting him but I can see the benefits of signing up good players after a brain snap or scandal.

Zero interest in signing him. Sign players on the up, not players living off a reputation forged years ago. I think about 2015 was his last decent season. Leave this kind of signing to Parramatta...

Unfortunately I don’t see either LO or CSS being our home ground. Too much money needs to be spent on both to bring them into the 21st century. It will be with either BankWest or the revamp Stadium Australia that will be our home ground. Like it or not large modern venues with exceptional corporate facilities are the future.

Yeah, it's such a shame that we have to use massive stadiums to accommodate 12,500 spectators.
