GAME: Unpopular opinions

Get rid of the double movement rule, if a player gets the ball over the line it shouldnt matter if he has lifted the ball off the ground to get it over- its too much of a grey area of interpretation.

7 tackle sets - hate it. I think it should be changed to only if kicked dead from behind the 50m line

Disagree. It forces the attacking team to be more selective. When was the last kick that went dead from beyond halfway. That would be something you'd see 2 or 3 times a yr, if that.

Use to happen all the time before the rule came in, pretty much only behind half way. When teams were under the pump and couldn't get out of their half they would deliberately kick it dead so that the fullback couldn't return it/team gets a small rest. If you put my rule in it would still eliminate the deliberate dead in goal kick and would also not unfairly give the other team a massive advantage for the next set when accidentally kicked dead from inside 50m.

40/20s should be abolished.
Why should a team be rewarded by getting to tackle 4 and failing to make it out of their own 40\. And for being lucky enough to have a player with a big boot.

Disagree , one of the best rules introduced

Another point , no golden point , a draw is a draw

The bunker/referral system in it's current form. It is never going to be precise and all of us have had enough of video refs changers over the years. They lucked it in the first week or two and decisions were much, much quicker. I also dislike selective interference during breaks in play, sure it can reverse a blatantly wrong decision, but later in the match they sit idle on others. All or nothing IMO and preferably none.

Captains call on tries only with two strikes for mine, as those on the field pretty well know whether or not a try has been scored. Basically, just get on with the game as it will never be perfect.

St George should not have denied that early try attempt last night, no way they could guarantee that ball did not touch the ball. I thought the wristbanded wrist made it clear whose hand was where. Sorry in wrong thread but I will whinge anywhere

I hate the bunker system

The bloke that talks in the bunker sounds so robotic " We have a decision and where going to the board " :brick:.Mix it up for crying out loud.

For mine the Refs and penalties are boring the crap out of the game, there stopping the flowing football fans go to watch.
Bring back the 5 minutes in the bin….they blow endless penalties but are gutless to sin bin anyone.

The main issue for mine is the Concussion rule it is a joke, i remember a couple of weeks ago Shaun Fenson copped a high shot in the 1st 50 seconds of the game vs Panthers I think it was, failed the Concussion test and Canberra had to play the rest of the game with 16 players while the Panthers player was put on report and played out the game.
There should be an 18th and 19th Man on the bench that you can replace them with if players fail a Concussion test IMO

Agree with all of it FT….

Dugan is not a good player, average at best.

disagree, he's a beast. definitely has good and bad games compared to teddy or slater who never have bad games. however, dugan at his best is a joy to watch.

yep disagree. it's not just about a big boot, any decent kicker can kick 40m punts. if there were no 40/20s, wingers would be up and sides wouldn't play expansive footy out of their own halves. we get maybe 15? 40/20s a year. it's a very hard skill and keeps fullbacks and wingers honest.

Re Bunker: still too early to call anything. i like where it's heading though. people just need to stop overanalysing and overcriticising it for the next two years.

Re Jamie Soward: very underrated. if he was a little tougher and could tackle, my first half picked for origin.

My unpopular opinion: Refs are not the best but the way fans/coaches/players treat refs who are just trying to do their job the best that they can. this is a game which is constantly influenced by refs unlike soccer/afl/cricket. the refs have the biggest say and when we see something in 10x slower than normal speed with 100x zoom and pick on the ref for not seeing it in real time, it's just unfair. the refs should be answerable to their bosses and their association. the nrl and the coaches should ask questions of tony archer and the refs association not the refs that are just following orders.

I would like to see ISIS converted over to NRL and bring all their stick into the greatest game and forget Allah this and God that.

Years ago when teaching chess in schools in a Bulldog ''Muslim" area of Sydney instead of Muslim religious lessons almost all the students chose chess lessons instead. That was until the local Mullah learnt about it and declared a fatah on chess and they all disappeared. They were fun students and fighters.

The bunker is an absolute flop and waste of money. People should stop criticizing it for 2 years you say?…....meanwhile pathetically wrong decisions are made, costing clubs' matches and potentially premierships. Hell, let's let it carry on in the hopeless sham fashion that it is currently in for another 10 years :unamused:
The NRL will never come out and admit that their big revelation is crap, but it is.....we are getting just as many decisions wrong and it is now taking just as long to get those same wrong decisions as previous years.....only difference is we get 8 camera angles of the bad decision and it costs the game $2 million for the privelidge. Ridiculous.
Surely that money can be put to better use in the grassroots area of rugby league.

If you catch the ball on the full (barring kick offs and failed penalty attempts ), you automatically go to the point from where the kick was taken

The minute you reach 5 penalties the captain gets sin binned for 5 minutes , 10 penalties captain goes for 10 minutes , 15 penalties for 15 minutes etc

Tries scored from inside own half 5 points

Tries from bombs 3 points

Bonus point for 6 tries scored

Free transfer period during SOO season , maximum of three players , only top tier players for top tier players and then have a no play v former side edict

The thread title is Unpopular Opinions not stupid ideas…

I Like Bwaith's game analysis..his call of Johnson's 1 run for 6m the other week not being good enough was garnered from years of experience...

I like Michael Ennis , I like the way he plays the game , the way he niggles / baits and provokes the opposition .
He also has the smarts , and is a good commentator when he co commentates the 20's games .

I can remember Ennis shoving his elbow onto tackled heads on the ground, low act, and cost too many penalties in SOO, we won with Robbie not him (guessing here of course)
