seems like it's going to be the way to go, but need some rain to keep the new lawn from carking it. some neighbourhood snitch will rat on me for excessive water use

I would but the eldest is having his birthday at the end of the week. Can't have all his gremlin mates running around on my new grass

Unfortunately My suggestion is the only way..
I would even use a herbicide on the exposed dirt for a month prior to starting again .
Digging them out just leaves bulbs behind..
The painful way is to brush herbicide on every individual weed .

Yeah I have a bit but not much and I get some round up and put some on the tip of the onion weed, being very careful not to put it on the grass itself, painful but it works. Better than replacing all the lawn.

I'm only new to owning a place with a lawn, but in my brief experience, using those bottles of feed n weed for lawns seems to be working for me, especially with the onion weed.
