Same for me - my Meyer lemon has thorns as well, not huge ones, but above the graft. Definitely growing Meyer lemons from the branches. We had a big water shoot a year ago that I was highly suspect about, how quickly it came up and thickened, but it has grown proper lemons as well.
Citrus are all kind of mutts aren't they? All the popular citrus fruits are some mix of the more ancient citrons, pomelos and the original mandarins.
