Probably not, but it was a good opportunity to bring it up. Regardless of last night, I've always hated Golden Point, even when we've won in it I haven't felt right about it. Seems like a hollow victory to me and totally demoralizing when your team loses.

I like the idea of it, but I agree with what Ivan Cleary said a few years back, the refs are too scared to make calls during golden point so it becomes a lottery, so at that stage, what's the point. A draw is fine as a result, but I don't see it ever going back that way.

The NRL want to look after the players welfare by reducing the interchanges but are happy for a Club to have a 5 Day turnaround and play extra time, of course there not to know when they were doing the draw but we had players cramping up from fatigue.

1 point to each team is a good reward to both sides for there effort. IMO

I'm not the biggest fan of golden point for the reasons most of you have said .. FACT = if we had won in golden point , this thread wouldn't exist !

golden point sucks
bash it one out most of the time and hope for a field goal.
i don't call that much of a spectacle at all.
even worse when scores are tied the last 6 minutes of regular time and it is just one out go for field goal time after time,and then have to sit through more of it.

if we only played 12 games a year i could see the need for it.

Hobbo, you can't call it a "FACT" that this thread wouldn't exist if we'd won in golden point because that didn't happen! For something to be a fact, it has to actually happen. And you can't pre-empt that this thread wouldn't exist if we'd won because to know that for sure, you would have to be in the mind of the person who actually started it - namely me :stuck_out_tongue: and, trust me, that is not a place you would want to go into :mrgreen:

Agree Happy, golden point should be reserved for finals football. The one point is invaluable through the season proper.

We talk about crap refereeing, so let's make it a but easier on them.

It is not unreal to think that a team could be involved in three or four Golden Point decisions in the one season and lose every one of those games. The players, especially the forwards and centres are mentally drained and physically exhausted after 80min. So, what happens?...One of the players from either team gives away a penalty kick within range trying to bust his guts for his team or a fast back runs through a hole which otherwise would not be there or....we have a drop kick lottery. RUBBISH!!!

You are spot on quintus furthermore ….. like you said if that one side loses 3 or 4 Golden point games throughout the year , the 1 point they could possibly get for a draw could be the difference between making the Semis or missing out .

Don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but I think both sides should get 1 point if scores are tied after 80 mins.

Then still play the 10 mins Golden Point, and the winner gets another 1 point.

So the winner of Golden Point gets 2 points for the win, but the other side still gets 1 point for the draw after 80 mins.

Much fairer reward for both teams.
