Golden Point

Ive never agreed with GP games being worth extra comp points…I dont know why people cannot see the imbalance the NRL say it would cause....you think its a mess now....this would be a shambles

In what way?

Winner gets 2 points just like every other team that wins a match, and the GP loser gets 1 point for the draw after 80 mins.

Don't see what could be so shambolic and imbalanced about it at all. Not like the competition ladder is going to tip over onto its side if three points are issued for a GP game.

Well for a start youre rewarding losing….youre rewarding teams unable to win...all because it goes for 80 min plus....what a joke

No your not rewarding losing, your acknowledging a regular time draw. Your then rewarding the extra time winners with an additional competition point.

They use this exact system in the NHL, where anyone who loses in overtime still takes a point.

You also have soccer, rugby, and cricket among other sports using points bonus systems of different degrees. None of those sports have become bankrupt, fallen over, or spontaneously combusted.

Just an idea to make things fairer than the current Golden Point system.

What a load of craps by the NRL. Completely avoid the fact most people would be happy with a draw.

what's wrong with 10 minutes of extra time?

draw at the end of that is a draw unless finals.

it will still be a field goal a thon, but at least you have a chance to level it if they hit one.

Because Rugby League is an 80 minute game, not 90.

really? cause ive seen quite a few league games go for more than 80 minutes.

not the strongest argument.

they could have said that for the countless changes that have been made in the last 120 years.

'rugby league is a 15 man game, not 13'

Surely you get my point?
The article comes out to explain why all these other solutions are wrong but dismisses the idea that the majority of people would be happy to see a draw.

I know this is an out there idea , but maybe you could let the home side decided what they wanted to do

You could either take the point for the draw or go 10 minutes extra time (no golden point )

Would add to the drama of the spectacle

It the NRL removes the golden point they will be doing a service to the health of fans who sweat it out during every second of that 10 minute period.

so in one game we have a draw and a winner???

Yeh,…its insane

Agreed Ink …under this proposed system...Team A wins 12 has 4 Golden point losses finishes on 32 competition points ...Team B has 12 wins and 12 losses finish on 28 Competition points....madness ...Clubs would blow up delux...

Watch the Storm against Cowboys.

Perfectly setup field goal to put them just out of reach.

Why aren't we that smart?
