Grand Final Luncheon Today...

I was at the lunch today and loved every minute of it. Taylor spoke about meeting the challenges he set at the start of the year to improve our defence, which we did. Also stated if we continue with that level of improvement our ladder position will also increase.

Big themes from a few speakers on implementing a great culture throughout every stakeholder - players, staff, members etc.

The bit I loved most was Taylor pulling the entire room into line for talking during an interview with Keithy and Patty on them leaving the club. Nobody was really listening or paying attention including many of the players who were standing at the bar.

Towards the end of the event Taylor stepped in and said he felt Galloway and Patty deserved more respect and invited them to repeat their speeches. The crowd was still rowdy so taylor told the room to "shut up" a few times before then allowing Pat and Keith to talk.

I really got the feeling that taylor was embarrassed about the disrespect and this is the exact culture he is attempting to change. I was very impressed.

"As an organisation we really need to rethink how we do our business on a daily basis and perform our operational activities. Our focus must remain outcome-driven in everything we do," Pascoe said.

"Mediocrity in our daily activities will not be accepted – not today, not tomorrow and not ever.

I was disappointed to hear there were no WTs representatives at the NRL Nation school holiday thing for GF week at Darling Harbor… Despite players from every other club including Melb and NZ being able to manage it.... yet there's three or four on TFS last night

Sad if true.

Thanks for that BB.
I am also impressed to hear JT made the room shut up and respect 2 guys who gave great service to the club.
Awesome to hear.

BB, so in terms of culture and being respectful to others, it is a case of Taylor doing as I say and not as I do.

Can you also imagine Wayne Bennett or Paul Green refusing to engage with any player, never mind the player beng an international, SOO and our most experience player as well as captain! A farcical situation created by Taylor.

I too was at the GF luncheon and enjoyed it. Great to see Heigno Benny Galea Todd Payten Daniel Fitzhenry amongst others in attendance .Great speech by Brett Hodgson by satellite link from Widnes where he is assistant coach..He expressed a desire to be involved again with the club. They could do worse than look at Brett for NSW Cup coach, assistant coach whatever.
I detected a lot of support in the room for the direction the club is heading and a lot of optimism about the future. The attitude was positive. Good to see Robbie there interacting with players and fans and despite no contact with JT he was in good spirits.
Justin Pascoe's first task should be to attempt to sort out the impasse between these two so we can move forward
The club sat a player at each table. We had Marty Tapau and his wife Marley. Very nice, friendly people who made a real effort to engage with us plebs at the table.Great PR and a nice touch. Joel Caine did an excellent job as MC.

Bennett only coaches top quality teams and everywhere he goes he insists on bringing in top talent as well. He has never been in the position that JT is in.

The greatest coach of all time is Jack Gibson mainly because he went to clubs with lesser rosters and tried to improve them. Roosters, Parra, Souths, Sharks.

He dropped him to reggies for the tail end of the year because he signed with the Roosters - and he wanted to play someone in first grade to gel with the team who was going to stay.
Not quite the same as Farah considering Hodges was a kid who had only played a dozen or so first grade games at the time.
He also wasn't a life member and club captain - or contracted for the next 2 years.

Short memories and rose coloured glasses. Bennett sacked wally Lewis acrimoniously when he was shaping the culture of the Broncos. What jt is doing with Farah pales into insignificance….the fans were in uproar....guess who was right

There is a chance that JT has it right. The problem is that the team underperformed last year. He also can't just sack Robbie because Robbie has a contract. So based on what we know JT has it wrong and isn't up to it.

I think JT really has to prove himself next year. We have to have a complete turnaround in our on field performances.

The difference you are overlooking is Taylor is not fit to shine Bennett's shoes.

You're really showing your ignorance paws… Bennett had only a couple of years experience at the time as well
Too easy

You're right , Bennett was only young but he was a SOO winning coach and had taken the Raiders to the GF before that.
And, it was a big (and unpopular) call on his part.
Either way , I'm willing to bet Taylor will never be held in the same regards as a coach as Bennett.

I do think its possible that Taylor turns into a decent coach. The problem is based on this year he is a dud coach.

You have to ignore his spin. Blaming past players/coaches/administrations etc and his talk about defence being so important was all spin to justify a team that appeared poorly coached.

At the same time I think the team improved over the course of the year and he has purchased well for next year. He also did some good things for instance in letting some players go and moving Lawrence. Truthfully Robbie is also at the end of his career however I think you can still get value out of him as you can out of Lawrence.

I just reckon JT needs to prove himself next year. No more spin. No more excuses.
