Griffin had the job

I have it on good authority that Grifffin was all but over the line as head coach. They flew him down to Sydney ready to give him the job as a safe, experienced option to guide a young roster. However once they flew him down for the interview they found him um and arring his way through. Apparently had none no back ground on the club, no real knowledge of the roster, or no concrete plans for the future of the club.

Potter was apparently much the same. Mayer actually recommended keeping Potter however in his interview he was very dull, um and arring his way through. The new board which had come in were underwhelmed by both candidates vision and ability to inspire the room.

Then Taylor came in and blitzed it. He had done a huge amount of background on the club and its injury history, its current rosters, its strengths and weaknesses, his plans for the future. The board were so impressed the decision was practically made immediately to offer him the job given how impressive he was compared to Griffin and Potter.

Take it with a grain of salt. I mean without any info you could have concluded that Taylor obviously impressed compared to the others. However it was encouraging to here just how impressive he was that he was a clear stand out and not a border line decision to give the gig to.

Taylor probably was not my first choice originally however this really heartened me that we might have not a very smart operator. Obviously man management is what comes into play over the course of a season and there have been questions marks int he past for Taylor in this regard. Your only as good as the cattle you have though so he still could be in for a bumpy ride.

I'm sure I have heard a similar story about Nathan Brown's interview for the coaching position.

Yes. Because in the world of corporate governance it is well known that the longer you can talk about something the better you must be at it.

So what you're saying is that Griffin "Had" the job… except he hadn't,... because he never signed anything. So what you're actually saying is that Anthony Griffin was considered as coach but the club selected Jason Taylor instead.

I hadn't gathered that up until now. Nice one.

Well even if it is hearsay,at least JT did a lot of preparation before his interview…I hope he is the same during his tenure here, always working to get the right results...

I'd say JT had got most of his info from us

Like I said in my original post its nothing any fan could not deduce anyway.

However it gave me hope that Taylor was extremely prepared and a clear stand out against some experienced candidates.

We have been searching for a coach with an intensity matched with a shrewd mind for a while. Sheens and Potter were pretty soft in terms of their address and quite set in their ways.

Not saying Taylor is the answer, however he will be something different.

Hobbo, well I hope our info certainly helps the WTs,they need all the help they can get..let's see what sort of experts we are….

Bit of a fall from grace. To me it shows maybe he lacked a bit of ambition as you think he could have easily secured an assistants gig somewhere in the NRL.

There's some smart footy brains on this forum , but I bet that the players are told to stay away for obvious reasons . (Especially after a loss ) .

Don't know about Griffin having the job but Taylor's interview went down exactly as Eddie said…..

I think the biggest thing going against Griffin was lack of preparation due to his commitments to the Broncos

Lets hope Taylor can do more than talk the talk or it will be a long few seasons

Thats the unknown with taylor. How will he react to a 5 match losing streak. Will he throw the toys out and start pointing the finger. Don't get me wrong the best coaches around are known for their raging intensity and fire. However there players still love them and want to play for them. Taylor appeared an angry ant at Souths that the players did not respect in the end. Im sure he has matured since then but the WT and all that goes with the club will certainly test him his make up.

I don't know why but to me ? Griffin comes across as an arrogant type persona i could be wrong , but just by his interviews after games.
I feel comfortable the direction our Club is going .

Happy and GEO,it seems to me JT has done a lot in recent years and also learnt a lot…the key word in Eddies thread I think is preperation,I hope he is prepared to feel the wraith of the fans if he disappoints ...

Look if JT can keep everyone fit and bring a bit of luck back to the club it will be happy days.

Also, be nice if JT brings more Campbelltown back in Wests Tigers veins. I miss the days of Hodgo, Skando, Fulton, Gibbs. That C-Town westie vibe from the club has been dormant for too long. Need that passion back.

I think JT may struggle a bit early….but if we do have a long term ideal as mayer suggested in his monthly spiel, then we need to show Taylor some patience....its going to take time...as it was always going to be for Potsy who got only 2 years with nothing to work with

Potter lost it for me when he pulled Robbie off the field for 20 mins with the game in the balance.

Aside from that we seemed to lose our once famous attacking zing completely.
