There was a welcome addition back to training today in the newly married Benji Marshall.
The brilliant five-eighth returned to Concord Oval to continue pre-season training ahead of next month’s trial matches after having a week off to enjoy his honeymoon following his marriage to Zoe Balbi in Byron Bay.
Aware that his honeymoon would clash with the first week of 2013 training, Marshall returned to training in the first week of November despite not being required to come back a week later with other international players.
In warm conditions, Marshall took to the field for another long session under NRL Coach Mick Potter and his staff.
One of the drills simulated a touch football match. Played in one half of the field, defenders who tagged the player with the ball were forced to run back to the goal posts and tackle a tackling bag before returning in a desperate bid to their team’s defensive line.
The sight of Marshall feeding some lovely balls and creating space for his runners only wetted the appetite for a very exciting season ahead for Wests Tigers.
