Genuine question, how the hell does a player get ready for NRL level footy without playing a game at all for over 12 months?

Particularly at 9?

Absolutely. Those injuries (he had multiple injuries that night) normally require weeks / even months in reggies to build up confidence and stamina.

A huge ask...but this is obviously such a different season.

Can't see Liddle coming close to matching Grant defensively which means some others will have to pick up the slack when he makes his return.

You mean a few of them should do what they are supposed to do.

He doesn’t. Run off the bench for a few games would be my guess to get some match fitness.

One thing people have forgotten is the form of Brooks and the style of hooker. Brooks can’t play with a dominating hooker who uses the ball. He struggled with Farah and Grant.

He was dominant with Goodinet, ET and Liddle for a short time. He likes shovel or run hookers not ones that read defence and use the ball accordingly. This is Brooks issue not Farah or Grant but it’s a big issue.

You just never know Brooks form may coincide with a lesser hooker at 9. He may play well with Liddle or Mbye.

I tend to think the same here, with Mbye more limited than Grant at DH game plan will surely focus more on the halves to get the players around the park.

Not having a go at you Tyga, but people seem to think Brooks hasnt had a good game this year. Prior to about 4 weeks ago, he was playing well and in a few of our wins was close to MoM.

Edit. - Going through the 321 threads v Dogs & Cowboys, plenty giving Brooks points. 5 weeks ago

That’s the issue your halfback has to be good all year. It’s a key position the pack has been the best we have had for numerous years. He has no excuses atm. I rate Brooks not a hater on him but he is running out of chances. He’s highly paid and not delivering.

Agreed that your halfback has to be consistent and Brooks hasnt been of late, no question. He is not highly paid though for a halfback. He is on $550K which is more than I earn but not a lot for NRL halfbacks and IMO representative of his standing in the game (maybe top 10). Needs to improve for us to be a real and consistent top 8 chance, no doubt but based on the discussion here you would think he is Ben Hunt.

Brooks is not Ben Hunt. He is not overpaid, and he HAS played well this year and it wasnt that long ago he was Dally M half of the year. I dont think people understand how hard it will be to replace a halfback fo that standing, particularly for that price.

Brooks is an asset and its up to Madge to get the best out of him.

Agree with a lot of this post, the biggest issue I have with Brooks at the moment that he is now running to much, I think everyone telling him he is at his best when he runs have gotten into his head and he is now overplaying that part of his game.

bro Brooks is not on $550K. That was his last deal which expired after the 2019 season. His salary is more likely in the $800-900K range.

Exactly, and it is the same with Benji his whole career, one good game, 2 average games and a shocker, that is his month of football, we can't carry a half like that, let alone 2
