Left the Wests Tigers flat coming into the start of the season?

Watching yesterday Wests Tigers while more physical, seemed to be well flat, lathargic and Buggered throughout the game..

I think Folkes is one of the best things to happen to us since '05….All the players have commented on how hard and intense this off season has been compared to others in the past.

Will the taper begin so they are primed for round 1?

Thoughts?

or are they being tapered for later in the season?
The last many seasons have been won by a team peaking in the last 10 rounds of the comp rather than the first 10.

I remember reading an interview with a top motocross athlete a while back who stated that he flogged himself so hard during the week not only to reach peak physical condition but to make race days the easy day by comparison, or the day you look forward to. Maybe Folkes has been developing this sort of mindset or maybe I'm reading too much into it.

It's not a bad point you raise Geo. The players reckon they are fitter and stronger than they've ever been, and Sheens reckons there has been a noticeable improvement from the Tigers in the gym over summer. Benji said in last week's RLW that he's never done so much running during a pre-season…Even the Dywer and Akeripa who are injured looked very fit and lean. I think the conditioning will help the Tigers as the season progresses.

The Tigers certainly came out flat against the Chooks...and they threw very little at them in attack I thought. No real set plays or fancy moves...they just seemed content to treat it as a trial run and nothing more.

I do hope they lift the intensity against the Sharks this week. If they play as lethargically as they did against the Roosters, well Sheens definitely has his work cut out for round 1 because Manly will definitely play it hard up the middle of the field.

Yeah we looked a bot disjointed, but in saying that we had a lot of new players on the field and were missing 3 top liners in Tuiaki, Payten and Gibbs. In attack, I think Lui is still getting used to the step up and will be given until Tuqiri slots in at fullback before any decision is made on his spot in the team. I'm pretty sure Moltzen will move to halfback if Tuqiri grabs the No.1\. Let's also remember it's the first hit out for the guys and we'll be better for it. Bring on the Sharkies!!

No I don't think so. I'm pretty sure that it will pay dividends towards the business end of the season when some teams start to flag at the end of games.IMO that's when the conditioning will tell, we should be able to keep up the pace and intensity for the full eighty and clock up a few points in the last quarter when the other team tires. Didn't see the game on Sunday so can't really comment, but I wouldn't read too much into it with regards to the fitness aspect of things.
