Has there ever been less excitement around the Tigers?

Sadly also reflected in the use of this forum - as of right as I type, only 5 users online, 2 registered and 3 guests!

It's interesting that so many long term fans are giving up now (I dropped my dummy about a month ago) considering probably 10 years of disappointment in the jv's history.

It's a combination of things I guess. The fact Balmain will possibly forfeit their ownership of the club next year is obviously destabilizing amongst other things.

It could be worse…..... we are not Parra.

If this board wakes up to itself and employs a CEO that has rugby league and very good business knowledge and starts to have the interest of the survival of the club at heart and not their own…then we may be a chance of surging forward on the front foot...for to long we have had a dis functional board interested only in their own interests and politics..now is the time to start being accountable to the sponsors, fans and members..the garbage has to be taken out and the place cleaned...we need

1\. JT to be accountable for the lack lustre performances..(no excuses for poor training etc)
2.the board must first and foremost pull all financials into perspective..
3.purchasing NRL quality players to balance with the young guns.
4.communicating to the members at every opportunity to let them know where their investment money has gone, and revenue coming in such as new sponsors..
5.start being a professionally run club at all levels as to promote confidence within that club..

These things are just my opinion, however being in volved in a corporate environment for years, you can't just hit and hope...you must have forward planning and good business management, this is what has been lacking for along time at this club and to many things taken for granted..it will take time and if this board is fair dinkum about the future of the club, this is a great platform to start from..they cant afford to leave a stone unturned..

I never ever thought I would say this, but if the WTs have another two years like this one and going nowhere then I will give up on them and follow another sport, what has been dished up to us the fans ,members and supporters is unacceptable in these economic and modern times..

I got slammed last year when i said maybe we should go to Perth. We could keep the name and attract money , sponsors and players. We could be a powerhouse. Its another thing whether people would support a Perth team i know.

It was probably out of frustration however I just saw as sinking in quick sand in Sydney. Can we ever be a power house in Sydney? Seriously the Souths, Roosters, Dogs seem to be only getting stronger finance wise. I dont want them to move but after 15 years of relative failure and mediocrity, then going back another decade of Blamaina and Wests in quick sand and you wonder if a sustained period of success (3-4 semi final appearances straight) is ever achievable.

Nothing this year has re energised me that we can get things moving quickly again. Like people have expressed really well some of the frustrations are because a number of things. Stagnation, the fact e have made change and still no tangible progress, grounds in limbo, no new signings. Coach talking boring talk. Players going through motions.

It can all change quickly in this game, however you gt the feeling it is more of this to come :deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse:

Supporting the WT is like a roller coaster, isn't it Eddy. A lot of highs and steep descents.

What highs? Compare the feeling of a Tigers win to the NSW win the other week. Now that was actual joy. Haven't felt like that about the Tigers in ages. This is no roller coaster. A roller coaster goes up and peaks.

@Tigermama said:
We must be damn crazy putting up with it, but wouldn't have it any other way.

Ummm… I'd have it EVERY other way....but we are apathetic fans (come on it's true). We feel that we are the ultimate blue collar team and should always be underdogs. This inferiority complex does not allow us to envisage ongoing success. So yes, we do put up with it and it is crazy. The Roosters, Broncos would never put up with it for even a few years. They demand success; their fans do, their management do, their coaches do. We don't. We just accept that we are forever in the first year of a 5 year plan. That's apathy.

But the hardest thing is trying to figure out what is going on within our club, and how to improve things. :supporter:

I honestly give up. On top of everything we have a "no marquee signings" policy for 2 years. Seriously WTF. We will be in the doldrums until we decide to get real and compete in the player market properly. Bringing up Juniors is cute but in order to get the fans back, start winning games and consistently recruit top players here we just need to sign 1-2 marquee players every year and build a culture of success. Until then we are bringing juniors into a culture of losing.

Lol, Cheer up Siro. For me the highs come when we put in the effort and get the win, especially against teams i dislike.
As for being apathetic??? I don't think so. We all want the club to be successful and we want our boys to be competitive week in and week out.
We the fans have been very vocal in showing our frustration, dissapointment, anger etc, through this forum and other media. Others have more patience and are willing to wait and see what pans out, but that doesn't mean they're indifferent. But either way, WT supporters are definitely not apathetic as far as I'm concerned.
As for wanting it every other way..well don't we all? We all love to have the cake and eat it too. But this is RL. full of ups and down.
I agree with you about needing to sign up some good experienced players. But when that will happen is anybody's guess. :sign: things will look a lot brighter if we get the win on Sunday

I liken it to sitting in a car that won't start on the side of the road.

You keep on trying to turn it over but it just won't click. Finally, the ignition engages and you get going (Souths game) only to find yourself once again sitting on the side of the road about 20m from where you were (Manly game).

 True but also Funny.

I was less excited in 2012….

I don't know about everyone else , but I thought we were on the verge of a premiership in 2012

We were premiership favourites at the start of the year, top 4 in round 14, and even in round 23 were 8th, and two points clear of 9th.

What an almighty monumental choke that was.

:frowning:

Such a shameful way to send off Gareth Ellis as well, those last couple of games against the Roosters and Melbourne were awful.

I remember it well. I had such high hopes UD…. :frowning:

I must say it is average Eddie. What frustrates me the most is the start to the year we had. We were playing like it was towards the end of the season. As the season has gone on we got worse. We must have some sort of Benjamin Button disease running through the club.

This year would make more sense to me had we not started so well early on.

Surely we are not getting worse.
JT keeps telling us it's not as bad as it looks, and we are heading in the right direction , as well as , we' re working on it( whatever that means) and gradually improving.

Surely you don't thing that Our esteemed Coach is being a bit loose with the truth ???????

Lol…Maybe just a touch GCT!

The longer you keep listening to the Taylor spiel the more you keep losing interest, players and fans alike.

True. The way he talks after every game is so dull no wonder people lose interest. every week its the same thing, apparently he is happy with mediocrity. You know what would create abit of interest? a press conference blowup every once in awhile. Heck even a 10,000 dollar fine here and there wouldn't hurt. Atleast the fans would get to see abit of passion shown from the coach. Anything is better then hearing how "we are improving" after every loss. There's nothing more disconnecting when the fans are all frustrated with the mediocrity and the coach comes out and says that every week.

I wish we had Robbie's Dream Team. We'd be unbeatable

The more we hear , the more it sounds like Fluff to appease the Board.

Come to think about it, I suppose it's not such a stupid way to start a three year term with a non achieving club.

Year 1: From day 1 Blame all visible and perceived problems on previous Admins, Coaches And the Club Mascot.
Make it clear from the start that we are not recruiting anyone until the second or
Third year.
Blame everything on previously back ended contracts. Sack, or let go just enough
Players to get supporters to believe that just maybe , we may be able to buy some
Players in second year with the money saved.
Make enough comments to convince every one that we don't care about results or
Semi finals, so that no matter how bad we go, expectations will always be low
Enough to ward off some of the criticism.
When we have one of our surprise Wins , (as we usually do at least a couple
Of times each Season) We can say"See it's not as bad as it looks" , "We are working
On it , It's slow , but we are getting there" , "they really dug deep tonight"
And various other Coachtalk slogans.
Being careful not to use "Rugby League is the winner tonight" Benny Elias
Whacked that one to death years ago.
It's surprising how fast that first season will go ( except for club supporters of
course).
At the seasons end, the Coach will have come through with flying colours, as one
Who, has lifted the team singlehanded from 10th place to 15th place. ???????
Anyway, our structures are now in place, our defence lessons have been a sucess.
we scored three tries in the last six games,
But they were great tries, with at least two people handling the ball in each one
Watch us go next year!!!!!!

Year two: season start : From The Coach
It's really disapointing that our previously mentioned Cap problems are really a lot Worse than first thought, so those Five internatials that we had earmarked for this year are
Unable to be signed. ( bugger those previous Admins , Coaches , and Mascots )
" However its not really as bad as it looks" , "we have put in over the off season ",
And, As Some players had complained about an unbalanced game plan and training methods,
We have changed our approach , and this year we are not going to worry about defence , instead we will be putting in New. … (wait for it). ....STRUCTURES for our
Attack Yes , this year we will be going all out in ATTACK.
If we score more points than them , we will win every game.
BUT.........as this is a sharp departure from our plans last year, we are not
Interested in the
Top Eight or even winning games . Until we get this attack thing working well and
Going in The right direction, we will have to ask our supporters for their patience,
Yes, just like last year!!!!
By round 23 this year we will be able to unveil some of the best attacking football
Ever seen in this Club
When the Boys showed me this Attacking stuff, I was really impressed.
Wait until the other clubs find out about it , it's amazing
The Board, the supporters and the Sponsors will love me.
Must go now , I've got to put the witches hats out for training.

The other good news is , that if this doesn't work out, then next year we'll
Start a five year REBUILDING PLAN that I've got up my sleeve. I'm just working on
New STRUCTURES for that one now . Just in case

GCT, Your post is Pure Gold..

Yeah…I think I'll start going for Parra and tip the opposition every week...

BTW Batboy I think you have your dates mixed up ..We didn't make the 8 in '09..thanks again Parra...In '11 we lost to the Warriors 2 games short of the GF..I remember that cause Farah/Benji ran it on the last instead of kicking deep nek minnit..Lote drops a bomb,...

Oh I remember it all so well too, as it all took place right in front of where I was sitting, just past the halfway mark. Like an accident in slow motion you could hear me all around the ground yelling NOOOOOO!! when they ran it on the last - right at that moment I knew the Warriors would score again. Thanks for the reminder Geo :bawling

:bawling i know how you feel Flip! I tried hard to erase that from my memory 😢

I was also involved in running several businesses as the General Manager over a period of more than twenty years. Your cry for better planning and governance from the Board and the Management is to be applauded, but there are a couple of problems in achieving these improvements.

The position at the 19th March, 2014, according to Wests Tigers was:-

**Wests Tigers is a joint-venture between Balmain Tigers Rugby League Football Club (Balmain Tigers) and Western Suburbs Rugby League Football Group (Wests Group), with funding shortfalls historically covered with a 50/50 split between the two shareholders. Due to a range of circumstances for the past three seasons this shareholder funding has not occurred to a sufficient level.\
\
On the basis of this Wests Tigers sought assistance, direction and leadership from the NRL, which over time has evolved into a complete governance and financial reform of Wests Tigers.\
\
It became clear that the financial position of Wests Tigers could not be stabilised without governance reform, a process which has been going on for the past six months and is drawing to a conclusion. The result of this governance reform will be a change in Wests Tigers’ structure at board level, with two representatives from Wests Group, two from Balmain Tigers and three Independent Directors. Representation by the shareholders on the reformed board is subject to meeting shareholder funding obligations.**

Wests Tigers Board is accountable to the Wests Group, Balmain Tigers and the NRL, as they have invested money on the joint-venture. This may change at the 19th March next year, if Balmain default on their loan from the NRL. While the Board needs to have the Wests Tigers operation appeal to sponsor, fans and members (season ticket holders) to be successful, they do NOT have to be accountable to them.

While I agree with four of your points, it would not be prudent to communicate to the members at every opportunity to let them know where their investment money has gone and revenue coming in such as new sponsors, because the members are NOT share holders and have no investment money. Much of this financial information would be considered to be confidential and should not be widely communicated to people not part of the business or employees, who do not require the information to do their job..

HAHA!! - I love when someone buys a $50 membership and thinks they own the club because they're "Investing" in it's day to day operations…

YOU ARE A CUSTOMER - Nothing more, Nothing less....

Would like me asking to see McDonalds P&L's cos I bought a cheeseburger...
