Chammas saying on inside the NRL, not sure on exact figure but would be in the $400k-$500k bracket.

Sowards opinion is Jackson coming to play in the halves and he (Soward) wouldn't be moving AD from 5/8.

If those numbers are accurate this is an intense failure of a signing. Disgusting numbers honestly. Jackson Hastings has never been an NRL starter and has done nothing to indicate he should be on that type of money. I have no real argument to suggest that he would produce any greater than Billy Walters, Jock Madden or even Zach Docker-Clay honestly. That has to be made up surely. I would value him half that. Unless they're saying $400-500k on two years with a team option.

The man of steel won't come here to get paid $200k.... halfbacks are at a premium too. $400k seems about right, we've got plenty of cap space it'll be a short deal don't stress about it

There are so many factors to consider and one that is far more important than people realise is what continuing to make signings like this says about our club. If we keep picking up players with bad reputations who are unwanted elsewhere or players who are perceived that way perception becomes reality and it just affirms what people think about us.

Just wait, once this signing is made it won't be "Tigers land coup signing star from ESL" it will be "Desperate Tigers throw NRL lifeline to outcast badboy". And no matter what anyone thinks that stuff affects us at every level. Then the pressure is on Jackson to prove that wrong because if he is even remotely unsuccessful it'll be mocked relentlessly much like our signing of BJ Leilua or James Roberts is being. And it all contributes to all and sundry from the media, to fans, to other players considering our club a desperate joke.

This to me was the post of the day. Apparently we were frontrunners for his signature. More like we were the only runners for his signature. That some of our supporters seems satisfied with his signature is a good indication of how low expectations are at WTs. We need NRL signings of far higher standard than Hastings. The number of squaddies on the forum yesterday morning to monitor the reaction and the PR promotion accompanying the signing is an indication to me of how nervous some in the WTs are about Hastings. Based on his history, that is warranted.

Look at the ladder! the supporters you say have low expectations are the ones that have had a gut full of the loser mentality that is this organisation ..this is a left field signing a signing that actually puts pressure on some to perform that is a good thing .

Some are more interested in watching us lose as long as it's their favourite players.

MOre interested than what? More interested than buying a reject that not a single club wanted in the NRL who then has spent 4 years "honing" his skills and defence in a comp below NSW Cup? Thats what we should be interested in? We should be excited about that?

Josh Hodgson, George Williams and Luke Bateman did okay here.

Had they all previously failed at NRL level?

It's not about what gets you "excited". See how he goes, and if he fails miserably then you can bag the club.

Thats surely the ticket out of mediocrity.

I think this signing will make us as fans nostalgic for Braith anasta and Moses Mbye.

The thing i'm confused by is that we have Mbye already on the books who appears to serve the ball playing utility role very well (and played well there on the weekend). Now we're going to pay presumably half his salary to play elsewhere next year, whilst signing someone to play the exact same role.

Hastings is a massive upgrade ability wise on Mbye and probably half the cost.

I would hope he is a LOT less than half the price. On what basis do you think he is an upgrade on Mbye ability wise?

If he can walk and talk at the same time then he’s an upgrade on Mbye ability wise!

I swear people dont watch our games.

welcome Jackson. excited to see what he brings down our middle corridor if the rumours about him playing 13 are true. if we get this right it could transform our attack.

There is nothing wrong with Mbye's ability. If you watched on Saturday you could see that our team improved when he came on. He has been injured and misused since Madge took over, but he's not a bad player.

How do you think this would work for 2022?

1. Laurie
2. Nofoaluma
3. Kepaoa
4. Douiehi
5. Naden
6. Brooks
7. Hastings

Nup, he'll be a bench utility IMO. Doueihi is developing nicely at 6 and I don't see him moving to the centres.

Tigers fans: Anyone who tolerates Luke Brooks in first grade is part of the problem and accepting **mediocrity**.

Also Tigers fans: the answer is a player who was kicked out of 2 clubs in 3 years and couldnt get a Contract in the NRL and has spent the last 4 years in a substandard competition....thats what will lift us from mediocrity.

Welcome Jackson.

I am thrilled by the signing. He is a better player than many realise. What he did at Salford was remarkable.

A lot of people seem to be over the top in their criticism of Super League, often without ever watching it. Our best player since the 2005 squad came from the Super League.

I don't care in the slightest if he's a little bit arrogant (which I think is exaggerated to begin with). Our team needs arrogance. It needs a talker. It needs players who back themselves.

I agree. Show me a half back that isn't arrogant and I'll show you ........ Luke Brooks.

Everybody deserves a second chance - I feel this signing will tick the box for us.
Besides history tells me that Hastings is a battle waiting to happen.
Bring it Jackson.

And in terms of 'second chances', getting into a blue with DCE is hardly up there with some of the stuff other footy players have got up to prior to their second/third/fourth chances. It's a non issue as far as I'm concerned.

Absolutely agree. Doueihi reminds me so much of Jack Wighton. Could probably play centre well but is such a waste of talent out wide where he wouldn’t get his hands on the ball much

My god he hasn't even played a single game for us, cheer up! You're acting like this signing will be the end of the world 😂 he's going to play a bench role and put pressure on the halves. We've signed 100 worse players than him.

Even if he doesn't perform it's not that bad for us, give the bloke a chance at least golly... I don't think anyone thinks he'll make us a top 8 team but he could be a good signing.

Even if he carves up you'll probably still say he was a bad signing lol

Taken from Wigan Warriors website regarding Hastings leaving 2022.

Wigan Warriors executive director Chris Radlinski said of Hastings;
During my conversation, Jackson was incredibly humble and said he feels honoured to have represented the Club. I could see it in his eyes that he wants to leave Wigan a winner.

“We have never doubted his commitment as a Rugby League player. He brings an outstanding attitude to training every day and plays his heart out every week on the playing field.

“Wests Tigers are getting a player who is deeply motivated to succeed and will drive the rest of the playing squad.

Hastings to leave Wigan

19 April 2021
Wigan Warriors can confirm that Jackson Hastings will leave the Club at the end of the 2021 season.

Hastings will join NRL side Wests Tigers for 2022 and 2023.

Wigan Warriors executive director, Kris Radlinski, said: “Jackson asked to see me on Sunday morning where he informed me that he has agreed a two-year deal in the NRL and will leave at the end of 2021 when his contract expires.

“There has been much speculation about an immediate exit, but I have had written assurances from his management team and through my relationship with Michael Maguire, 2021 was never an option.

“During my conversation, Jackson was incredibly humble and said he feels honoured to have represented the Club. I could see it in his eyes that he wants to leave Wigan a winner.

“We have never doubted his commitment as a Rugby League player. He brings an outstanding attitude to training every day and plays his heart out every week on the playing field.

“Wests Tigers are getting a player who is deeply motivated to succeed and will drive the rest of the playing squad.”

Hastings said: “I am extremely grateful to Ian Lenagan and Kris Radlinski and Adrian Lam to represent this great Club.

“Over the last 15 months I’ve really appreciated being part of such an historic place and the expectations that come along with that.

“Kris and I have spoken at length about what the future holds. Having such a great relationship with him, the door is open if an opportunity arises in the future.

“I’m really grateful to all the fans for putting up with the rumours and speculation. I have given everything I have to the jersey and I will continue to do that for the rest of this year. I am an extremely driven individual that’s super committed to bringing success to Wigan in 2021.

“Now this is out of the way, I just want to get on with playing Rugby League. I am solely focused on 2021 and the goal we have as a Club for this year.

“Once again, I would like to say thank you to the Wigan fans for the constant support and I can’t wait to see them all back in the stands.”

All of this suggests we are receiving a mature minded version of Jackson, one with a dedicated work ethic and will to succeed.

Sounds like the same spin we heard from James Roberts and BJ

Lets be honest Jackson never had the same off field issues as Roberts and didn't burn through 5 or 6 NRL Clubs and BJ has never shown glimpses of maturity on the field.

Are you aware of the concept of opportunity cost?

How many halves/utilities can we carry in the 30? Signing Jackson Hastings is not a cost free signing, it costs us the oportunity to sign a better half.

Nope but remember he got in a fight with DCE 4 years ago! That means he's a horrible person and he will bring our entire club to its knees!

He's been loved overseas at Wigan and Salford by fans and team mates alike. No drama there at all.

Walters is going, Mbye seems very likely to go, that leaves us with Brooks, Doueihi, Madden and Hastings for next year. I think you'll find pretty much ever decent club has two decent backups for their halves in their squad... he will probably play in the middle of the field too. Want us to have only one backup for our halves/hooker instead?

EXACTLY and that sums up the difference.

The reason that JTJ burned through 5 or 6 clubs is because his talent and ability was such that club after club were willing to take that risk for the potential reward (including us but we might be at the wrong end of the timeline).

What do you think is the reason that after he burned through Roosters and Manly, he couldnt get a NRL contract?
