The naysayers obviously haven’t even been bothered to even take a look into how much Jackson Hastings has changed his life around since he left Australia.

In my book any person that can openly admit their faults/weaknesses and most importantly their passed mistakes and indiscretions and they grow and mature from that point, deserves a second chance.

And especially when he has the backing of the people in the know who have employed him over the years in the Super League have nothing but glowing references on the man and his character.

What a sad world we live in to be judging people on what they did when they were wet behind the ears.

Spot on.

Really can’t fault this signing. I’ve no bias as some on here have. I’ve played footy with many tossers but most were very serviceable. I don’t think on form he’s expected to take the 7 merely be a 14. If he plays positive and is infectious as pommy press says he definitely won’t hurt. 2 years is a very safe contract if goes well great but if he’s on the outer after a year it won’t be a problem to palm him off to ESL as he’s proven over there

Tigerlily,

If we're the only NRL club interested, the remainder aren't so he has been judged. It appears they don't share our view. Considering all but one are above us on the table, who has made the correct decision?

I’d say people need to get over the fact the kid stuffed up.

Jackson has admitted his short falls his taken the hits and taken the opportunity given to him in the UK with both hand, his moved on and so should they.

I don't find much wrong with Hastings attitude, he wanted to smack DCE in the face, not much wrong with that, as a lot on here wish they could do the same.

Hastings is an astute pick up...because theres absolutely no-one else available as a proven playmaker/organiser who is available AND wld want to come to our club
Plus at 95kgs he can play 13 or 7,so the future may or may not include Brooks
ATM,we just have to work way too hard for our points
Think he'll be one of Madges better ones..and he cant come soon enough!

Yeah agree, would love to see him play 13 for us. we'd have some midfield strike power!!

I have read right through this thread and there are people who are deadset against the signing based on his previous NRL stints...
There are plenty who support the signing based on his playing ability and skills he has to offer...

My opinion is ....we have signed him,he has a certain skillset that can be quite useful for us moving forward and I welcome that...
Most of all he is now going to be in the WTs team/squad and I will 100 percent support him while with us as I do our WHOLE team including the players most on here constantly moan and groan about...
We are in a hole that Madge and Hartigan are trying to dig us out of...I support them and can see they are doing whats right for the club and team first and foremost...constantly being critical of the clubs every move or signing doesnt help one bit, lets face it we cant do anything once the club has made a decision...
Over the years there have been poor signings BUT,when they were signed they were playing well and the signings were justified (Adam Blair)brilliant in the storm system, but horrible once out of that system..
For the reasonable,Corey Thompson came from ESL and was an honest hard worker without being a particularly brilliant player....

Lets give Jacko a shot at proving he can provide something good for our team, with the younger ones and the experienced players to develop over the next couple of years and bring us out of the no finals doldrums once and for all....

If its true we got Hastings for $400-$450k p.a. its a bargain considering Chad Townsend is getting $660k p.a. from the Cows.

He has proven in the past that he cant handle the limelight in Sydney and the media spotlight at all times.Things are very different in the sokka mad UK where he is basically a nobody and not worth any attention.
If he hasnt changed 180 degrees then his personal failures will once again be under constant scrutiny. There is no place to hide in Sydney

Brooks fan boys going into meltdown with this signing lol.
Don’t worry, if Brooks is as good as you all say he’ll fight for his spot and Hastings will play 14.

I'm probably viewed as a Brooks fan boy because I think he has been good this season based watching him play. I honestly don't think many of his haters watch the game.

I'm not sold on this signing but I'm extremely happy we have another playmaker option to put pressure on Brooks/AD/Mbye/Walters.

You are 100% correct in that the best players will make the team.

I’ve watched all of his games pretty much.
I’m not a hater, I wish he was awesome, but Brooks has had years of chances and just isn’t anywhere good enough. I didn’t hate Fitzhenry either, or Esan Marsters or Jennings. Some people loved them. Each to their own....I just preferred that they played elsewhere.
But I don’t understand how a rational observer of the game can say Brooks has been good this season.
Sorry to digress, don’t want to make this thread about Brooks.

Probably that was an issue, his lack of respect for his captain. Regardless of his personal feelings it is a team game and he should be part of that team. Be a team player or hit the road.

I've watched him and he has been good. Very few mistakes. Making his tackles. He has had a good kicking and passing game. He is doing his job reasonably well. Our problem has not been Brooks or close to it.

Your comment sort of sums up the Brooks hate. It's always couched in he has had years of failure.

It's not his fault the team has lost for many years. A good example is Benji. There were people stating Benji was the reason we lost last year and now he is gone we are going to start winning. Of course this wasn't true same as the Brooks hate.

I sort of understand what you are stating in that Brooks isn't really that good. If we can do better and upgrade him we should. If Hastings is that player great.

The biggest thing I see with peoples opinion on brooks that they think he should be able to win all the games by himself because he’s the halfback. But in reality even dce can’t do it at manly with out turbo. Cronk had slater and smith then teddy and keary. All with a good pack and solid D.Cleary the same.
If our D improves to that standard I think brooks can do a job for us. Douehi seems to be adding value and Laurie developing so good times ahead if our D can be sorted

Classic wests tigers forum!

I bet they didn't watch the full highlights either before down voting.
I wish it was a requirement of forum members to give reasoning behind disliking a post or at least remove people's anonymity.

Why? Who cares? It’s an Internet forum. (Wasn’t me, I don’t downvote)

Not arguing against it, just curious what has changed in the two years he has been gone. Two years ago no CEO of any club, ANY CLUB, would touch him with a 10 foot pole as he was considered damaged goods. The fact that we will be his 6th club in eight seasons kind of backs that up.
I'm all for giving a bloke a second chance, but are we now "the last chance saloon" for the NRL's problem children , BJ, JTJ, Zane and now Hastings. Just curious, since Potter every coach and admin has talked about a positive culture and growing our stars, how does that stack up with buying problems.

Well 2 years ago nobody wanted to sign Ryan Papenhuyzen, 2 years ago Dragons had no idea what to do with Matt Dufty, 2 years ago Broncos signed arguably the most in-demand young coach going around and Souths had to then sign his predecessor. 2 years ago Ryan Matterson was in career-best form at the Tigers and Luke Brooks was reigning Dally M halfback of the year.

So I'd say a lot has changed in two year and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he's not a knob any more.

If you punch DCE in the face you deserve a medal ..no a Knighthood..

Welcome Sir Hastings..

It's "Sir Jackson" isn't it? You receive the title upon your first name, a la "Sir Elton" or "Sir Ian"?

This is 100% right. He is 25 years old of course he has grown up in the last 2 years. The kids attitude forced him to go overseas to continue his career that kind of impact would have anyone adjusting there behaviour. Obviously this signing has seen differently by some by let’s judge him on what he does now not what he did in the past.

It's a discussion forum, some people seem more content to use the dislike button than discuss the post like Siro's post above.
I've never down voted either, I'd rather tell the person why I disagree with them.
