Welcome Jackson.

I am thrilled by the signing. He is a better player than many realise. What he did at Salford was remarkable.

A lot of people seem to be over the top in their criticism of Super League, often without ever watching it. Our best player since the 2005 squad came from the Super League.

I don't care in the slightest if he's a little bit arrogant (which I think is exaggerated to begin with). Our team needs arrogance. It needs a talker. It needs players who back themselves.

The money from Leilua's contract and what we're going to pay for Hastings would make a nice sum to make offers to one or two highly rated Broncos juniors. We've had great success with our last foray.

We're pretty set for cash next year even aside from that aren't we? It feels like forever that we've been talking about 2022 as our big year in terms of a free salary cap.

We've had great success with Simpkin. Why not repeat what works?

Blore, Stefano, Laurie, Simpkin, Doueihi etc, blokes from strong systems are the way to go imo

Not washed up has beens / never has beens who have flirted with 5 clubs in 6 years

Welcome to the club Jackson.

I hope he goes well regardless of what position he plays, because I’m getting bored of seeing our team finish in the bottom 8, constantly getting smashed by dud ref calls and reading the same comments day in day out about how bad one player is or how good another is in a team sport that requires an entire team to perform at at least 80% or more to win consistently.

This signing will not fix any of that. A player who was let go from 2 NRL clubs in 3 years. You (and I) are sick of all the things you listed. I am sick of the Tigers buy players NOONE else wants, gambling that some how they have snuck under the nose of everyone else to pick up a diamond from the rough.

The thing i'm confused by is that we have Mbye already on the books who appears to serve the ball playing utility role very well (and played well there on the weekend). Now we're going to pay presumably half his salary to play elsewhere next year, whilst signing someone to play the exact same role.

Hastings is a massive upgrade ability wise on Mbye and probably half the cost.

So your suggestion is throw money at an 18 year and wait until they are ready for top grade? We could go after some Broncos juniors still. Joey won’t be here next year the way things are going so we’ll have that cash anyway.

Joey's been here for two years and in the meantime Talau and Kepaoa have undeservedly copped a hammering as they are the players having to bridge the gap between NSW Cup and NRL.

Simpkin has been an outstanding success. 2 years and has performed well considering Covid.

If those numbers are accurate this is an intense failure of a signing. Disgusting numbers honestly. Jackson Hastings has never been an NRL starter and has done nothing to indicate he should be on that type of money. I have no real argument to suggest that he would produce any greater than Billy Walters, Jock Madden or even Zach Docker-Clay honestly. That has to be made up surely. I would value him half that. Unless they're saying $400-500k on two years with a team option.

The man of steel won't come here to get paid $200k.... halfbacks are at a premium too. $400k seems about right, we've got plenty of cap space it'll be a short deal don't stress about it

There are so many factors to consider and one that is far more important than people realise is what continuing to make signings like this says about our club. If we keep picking up players with bad reputations who are unwanted elsewhere or players who are perceived that way perception becomes reality and it just affirms what people think about us.

Just wait, once this signing is made it won't be "Tigers land coup signing star from ESL" it will be "Desperate Tigers throw NRL lifeline to outcast badboy". And no matter what anyone thinks that stuff affects us at every level. Then the pressure is on Jackson to prove that wrong because if he is even remotely unsuccessful it'll be mocked relentlessly much like our signing of BJ Leilua or James Roberts is being. And it all contributes to all and sundry from the media, to fans, to other players considering our club a desperate joke.

This to me was the post of the day. Apparently we were frontrunners for his signature. More like we were the only runners for his signature. That some of our supporters seems satisfied with his signature is a good indication of how low expectations are at WTs. We need NRL signings of far higher standard than Hastings. The number of squaddies on the forum yesterday morning to monitor the reaction and the PR promotion accompanying the signing is an indication to me of how nervous some in the WTs are about Hastings. Based on his history, that is warranted.

Look at the ladder! the supporters you say have low expectations are the ones that have had a gut full of the loser mentality that is this organisation ..this is a left field signing a signing that actually puts pressure on some to perform that is a good thing .

Hastings to leave Wigan

19 April 2021
Wigan Warriors can confirm that Jackson Hastings will leave the Club at the end of the 2021 season.

Hastings will join NRL side Wests Tigers for 2022 and 2023.

Wigan Warriors executive director, Kris Radlinski, said: “Jackson asked to see me on Sunday morning where he informed me that he has agreed a two-year deal in the NRL and will leave at the end of 2021 when his contract expires.

“There has been much speculation about an immediate exit, but I have had written assurances from his management team and through my relationship with Michael Maguire, 2021 was never an option.

“During my conversation, Jackson was incredibly humble and said he feels honoured to have represented the Club. I could see it in his eyes that he wants to leave Wigan a winner.

“We have never doubted his commitment as a Rugby League player. He brings an outstanding attitude to training every day and plays his heart out every week on the playing field.

“Wests Tigers are getting a player who is deeply motivated to succeed and will drive the rest of the playing squad.”

Hastings said: “I am extremely grateful to Ian Lenagan and Kris Radlinski and Adrian Lam to represent this great Club.

“Over the last 15 months I’ve really appreciated being part of such an historic place and the expectations that come along with that.

“Kris and I have spoken at length about what the future holds. Having such a great relationship with him, the door is open if an opportunity arises in the future.

“I’m really grateful to all the fans for putting up with the rumours and speculation. I have given everything I have to the jersey and I will continue to do that for the rest of this year. I am an extremely driven individual that’s super committed to bringing success to Wigan in 2021.

“Now this is out of the way, I just want to get on with playing Rugby League. I am solely focused on 2021 and the goal we have as a Club for this year.

“Once again, I would like to say thank you to the Wigan fans for the constant support and I can’t wait to see them all back in the stands.”

All of this suggests we are receiving a mature minded version of Jackson, one with a dedicated work ethic and will to succeed.

I'm all for giving a bloke a second chance, but are we now "the last chance saloon" for the NRL's problem children , BJ, JTJ, Zane and now Hastings. Just curious, since Potter every coach and admin has talked about a positive culture and growing our stars, how does that stack up with buying problems.

On what basis do you make that statement? Hastings has had how many clubs and less than 50 games and we're possibly his only takers. Mbye's issue is contract amount not ability and he is an articulate man bro.

Yes yes yes.....he has changed....it will be different this time.
Welcome to the club Jackson, us Tigers fans are well worn into this pattern now.

Don't really see much downside to this signing. worst case scenario is we get a replacement for Mbye in the utility role for much cheaper.

Realistically though we'll be getting competition for Brooks for the number 7 jersey, something we don't have today.

A lot can change in a few years, I look back at the person I was in my early 20s and I wouldn't have given me a job so I can relate to no NRL clubs at the time wanting to take a gamble on him. Sometimes it takes a long hard look in the mirror and time away from the spotlight to realize there's an issue and a good reason why no one wants you in their organization.

He's only played for 4 clubs too (Roosters, Manly, Salford and Wigan). From all reports he's been nothing short of an absolute professional in his time at both UK clubs and has matured greatly. If he brings that level of maturity and professionalism to the Tigers then we are in for something special.

interesting Jamie swards take on Hastings hr seems to think Hastings to 7 Doubie 6 and Luke Brooks as 14
I guess if we dont lose Mmbye he takes a centre spot
1. Laurie
2. Nofo
3. Roberts
4. Mmbye
5. Talau ? Oates ?
6. Douhie
7. Brooks / Hastings
14. Brooks or Hastings
leaves Liddle as the unsigned odd man out

Personally I'm gonna judge him on how he actually goes for us on the field... not worried about things from 3 years ago. As for on field performances he's been playing very well lately.

I really don't see much downside to the signing he won't be on massive coin and will provide good depth and cover while pushing for a starting spot. He's only 25 as well, not some 'washed up' player like some are saying.

Josh Hodgson, George Williams and Luke Bateman did okay here.

It's not about what gets you "excited". See how he goes, and if he fails miserably then you can bag the club.
