Best way to look at this Signing.

- Would you prefer Mybe at full freight

OR

- Hastings + Funding Mybe to play elsewhere

Hasting's has a higher ceiling AND can cover 7

(13-14 is where he's been signed to play)

Do you realise that your question is....Would you have Mbye for $900K or would you have Hastings for $900K?

Yeh and tbh it is absolutely a coin toss, but Moses is not a bad player - we signed a bad contract.

If the choice is:

Mbye playing elsewhere, $100k + and Hastings.

Then fair enough.

Yes. For next that is and Hastings is a better player than Mybe

This is a fair point but it's also a realistic one. Hastings is going to put pressure onto Brooks. I reckon Doueihi is the better half now.

I reckon Brooks has been good but only because he isn't stuffing up and he is doing his job. I don't expect him to be a great half.

We should be aiming to be a top 4 team.

Team running second last no finals again this season same 7 for 150 games with no success ..what ever position Hastings has been signed for the guy can play 7 the pressure is on at last !

It as simple as that.

Every player in the team should be under pressure to hold their form and do their job. The club felt we didnt have someone to do that to Luke Brooks, enter Hastings.

Might be the making of Luke Brooks.

Interesting that Brooks has been playing well but you choose to ignore it.

I did not choose to ignore that. I completely disagree.

He has been playing 'ok', thats about it.

He does nothing when we actually need him, His confidence is shot and his form is declining. Doueihi is taking on a more senior role accordingly.

Not making mistakes because the other half is dealing with the pressure you cant is not playing well.

As I wrote in the other thread, Brooks may be. playing to instructions from Maguire. He created space for the Laurie try and his try assists record is very good. He has played well.

We've signed him so I'm on board. Could be the ball playing lock we need, a solid bodied 14 or a quality option for the halves.

Like most kids, he seems to have matured and the England move was probably great for him. I see more upside than downside but I'd prefer we hang onto Mbye and see how it goes. We could always release Moses part way through next year if he has a suitor and Hastings is performing.

Do you back the odds-on favourite for the ‘place’ when you go to the races?

Brooks fan boys going into meltdown with this signing lol.
Don’t worry, if Brooks is as good as you all say he’ll fight for his spot and Hastings will play 14.

I'm probably viewed as a Brooks fan boy because I think he has been good this season based watching him play. I honestly don't think many of his haters watch the game.

I'm not sold on this signing but I'm extremely happy we have another playmaker option to put pressure on Brooks/AD/Mbye/Walters.

You are 100% correct in that the best players will make the team.

I’ve watched all of his games pretty much.
I’m not a hater, I wish he was awesome, but Brooks has had years of chances and just isn’t anywhere good enough. I didn’t hate Fitzhenry either, or Esan Marsters or Jennings. Some people loved them. Each to their own....I just preferred that they played elsewhere.
But I don’t understand how a rational observer of the game can say Brooks has been good this season.
Sorry to digress, don’t want to make this thread about Brooks.

I think he’s been pretty good and 1000% better than last season.

I know everyone here is passionate but feel there’s a lack of understanding of what Brooks’ role is at times. It changes week to week based on Madge’s opponent specific game plan.

For instance I’ve seen plenty of people bagging Brooks constant stream of bombs last week. That’s not a Brooks decision on the run, it’s a clear team tactic and the main reason we had Souths starting their sets 10 metres out most of the game. We’re not talented enough to go toe to toe and It was a brilliant game plan by Madge and carried out perfectly by Brooks.

I actually think Brooks is a very selfless half that follows game plans to a tee, perhaps to his detriment at times. It could definitely be argued he should stray away from the plan at times and rely on some off the cuff skills.

He cops a barrage of abuse and I’ve never once seen him throw anyone else under the bus. He is a quality bloke.

The naysayers obviously haven’t even been bothered to even take a look into how much Jackson Hastings has changed his life around since he left Australia.

In my book any person that can openly admit their faults/weaknesses and most importantly their passed mistakes and indiscretions and they grow and mature from that point, deserves a second chance.

And especially when he has the backing of the people in the know who have employed him over the years in the Super League have nothing but glowing references on the man and his character.

What a sad world we live in to be judging people on what they did when they were wet behind the ears.

Tigerlily,

If we're the only NRL club interested, the remainder aren't so he has been judged. It appears they don't share our view. Considering all but one are above us on the table, who has made the correct decision?

I’d say people need to get over the fact the kid stuffed up.

Jackson has admitted his short falls his taken the hits and taken the opportunity given to him in the UK with both hand, his moved on and so should they.

I don't find much wrong with Hastings attitude, he wanted to smack DCE in the face, not much wrong with that, as a lot on here wish they could do the same.

Probably that was an issue, his lack of respect for his captain. Regardless of his personal feelings it is a team game and he should be part of that team. Be a team player or hit the road.

That is near the point I wanted to make. He has useful skills and if he brings an attitude with him that places him at odds with others in the team, or is otherwise divisive, that's up to Maguire to manage.
If his skills displace one of the halves then so be it, but if his bag is to undermine others bye bye.

The Wigan boss couldn’t have spoken more highly of him and their fans agree.
On the other side of the coin you have people on here who don’t really know him (or say they went to school with him God knows how many years ago) saying what a mongrel he is and how on earth would we want ‘someone like him’.
Well, I want to give ‘someone like him’ a go because he is talented, plays his guts out and hates losing ... every week.
He won’t be on massive coin so what’s to lose?
Everyone putting crap on him getting the Man of Steel are ridiculous ... he was voted the BEST player in Super League.
Would they prefer if he was voted the worst?
Also nobody seems to mention he is also an international having made the Great Britain team.
Welcome to the Tigers Jackson.

Radlinski was a pretty good footballer himself

I'm not sure about this signing.....was a bit of a knob when he left but appears to have turned himself around in a big way.

if he creates good competition for spots and improves out club it can only be a good thing. fingers crossed

and didn't he punch out cherry-evans??? champion!!!!

Well when the Tigers are $1.12 favourites you realize there is a NTD for 2nd place

All Ive heard for the last 5 years and Brooks 150 games is that its "his team" he can be the star we have been waiting to take us to the finals....

If Jackson puts pressure on Brooks to keep his spot, then finally Brooks may show us his true potential and follow Maguires game plans and LEAD this team to the finals arena...

surely anyone with football smarts can see what is developing..

You’re right TT.
Anyone who thinks Hastings won’t have the 7 jersey in his sights is kidding themselves.
Even Brooks knows the threat, hence him saying he’s not going anywhere.
Be an interesting start to the year next season.

Hastings to leave Wigan

19 April 2021
Wigan Warriors can confirm that Jackson Hastings will leave the Club at the end of the 2021 season.

Hastings will join NRL side Wests Tigers for 2022 and 2023.

Wigan Warriors executive director, Kris Radlinski, said: “Jackson asked to see me on Sunday morning where he informed me that he has agreed a two-year deal in the NRL and will leave at the end of 2021 when his contract expires.

“There has been much speculation about an immediate exit, but I have had written assurances from his management team and through my relationship with Michael Maguire, 2021 was never an option.

“During my conversation, Jackson was incredibly humble and said he feels honoured to have represented the Club. I could see it in his eyes that he wants to leave Wigan a winner.

“We have never doubted his commitment as a Rugby League player. He brings an outstanding attitude to training every day and plays his heart out every week on the playing field.

“Wests Tigers are getting a player who is deeply motivated to succeed and will drive the rest of the playing squad.”

Hastings said: “I am extremely grateful to Ian Lenagan and Kris Radlinski and Adrian Lam to represent this great Club.

“Over the last 15 months I’ve really appreciated being part of such an historic place and the expectations that come along with that.

“Kris and I have spoken at length about what the future holds. Having such a great relationship with him, the door is open if an opportunity arises in the future.

“I’m really grateful to all the fans for putting up with the rumours and speculation. I have given everything I have to the jersey and I will continue to do that for the rest of this year. I am an extremely driven individual that’s super committed to bringing success to Wigan in 2021.

“Now this is out of the way, I just want to get on with playing Rugby League. I am solely focused on 2021 and the goal we have as a Club for this year.

“Once again, I would like to say thank you to the Wigan fans for the constant support and I can’t wait to see them all back in the stands.”

All of this suggests we are receiving a mature minded version of Jackson, one with a dedicated work ethic and will to succeed.

Yes yes yes.....he has changed....it will be different this time.
Welcome to the club Jackson, us Tigers fans are well worn into this pattern now.

Have you ever considered what it would have been like playing with DCE and Dylan Walker
Maybe he told them what he thinks of them and they couldn't handle it
As far as the Roosters go
They have let many a player go
If they don't want you, your gone
Playing for a number of teams doesn't make you a bad player
Look at our own Pat Richards
Brett Hodgson
JAC
Marty Taupau
Matterson
How many teams a player plays for is irrelevant on their playing ability
And I wouldn't listen to anything DCE said or Dylan Walker
Then you have a coach like Nathan Brown who slaps Trent Barrett
And you are worried about Hastings
Hastings looks like a good family man which is more then I can say about many other nrl players
He might have rubbed a few players up but what nrl player hasn't
The only thing we should be concerned about is his playing ability and nothing else
And that is a little unknown at this point
We know he can play but how good back in the Nrl

Jackson is a quality player. Sure he has been playing ESL which is a step below NRL but he has he has been craving it up. He has clearly grown as a person and has a better attitude these days. I wouldn’t hire myself based on how I acted when I was 17 or 18. The club has been sensible and only offered a 2 year deal. It’s not a game breaking signing but it is a decent signing with some thought behind it. Personally I think he’ll add a lot to the team. We are a lower end of the table club with a bad reputation we are not going to be signing Australian or State of Origin representatives.

The club was sensible in hiring Joey Leilua on a favouable contract. The reality is we are stuck with a highly paid non performer for two years.

So being the best player in the English league makes you a non performer. Wow what does that say about everyone else there lol
