Hastings to leave Wigan

Wigan Warriors can confirm that Jackson Hastings will leave the Club at the end of the 2021 season.

Hastings will join NRL side Wests Tigers for 2022 and 2023.

Wigan Warriors executive director, Kris Radlinski, said: “Jackson asked to see me on Sunday morning where he informed me that he has agreed a two-year deal in the NRL and will leave at the end of 2021 when his contract expires.

“There has been much speculation about an immediate exit, but I have had written assurances from his management team and through my relationship with Michael Maguire, 2021 was never an option.

“During my conversation, Jackson was incredibly humble and said he feels honoured to have represented the Club. I could see it in his eyes that he wants to leave Wigan a winner.

“We have never doubted his commitment as a Rugby League player. He brings an outstanding attitude to training every day and plays his heart out every week on the playing field.

“Wests Tigers are getting a player who is deeply motivated to succeed and will drive the rest of the playing squad.”

Hastings said: “I am extremely grateful to Ian Lenagan and Kris Radlinski and Adrian Lam to represent this great Club.

“Over the last 15 months I’ve really appreciated being part of such an historic place and the expectations that come along with that.

“Kris and I have spoken at length about what the future holds. Having such a great relationship with him, the door is open if an opportunity arises in the future.

“I’m really grateful to all the fans for putting up with the rumours and speculation. I have given everything I have to the jersey and I will continue to do that for the rest of this year. I am an extremely driven individual that’s super committed to bringing success to Wigan in 2021.

“Now this is out of the way, I just want to get on with playing Rugby League. I am solely focused on 2021 and the goal we have as a Club for this year.

“Once again, I would like to say thank you to the Wigan fans for the constant support and I can’t wait to see them all back in the stands.”

All of this suggests we are receiving a mature minded version of Jackson, one with a dedicated work ethic and will to succeed.

Maybe he told them what he thinks of them and they couldn't handle it

They have let many a player go
If they don't want you, your gone
Playing for a number of teams doesn't make you a bad player

Marty Taupau
Matterson
How many teams a player plays for is irrelevant on their playing ability
And I wouldn't listen to anything DCE said or Dylan Walker
Then you have a coach like Nathan Brown who slaps Trent Barrett
And you are worried about Hastings
Hastings looks like a good family man which is more then I can say about many other nrl players
He might have rubbed a few players up but what nrl player hasn't
The only thing we should be concerned about is his playing ability and nothing else
And that is a little unknown at this point
We know he can play but how good back in the Nrl


I couldnt care less if he hit DCE, I couldnt care less if he is a good bloke or not. You have made the point yourself, its just about his playing ability.

You listed a long list of players who have played for many clubs and that it doesnt matter if Roosters let a player go. That is all true, but can you spot the difference between all those players and Jackson Hastings?



Ill give you a clue.........all of those players were good enough that there was another club willing to pick them up.

Which NRL club was willing to give him a go because of his playing ability after Manly?

Did you consider that he might have wanted to go to England for other reasons
Wether that be family reasons or to get away from the pressures of NRL life
He may have been offered more money to go to England
He made the right decision by going as he won Man of Steel and played in a Grand Final
Now if you can think rationally for a second and you are able to respond with with actual evidence to back up your claims as to the type of man he is today , then please do so
Because unless you know the man personally then you would have absolutely no Idea as to what type of person Hastings is now
And it's all just hearsay

As a Brooks hater, do you really think Hastings is a step up? It’s not like he’s had clubs lining up at his door for the last couple years. For every salty Brooks fan, there’s a Brooks hater willing this guy to be his successor. Feels pretty desperate.

Firstly, I’m not a Brooks hater per se. I don’t love him unconditionally like many of you, but I don’t hate him. I do however think he sucks.

Secondly, I was just posting a video link of our new recruit, a perfectly normal thing to do.
It’s sad that Brooks fans can’t get excited about any other signing because they feel so threatened! Jesus.

Why do you presume it was a Brooks fan? Maybe it’s just someone who doesn’t rate Hastings. This is starting to get political, like when you’d be accused of being a Hillary voter if you criticised Donald Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon.

I didn't. I just thought this was an opportunity to get excited about a new signing and here was a fan being pessimistic - which has become a bit of a hallmark here.

We all talk about bringing in someone as an upgrade to who he is replacing. He will be coming in to play at Connor Watson/13/14 type role.

Mybe will be gone next year so we are essentially replacing him with (arguably) a better player at this point in his career, younger and probably on half the money.

It's a good upgrade IMO.

Is this really an upgrade ? Mbye has been pretty good in that utility role.

Not denying that, I think Mybe makes a great 14 this year. But my point is Mybe is on huge money we are getting a player who just won man of steal so at the least probably puts him on par with Mybe but most likely cheaper and younger. Also is a genuine half, so with injuries we are getting someone who probably walks right into that spot, I feel Mybe is a jack of all trades but master of none.

If we pay him next year though say 400k and he plays elsewhere and we are paying Hastings 400k it's a wash.

And Chad just signed 3 times 650.

Hastings will be very good for us.

He is 25 now and has matured...people basing their opinion on when he was 20 will be proven wrong.

The thing about Hastings is he's "out of the box" thinking. No, I don't think there were tonnes of clubs looking to bring him back, but that's the same as saying there weren't tonnes of clubs interested in Elliott Whitehead or Josh Hodgson. Hastings barely played football here, was just a kid (heck he's still a kid) and has made more of a name for himself in Super League.

Ben Barba got his form back in Super League and, if he wasn't a recidivist, he'd be playing NRL right now.

With British-based players, you have to be willing to take a punt that their form can transfer back to Australia, and that already tells you that NRL clubs aren't going to line up around the corner to take that risk. However, Raiders for one have done very well and there are always some very good results with British imports.

Judging him on the man he is today, you didn't so my apologies
Judging him on the player he is today, your comments like many others seem to suggest he is crap because no other club wanted to sign him when he left Australia
Does anyone know for a fact that no Australian club put an offer in for his services
What was the cap situation of all clubs at that time, what money did that have to spend
What about the playing rosters of the clubs, what positions did they need to fill

And how does anyone know how he will go when he returns to the NRL
Are you or anyone else reading this so sure he is going to fail
And fail in what sense
We don't know how much he is being paid
We don't know what position he will play
Is he starting or on the bench
Is he minimum wage (unlikely but who knows)
Until we have all the facts, which we will never know, how can anyone judge Whether it is a good deal or Whether he is what we need for the position we seek
And we certainly can't make judgement on a players ability based on 3 years ago

Hope Hastings becomes an automatic inclusion (based on form) into our 17 next year.
Good on the club for signing him up. After Reynolds, BJ, Mbye, ect. Surely we are due for one of these types to kick on.
I would have been happier if he was signed below $400K as it didn’t look as though any other NRL clubs were chasing him.
A $400k plus player he needs to be above average NRL player. Hopefully he works out because we aren’t in a position to attract marquee players yet.
