It’s normal for Tigers supporters to get sucked into the fairy tale of signing a player killing it into a lesser comp. that’s fine.

After being burnt so many times with expectations, I’m holding off calling him a “star” as some people refer to him as...until he does it in tigers colours in a much stronger comp

Im quite happy to have Jackson on board,if he helps this side get more wins and gives 100 percent every game then we must be happy....I to will wait and see how he performs back in the big arena, all indications at the moment point to him being more than useful even as a suitable back up in some positions where we need experience and go forward....

Exactly and despite my earlier doubts about the signing I’m starting to come to terms with it.
I’m just over the fluff and want on field results

I was as optimistic as ever coming into this season now it’s round 8 and currently sit 1 win 6 losses. I’m not falling for that again.

Atleast the club is identifying & strengthening positions we are weak in I guess

Though I think some of our young forwards are going to be a force, our halves would have to be dealing with one of our worst groups of outside backs. They have some handy skills and all but there's no pushing up in support for defence and attack. But I do realise they are also sometimes at fault for not getting us on the front foot or the ball out to them. Its a little catch22.

On Hastings, people have positively referred to his kicking game and creative (off the cuff) play, so for a game that demands field position and regaining/creating momentum when it's lost IDC how unpopular or lowly rated he is as long as he is capable of fulfilling his job for the team. Whether that's in a utility role or not.
He seems confident enough in wanting to take his game to the next level so I can only welcome him as I think these are the type of players we need, he might not go on and light the NRL stage up but he sounds determined enough to help lift the team. Plus what's wrong with having an extra playmaker in a team that lacks a dominant one?

I just watched Wigan v Hull.

Hastings scored a try and won man of the match. It was a simple dummy against some flimsy defence and he more or less fell over the line.

He didn't really stand out to me all that much. He wasn't playing the role of a controlling 7.

Still think he'll be a handy signing. His post match interview was very impressive. He came across as quite humble and grounded. Seems he's done a huge amount of work off the park to get himself right. I think he'll be an asset.

I saw a player that was all class, steered the side around the park, set up most of the plays and got them out of trouble with his kicking game. He was the best on the field, i don't know what you expect , you must have very high standards or one of many that only see try scorers as having good games.

Hull probably couldn't beat the WT's

Its like taking a horse who is pretty good at Class 3 and then expecting it to win at Group 1 level

I’d put my cash on Hull

And for Fonua to out leap Nuffoaluma

Have watched the last few games Hastings has played and he isn’t the usual half we have had before & would think 13 could be his spot.

He runs it hard and straight, doesn’t shy away from doing the hard yards when needed. His defense is good, hits front and can hold his man. His lateral movement is solid as well, he doesn’t rush out and marks his man. His kicking game is solid but he has alot more time in ESL compared to NRL. He roves around the park and plays the link man very well with good outside/inside passing.

Normally you can spot some things instantly wrong with his game style but overall he definitely looks to be an improvement on what we have today.

I know it's Super League, but Hastings had key 3 moments in this match. 2 led to tries and he made a try saver. In a tight match, his involvements made all the difference.

Some quality touches by Hastings.

This guy is going to be a star for us. That one chip kick to the corner is something Brooks hasn’t been able to master in over 150 games.

Hastings wont have 45mins to kick it in the NRL.

Brooks couldn't kick his toe wandering barefoot and blindfolded on a construction site.

Brooks can't even kick his way through his 150 game banner made of wonder soft toilet tissue

For some reason no one protects for him though . He gets monstered a lot when kicking . MYbe he takes too long to set his kicks up , he’s always on his backside post kick though .

IMO
Our whole team stands to Flat
If Brooks stands back another 2 or 3 meters it will give him just that little bit longer
Same when we are attacking with the ball in hand
We need to be running onto the ball at pace
To many flat balls for my liking
We want bodies in motion
I do agree re Brooks
He need better protection
Other teams have players between their kicker and the defence
It also gives the kicker that little bit of time

I just don't understand how this couldn't have been identified in video sessions, but I completely agree depth is an issue.
As for Brooks not being 'protected' that's his own fault, he is the first receiver he dictates where he gets the ball, at the moment it is far too shallow.

Yes but against a lower standard. I reckon our halves would look like stars in ESL. I’m for the signing , Wont really know if he is up to NRL pace for a while yet.

Remember when he played for Great Britain against the Kiwis and he had no impact against better opposition.

As for Brooks not being 'protected' that's his own fault, he is the first receiver he dictates where he gets the ball, at the moment it is far too shallow.

As it would be last tackle, a few forwards need to move forward to protect Brooks
In saying that, Brooks needs to communicate his intentions so the other players know what's going on
Are we running the ball because the other team is in trouble and on the back foot, or are we going for a kick to the corner so we can contest the ball
If we are in our half, our forwards need to move up and protect Brooks
That does not need explanation as we need to get the ball up the other end
Or does it
All of our players should be on the same page
And that's not happening
The most successful teams in history are those that now to make the left hand is talk to the right
In Wests Tigers world, we all have no idea

More emphasis needs to be put into tactics and how to reed the play
We should be developing some kind of sign language on the field
Ant it's Brooks that should be doing that sign language
It's the other players that need to be able to read it
Brooks should be able to read what is in front of us and act accordingly
It can't always come down to game plan
We need to be unpredictable to an extent so the opposition has no idea what we are going to do
We need to be two steps ahead
Not two steps behind
Our opposition always knows our next move
Mix it up and make a change

Watching highlights of ESL and getting exciting about them, you’re setting yourself up disappointment. I remember watching a highlight video of George Williams before he came over. He looked unbelievable, like an Origin player. Comes over here and he’s nothing more than an average half. Hastings may prove handy, but his signing isn’t earth shattering.

The problem is he doesnt even look amazing in ESL. He does some nice things but you wouldnt say he dominates games.

I really hope he proves me wrong but I am not expecting him to wow us.

Really? I would say he's been extremely dominant.

For me his time at Salford is more telling than his time at Wigan. Wigan is always a strong team, an English version of the Roosters or Melbourne. But Salford is rubbish. Hastings lifted that whole rubbish team, and took them to a grand final.

I watch a lot of ESL and just have never seen it. As stated, hope he proves me wrong. I am definitely not death riding him.

I think we're lacking a hard running forward that has the ability to offload like JFH and AFB. I don't watch the ESL does Hastings fit this mould?

lol That is about as not true as anything I’ve ever read . It is forward 101 to “run through” on the edge of the ruck on the 5th tackle . I was taught that in u13s , and yet still in grade. It is treated as a given at NRL level .

MOTM overnight
Try + assist

I watched the game. He was okay. It was a pretty ordinary game of footy. But, he did have some nice touches.

Just watched the Hull v Wigan match, top of the table game and had my eye on Jackson Hastings. He had a very good game, scored a solo pie, set up another and lead the side around nicely.
What I really am pumped about is his kicking game, he had a very nice boot and all kicks landed.
The commentators were raving on about him all game and he won the man of the match and Wigan won the game!!!
Looks a very handy pick up to moi!!

Finally got to watch his game from the weekend and cannot believe people are questioning this signing.. He is the team general and organizes pretty much everything.
He is yelling at players to where they need to be, calling the shots in offence, touches the ball every set, kicking game is excellent, happy to run the ball himself, made some great tackles and just leading the team as a halfback should. All this with a sore ankle that he hurt early in the game.
If he maintains that in the NRL he will be our 7 without question and we will need to replace him at Lock if that's where he was brought for.
I am pretty excited to have him on board.
