We are looking at a Brooks Hastings partnership.

As long as brooksy can handle someone wanting to actually lead the team around it should work alright

Shut up man . Seriously . It’s getting old . Brooks has been the best player on the field the last 5 weeks . It’s not his fault , when AD is out , the right side turns into a big massive turd , that lets in 50 points a game .

I remember once we played a team , they made a line break down the other side of the field from the 30m , I chased them hard to tackle their strike centre on the goal line , holding him up , with help from our half . I was busted after , as I was a big boy at the time .
You know how my backs respected that play ? The following scrum ,which I packed down in , They let thier small winger from the other side of the field stroll in , in the corner . I looked up to see all my effort , was just a waste of time .Sometimes it doesn’t matter what you do .

Telling people to shut up and then recounting a story from your childhood won’t make you any friends or prove your point.
Accept the fact that everybody else doesn’t idolise Brooks like you do.

Childhood ? Lol no , it wasn’t childhood . Much later than that .

It doesn’t matter.
You missed the point.

What’s your problem ? Everytime I call out the brooks bashers you try and come in ,from the top rope . If guys are just going to continually blame 1 player for every loss . I’m gonna defend the kid. It’s straight up crap. It’s brooks now , and when it’s someone else I’ll defend them . Like guys blaming the whole loss on Tommy Talau . He was on the left as well . Sure he let in a try , and gift wrapped another , but he’s still only 1 player .

I hate that about tigers fans . They always look for someone to lynch.
We suck because we suck . It’s not 1 player .
Also I chimed in after 5 comments , not the first .

Still missed the point ... but thanks for the insight.
At least you didn't abuse one particular person this time but grouped all Tigers fans together.
Lucky the players have you riding shotgun for them ... even if they suck.

Do what you gotta do champ.
But friendly reminder for the day...

Brooks is not a kid.
He's almost 27 and has been in the top grade for a long time now.

I’m not saying kid , as “protect the children thing”. Just a general rule that most of these elite footy players are pretty much life noobs . Even at 30 , that’s not exactly ancient in the real world.
It used to annoy me when it was fitzhenry , or whoever.
The only time I can think where it was justified , was the game Jennings played where he dropped 5 high balls and they scored off a few of them , and some of the Ben Teo games , and that Mitchell Moses game where he dogged it before he left .
Most of the time it’s all 17 players .
And everytime our half plays well it’s cause the other team is crap , and when he plays poorly it’s “see!!!” . Unrealistic standards .

I'm not hating, I liked your post.
Just don't like when grown men get called kids.

The first paragraph clears it up somewhat and is quite fair.

But yeah, enjoy your posting so don't mind me... lol.

Has someone been calling you kid?

Nah, wouldn't allow that in my personal and professional life.

I look like you.
But Lebanese and more hair.

More likely to call me old timer.

Yeah I haven't been called kid since I was 4. Funny enough though I'm still called "Little Garry" amongst my family.

Lol, I've had facial hair since I was like 12...
But yeah, Brooks can't grow a Moe but he's definitely no kid.

I was shaving in year 7, had a bum fluff beard before that.

Please ...some of us non - freaks are trying to have brunch ...

On Hastings he is currently playing at 103kg, which is fair lump for a half. A lot of his problems in the past have been due to a will to win which has caused problems with more senior players when he would call them out about their form in a disrespectful manner. Apparently he has worked on the manner he does that that but is still someone who demands high standards from his team mates. Sounds like the type of person we need as long as his own form is up to scratch.

If he's a leader he needs to be in the halves... hopefully they don't move him around just to accomodate Brooks though. He and Doueihi could be a real nice halves combo, Doueihi also a very good centre if Brooks plays well too.

I think a AD/ Hastings combo lacks pace, the plan is for a Brooks Hastings pairing. Though at 103kg Hastings could play 13.

Honestly I'm not too worried if my halves are fast. It's definitely nice but they're both still strong runners of the footy who provide a threat near the line and have good passing games

Just don't see Brooks ever putting a team on his back and leading them to success. Would be a much better 6 than 7 but for some reason struggles with it. He needs to learn to be vocal and take control of a game if he wants to stay at 7 imo because Hastings and Doueihi are happy to take that role of leader

You probably already know my opinion on this but AD needs to show a big improvement when given another opportunity in the halves.

He's still a kid and already one of our best. He's a good centre but he doesn't get to touch the ball enough there sometimes which is why I'd like him further infield during a game. In the close games I want our best players in control

Part of the 5/8th role is to make the players around you better as well.

Yup, and despite the calls of him being a ball hog he's still got the second most try assists in the team and has shown an excellent passing game as well. Sure he could run the ball a little less but he's shown he can be a good play maker plenty of times too. It will all come with age and experience, he'll get there he's worth persisting with.

He has 2 passes at his disposal, the long cutout to the right, which is a great ball though he telegraphs it a little. He has a hit and miss short ball to the right that is difficult at times to run off due to his awkward footwork at the line. He really needs to work on his passing to the left has floaty and slow. He also needs to learn when it is time to give the ball early as he likes to engage the line everytime he has the ball.

I really like AD and see him as one of our best players, but he really needs to improve this aspects of his game to be a top level 5/8th.

He does have those things to work on but how can he work on that being stuck at centre on the right side? Only way he will become a better 5/8 is by playing 5/8, I know we won some games moving him but I don't think it was a great move overall. He was getting better and starting to play his best footy for us and got moved just so Brooks can take over, not very fair IMO.

We are lucky Doueihi is so good he can play whatever position and still be very good and will put the team first. A few other blokes we have will chuck a tantrum or their confidence would be shot if that happened to them

I would want to see those things at training consistently. You need to remember that we only see 80 mins of their week, the most important 80 but that doesn't mean he isn't getting the opportunity to work on those things and show improvement at training. Worst comes to worst he will get a shot to show his wares in the halves during the trials.

As I've said previously I hope he can make the transition into the halves because I really like him and see him as a future captain.

If they're working on a Mbye and brooks combo then Doueihi is probably not getting nearly as much opportunity to work on it at training I would think. He'll be back at the halves at some point I would think

Mate you have to work on your plan b as well. I would be very disappointed if he wasn't getting time in the halves at training. It won't be as much as Mbye but he is at the point where he needs to take his opportunities to show he has made those improvements. I just hope it has been made clear to him the aspects of his game he needs to work on.

I'm sure he gets some time, but wouldn't nearly as much as Mbye who's openly said he's open to leaving the club and only has one more year on his contract. Wish we could pick a spine and stick with it, been about 9 years since we've done that lol

I think that may be why they signed Hastings.

At first it seemed like they signed him to play lock which is interesting. Plenty of options for next year at this point and if our halves done perform they can actually be dropped for someone decent not a rookie from reserve grade

The currently plan is for a Brooks/ Hastings combo and I think that was always the case. Hastings could definitely move to lock if AD can show improvement at 6.

Hopefully brooks can handle a dominant half next to him this time around

Can't see it happening.
Brooks will meekly go into his shell as he always does.
***Doueihi was moved to give him more freedom*** when I believe he was really finding his feet at 5/8 ... and was easily our best player.

I keep reading this as if it was a real thing. No one has said this, it is something that you have imagined in your own head.

What I have witnessed with my own eyes is that the team plays better with AD at 4 and Mbye at 6 because the ball gets past the five eight.

Really?
Just how good have we been going?
Seen heaps of tries scored by our outside backs since the change?
Doueihi was getting used to the position when the rug was pulled out from under him.

Since you asked the question, in the 9 rounds that AD was at 6, our centers and wingers scored 6 tries. In the 6 rounds that Mbye is at 6, our centers and wingers have scored 12 tries.

BUt I concede that I can’t read Brooks mind but based on stats and my own eyes (and Madges) we are MUCH better with Mbye at 6

Yep, got us a lot of wins.
You might want to take in consideration the quality of our opposition in those figures plus scoring after we're down by 40 or 50 points doesn't count.

Great point and you are 100% correct. With AD at 6 we lost to 3 bottom 8 teams (Canberra, NQ & Titans) whereas with Mbye at 6 we have only lost 1 (Warriors).

Wow , must be a good view from your soap box ? Tell me again what you think random person , I could care less about on a public forum !!!
Did I hit a nerve or something . Every time I called someone out I was right . Just because feeli s got hurt doesn’t it make it any less right . Your being a little precious don’t you think ?

By the way , you’ve come after me , at least 3 times now. Completely out of nowhere . So it’s a bit rich for you to keep going .
And finally , yea I’ll defend the players , because a few years ago we had a bloke top himself at this club , because he tore his Pec . We’ve had multiple come out and say the abuse they receive causes them mental stress , which I’m sure it does , so if I defend some players who don’t deserve the abuse some on here, Twitter , Facebook , Instagram, hurl at them , I won’t apologise for it.

It doesn’t give them a pass for the poor onfield performance , but when guys are called “waste of space” , or whatever abuse falls into the lines of what’s ok on here , and then the person who is abusing that player , can’t handle being abused back . I find it really indicative, of what kind of person , the so called fan is .

And yea , I won’t contribute to that . Not because I’m a fanboy , but because critiquing thier football , is way more constructive . But I guess if you don’t know football , then all you’ve got is abusing players .

Hasting comments on Wigan's struggles

They are 5th on the ladder - for them that is a failure. Wigan expects success every year, they have a winning culture.

Wow imagine being 5th

I can't even imagine being 9th at the moment.

Fair enough then.
Go forward Captain Fanboy and save the players from any criticism those nasty supporters wanting accountability or success may have.
All the while as we watch our team go down the gurgler due to having neither.

Mate , what are you talking about ? It’s not the Crips and the bloods , where you have to be on one side of a fence or another .
Saying that the performance is horrendous and that they need to be held accountable , is not the same as saying “what a waste of space , what a cat , nuffie , plodder , some even made reference to the killing themselves . Not in here , but everywhere else .
Tamou , Mbye , Luciano , Twal , roberts and maybe Nofa , should all be dropped . It’s that simple .
Once again I find it rich , that your coming after me because I abused people on here , which your right , I probably shouldn’t have , but condone the horrendous stuff that’s said to these guys .

Really what your saying , is as long as I don’t hurt you or your mates feelings , that all the rest is fine .
Which is beyond hypocritical.
And all those guys were dribbling absolute , uneducated garbage . They watch a game thier whole life , and yet still have no idea what’s actually going on in front of them , yet feel entitled to criticise , guys who’ve mad e a profession out of something , many haven’t even played . It’s beyond me .
It would be like me telling an Astro physicist , that they’re not doing thier job properly , because I watched a few discovery channel episodes . I’d be straight up delusional. If anything it’s way worse , because footy is anything but Astrophysics.

But whatever I’m over this conversation. I’d say everything I said on here to everyone’s face, if we met in person . Not because I’m tough , or hard , or think I’m better . But because I’m genuine and honest .

Which I know for a fact , is more than many on here can say . I’m not a football star , I played a lot to various degrees of success , and I always enjoyed studying the game , and rugby as well for that matter .

Like I said . I’d rather rant and rave about the bad tactical decisions made , then calling an elite person at thier job , which any NRL player is , as they’re in the top 1% of players in the world of this sport , a pea heart / nuffie , plodder , weak , waste of space / disgrace to thier family / jersey , etc .
But like I said , many can’t have those conversations so they resort to the other stuff .

Jackson Hastings with 4 try assists and a field goal to help Wigan win 25-12 against Wakefield overnight.

The question is where does he play. Is he a utility off the bench, does he slot in at lock, start at five eight or halfback

Hopefully in the halves with AD. Can't see the point of playing him anywhere else

Was listed as fullback but in attack fullback can just about play the same as the halves

He won't displace Laurie and won't displace Brooks. His defence is not good enough for lock. He'd have the impact of a wet lettuce off the interchange with his complete lack of pace. Looks like he'll fit right in.

I’m surprised he weighs that. One thing I’ve noticed is he is a relatively big player 186cm and as you said over 100kg but if he was to play lock I see no evidence in watching recently that his contact is sound enough to cause some damage. I was honestly thinking he’d come here and put on some size coz he doesn’t have the same sting in his tackles that a lock should it’s a far cry from the sort of defence you see from big halves such as Tyson Gamble and Lachlan Lewis.

His defence doesn’t look great to me.
About the weight, Radley weighs in the 90’s so perhaps it’s more about technique and probably more importantly attitude

Some people are so upset we've signed him purely because of personal reasons it seems. He's a good solid player, people are scared he will replace their favourite little Brooks!

Where'd you find those mate?

Im looking forward to Jacko coming here, even if its to show us what he has to offer...

He could be just what we need or be an average NRL player, who knows, but I think we should get behind him and the team until we see what Madge has planned for him and the team...
