Welcome, Jackson. See you next year.

Hastings to leave Wigan

19 April 2021
Wigan Warriors can confirm that Jackson Hastings will leave the Club at the end of the 2021 season.

Hastings will join NRL side Wests Tigers for 2022 and 2023.

Wigan Warriors executive director, Kris Radlinski, said: “Jackson asked to see me on Sunday morning where he informed me that he has agreed a two-year deal in the NRL and will leave at the end of 2021 when his contract expires.

“There has been much speculation about an immediate exit, but I have had written assurances from his management team and through my relationship with Michael Maguire, 2021 was never an option.

“During my conversation, Jackson was incredibly humble and said he feels honoured to have represented the Club. I could see it in his eyes that he wants to leave Wigan a winner.

“We have never doubted his commitment as a Rugby League player. He brings an outstanding attitude to training every day and plays his heart out every week on the playing field.

“Wests Tigers are getting a player who is deeply motivated to succeed and will drive the rest of the playing squad.”

Hastings said: “I am extremely grateful to Ian Lenagan and Kris Radlinski and Adrian Lam to represent this great Club.

“Over the last 15 months I’ve really appreciated being part of such an historic place and the expectations that come along with that.

“Kris and I have spoken at length about what the future holds. Having such a great relationship with him, the door is open if an opportunity arises in the future.

“I’m really grateful to all the fans for putting up with the rumours and speculation. I have given everything I have to the jersey and I will continue to do that for the rest of this year. I am an extremely driven individual that’s super committed to bringing success to Wigan in 2021.

“Now this is out of the way, I just want to get on with playing Rugby League. I am solely focused on 2021 and the goal we have as a Club for this year.

“Once again, I would like to say thank you to the Wigan fans for the constant support and I can’t wait to see them all back in the stands.”

Chammas saying on inside the NRL, not sure on exact figure but would be in the $400k-$500k bracket.

Sowards opinion is Jackson coming to play in the halves and he (Soward) wouldn't be moving AD from 5/8.

I really wouldn't be surprised to see Hastings in the 7 jumper. I'm hoping this talk of him being a utility is just a cover up so brooks doesn't lose all his confidence. Brooks would actually be a good 14 to be honest

With Doueihi and Hastings you would have the slowest halves combination in the NRL.

If halves do there job and the rest of the side supports them they only have to be quick in the minds not their feet.
How quick do you think the best half in the game is right now?

Your backline is only as fast as your slowest back .....bloody hell you could have used a sundial to time some of our backlines over the years

I’m confused, does that include the 7 and 6? Coz we know Brooks is one of the quickest but we also know your far from a fan.
Which side are you siting on. Brooks or Hastings for 7?

Happy don’t care
He just likes stirring Geo

lol..never works tho

Hastings covers a few positions...

I think it infuriates me abit more that a signing like this should be one of them posts that smug pug Clarkey Column puts together... hates the tigers more than anything..

I have a really bad feeling about this. I think it will be a very poor signing and also could undo a lot of the hard work the club has done.

For everyone that boasts "But he won the Man of Steel", I remind them that before he was run out of the NRL for being and pleasant to be around, in 3.5 years he played 37 games.

If he was any good, his off field personailty wouldnt have mattered.

I hope to be proved wrong.

maybe Hastings takes Mmbyes bench role and Mmbye goes to centre for 2022 to take Joey L spot and Naden to wing
Nobody will take Brooks in hindsight dogs shoukd have tried to take him instead of Flannagan

This signing really ramps up the heat on Brooks, yeh they say he is going to play 13, but he is a half and Brooks knows it, may be just what he needs to fire him up

How do you think this would work for 2022?

1. Laurie
2. Nofoaluma
3. Kepaoa
4. Douiehi
5. Naden
6. Brooks
7. Hastings

It's interesting that he is perceived to be a 7 when the majority of his NRL games for both the Roosters and Manly were off the Bench as a utility..

At the Roosters he had Pearce and Maloney ahead of him and Manly had DCE and Green so he only ever started in 6 of 47 games in total..all the rest off the bench..

I feel that's the reason he has been signed here..

The deal will see Hastings join Wests Tigers at the start of the 2022 NRL season and remain with the club until at least the end of 2023.

Do I sense a player or club option after 2023? Usually that’s what that means.

Washed out of 2 clubs, 3rd times a charm.

Can we please get a marquee player to support our regular recruits of kids, retirement village residents and fringe first graders.
