I think this signing will make us as fans nostalgic for Braith anasta and Moses Mbye.

The thing i'm confused by is that we have Mbye already on the books who appears to serve the ball playing utility role very well (and played well there on the weekend). Now we're going to pay presumably half his salary to play elsewhere next year, whilst signing someone to play the exact same role.

Sorry, I must have missed that he has signed elsewhere with us paying half of his salary?

Which club was it?

Maybe we will keep him and sell Brooks?

I think we have some pretty smart blokes running the show now, I believe they’ll get it right.

If Mbye leaves which would makes sense if Hastings is coming, how much freight do you think we'll have to pay? If he's on, say, $800k, do you think anyone is going to pay more than $400k for him? Unlikely.

The blokes running the show signed Joey and extended Nofo for 4 years.

I could see the Bulldogs taking him back on 400k

Possibly so, and then we'd be paying i'd imagine $400k for Hastings so we'd be net the same as if we kept Mbye. If Hastings is a heap better than Mbye, makes sense. But is he?

I'd imagine Hastings would be on much less than 400k.

Chammas saying on inside the NRL, not sure on exact figure but would be in the $400k-$500k bracket.

Sowards opinion is Jackson coming to play in the halves and he (Soward) wouldn't be moving AD from 5/8.

I really wouldn't be surprised to see Hastings in the 7 jumper. I'm hoping this talk of him being a utility is just a cover up so brooks doesn't lose all his confidence. Brooks would actually be a good 14 to be honest

With Doueihi and Hastings you would have the slowest halves combination in the NRL.

I think I read, he would be on a smaller salary first year, to make sure all was good, then increase commensurate to a half's money?

Jackson Hastings will provide good utility value and put some pressure on the halves to perform. Walters is going to Brisbane and Mbye being moved so it makes sense. Low cost signing and the kid has pedigree played Australian Schoolboys, 50+ NRL games and won the man of Steel Award in England. I like these types of signings if it’s low cost.

Given he wanted to return I can’t see this deal being a large contract and likely a straight replacement for Billy Walters.

He won’t be coming to play 14

Unless Brooks is offloaded which I think the club would do tomorrow he’s not a better half than Brooks or Douihei. Cheaper and better value is only relevant if Brooks is moved on. I don’t see it happening.

If that's the case then hopefully it's a similar situation to Leilua and Roberts where anything beyond that first year is a club option.

Not sure, pretty sure I read it on this forum, from one of the journo's?

What ever!

I think he is a good signing.
Just watched his highlights package from 2019...it's long! And full of tries and assists!
He may not be the most dynamic but he looks like a tough playmaker who has great hands and excellent positional play.
Looks to me like he wants to get involved in the big moments.

33 games with 47 direct contributions to tries is too impressive to write him off as a head case. Just looking at his talent and his stats, Hastings clearly has potential to be a force.
Here's hoping!

Obviously it's only ESL but he's got good decision making. Takes good options when he needs to

That is a bog average highlights reel and just shows how bad ESL defence is.
