I just watched Wigan v Hull.

Hastings scored a try and won man of the match. It was a simple dummy against some flimsy defence and he more or less fell over the line.

He didn't really stand out to me all that much. He wasn't playing the role of a controlling 7.

Still think he'll be a handy signing. His post match interview was very impressive. He came across as quite humble and grounded. Seems he's done a huge amount of work off the park to get himself right. I think he'll be an asset.

He has always looked to me to seem to like to play off the cuff ...which has it's strength and weaknesses

I can't see him as the sort of player who will drive a team around the park

Absolutely right Hap. It was the kind of game that was screaming out for a half to grab it by the scruff of the neck. Handy player, but I don't think he'll solve our halves problems.

I saw a player that was all class, steered the side around the park, set up most of the plays and got them out of trouble with his kicking game. He was the best on the field, i don't know what you expect , you must have very high standards or one of many that only see try scorers as having good games.

I have read right through this thread and there are people who are deadset against the signing based on his previous NRL stints...
There are plenty who support the signing based on his playing ability and skills he has to offer...

My opinion is ....we have signed him,he has a certain skillset that can be quite useful for us moving forward and I welcome that...
Most of all he is now going to be in the WTs team/squad and I will 100 percent support him while with us as I do our WHOLE team including the players most on here constantly moan and groan about...
We are in a hole that Madge and Hartigan are trying to dig us out of...I support them and can see they are doing whats right for the club and team first and foremost...constantly being critical of the clubs every move or signing doesnt help one bit, lets face it we cant do anything once the club has made a decision...
Over the years there have been poor signings BUT,when they were signed they were playing well and the signings were justified (Adam Blair)brilliant in the storm system, but horrible once out of that system..
For the reasonable,Corey Thompson came from ESL and was an honest hard worker without being a particularly brilliant player....

Lets give Jacko a shot at proving he can provide something good for our team, with the younger ones and the experienced players to develop over the next couple of years and bring us out of the no finals doldrums once and for all....

And who on here would not wish that we still had Corey Thompson right now.

Best way to look at this Signing.

- Would you prefer Mybe at full freight

OR

- Hastings + Funding Mybe to play elsewhere

Hasting's has a higher ceiling AND can cover 7

(13-14 is where he's been signed to play)

Do you realise that your question is....Would you have Mbye for $900K or would you have Hastings for $900K?

That assumes that the dollar value works out that way, but you have neglected to put a dollar value on the upside that was mentioned.

I know it's Super League, but Hastings had key 3 moments in this match. 2 led to tries and he made a try saver. In a tight match, his involvements made all the difference.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V19BQOHbYJI&ab_channel=SuperLeague

Some quality touches by Hastings.

This guy is going to be a star for us. That one chip kick to the corner is something Brooks hasn’t been able to master in over 150 games.

Hastings wont have 45mins to kick it in the NRL.

Brooks couldn't kick his toe wandering barefoot and blindfolded on a construction site.

Brooks can't even kick his way through his 150 game banner made of wonder soft toilet tissue

For some reason no one protects for him though . He gets monstered a lot when kicking . MYbe he takes too long to set his kicks up , he’s always on his backside post kick though .

IMO
Our whole team stands to Flat
If Brooks stands back another 2 or 3 meters it will give him just that little bit longer
Same when we are attacking with the ball in hand
We need to be running onto the ball at pace
To many flat balls for my liking
We want bodies in motion
I do agree re Brooks
He need better protection
Other teams have players between their kicker and the defence
It also gives the kicker that little bit of time

I agree with this.

I have seen on a couple of occasions where they pass the ball out along the line like U7 players, just standing still and passing.

You don't see the likes of Penrith doing that, they are all running flat out.

Good observation. Too bad Madge doesn't notice it needs correcting.

Watching highlights of ESL and getting exciting about them, you’re setting yourself up disappointment. I remember watching a highlight video of George Williams before he came over. He looked unbelievable, like an Origin player. Comes over here and he’s nothing more than an average half. Hastings may prove handy, but his signing isn’t earth shattering.

The problem is he doesnt even look amazing in ESL. He does some nice things but you wouldnt say he dominates games.

I really hope he proves me wrong but I am not expecting him to wow us.

I don’t think he’s better than anyone we’ve got already. I think people will be disappointed if that’s what they believe.

He's probably more eyes up than anyone we have ...but Wigans forward pack is as good as anyone's in the ESL

He won't get that coming to the WT's

The picture you painted made me legit lol.

He forget to mention the band aids that magically appear in the very next frame which always cracked me up when watching the cartoons in the good old days when senseless violence wasn't frowned upon by the politically correct cancel culture crowd.

All Ive heard for the last 5 years and Brooks 150 games is that its "his team" he can be the star we have been waiting to take us to the finals....

If Jackson puts pressure on Brooks to keep his spot, then finally Brooks may show us his true potential and follow Maguires game plans and LEAD this team to the finals arena...

surely anyone with football smarts can see what is developing..

You’re right TT.
Anyone who thinks Hastings won’t have the 7 jersey in his sights is kidding themselves.
Even Brooks knows the threat, hence him saying he’s not going anywhere.
Be an interesting start to the year next season.

What chance for a punch up at pre-season training.

Mate you want a giraffe neck, look at young Freddie Lussick at the Roosters. Dead-set Mekaneck from He-Man.

EXCLUSIVE: Andrew Johns and Brad Fittler back Jackson Hastings to shine with Wests Tigers
By Chris De Silva

League legend Andrew Johns has described Jackson Hastings as a "really good" individual, backing him to be a positive addition to the Wests Tigers squad.

After a three-year exile away from the NRL in the UK Super League, Hastings signed a two-year deal to return to Australia for the Wests Tigers.

Hastings left the NRL under controversial circumstances back in 2018, released from his contract with Manly after a falling out with skipper Daly Cherry-Evans and coach Trent Barrett.

Despite his acrimonious NRL exit, Johns recalled his positive experiences while working alongside Hastings when he was a teenager with the Roosters between 2014 and 2016.

"I found him to be a really good young guy," he told Wide World of Sports' Freddy and the Eighth.

"I remember when I'd go to training, I'd sometimes take my
little fella and he'd kick the footy around with him.

"He was very young coming in when he was at the Roosters and he was playing with some real strong and dominant players.

"He's gone away and obviously matured. You're a different person when you're in your mid-20s to when you're in your late teens, so I think he'll go well."

Fellow league great Brad Fittler also praised the Hastings signing, suggesting the halfback would give the Wests Tigers more of an on-field identity than they've had with Luke Brooks on the controls.

"What he will do is he'll voice up. He'll own where they are and where they've got to go on the field and he does that easy," Fittler told Freddy and the Eighth.
"You can tell he's a real student of the game. He knows when to kick, all that sort of stuff, which Brooks falls in and out of a lot.

"It might give them a bit more consistency in what they're doing during a game. Sometimes at the end of the game, you'll watch the Tigers and go, 'What happened? What have they done?', it's very hard to know.

"When he plays, you become more aware of what he's trying to do."

On Friday afternoon on SEN with his brother and Webster, A Johns said he didnt see where Jackson fits in at the Tigers and it looks like the kind of signing you do when you dont know what to do and you have to do "something".

exactly
what are we in a matrix in this forum
Most of the time these two flogs Fitler and johns we are commenting on how dumb they both are but now it is supporting Hastings all good

The point is, they must actually believe it because no amount of money would convince them to say anything positive about the Wests Tigers.

Cannot believe all the people writing off a player that has not even arrived yet..
This guys has matured greatly over the last 3 years and he is not the first person that had a run in with manly players.
With regards to him playing is a lower classed league - You can only play the teams in front of you and he clearly has done a good job of that and won Man of Steel award..
He might not be perfect or a Top classed player but for the Dollars he would be getting it is a very astute buy for me and looking forward to seeing him shine.
But most of us can agree he would be an update on some players we have in the halves.

It’s normal for Tigers supporters to get sucked into the fairy tale of signing a player killing it into a lesser comp. that’s fine.

After being burnt so many times with expectations, I’m holding off calling him a “star” as some people refer to him as...until he does it in tigers colours in a much stronger comp

Im quite happy to have Jackson on board,if he helps this side get more wins and gives 100 percent every game then we must be happy....I to will wait and see how he performs back in the big arena, all indications at the moment point to him being more than useful even as a suitable back up in some positions where we need experience and go forward....
