Hastings

As good as he may have been, we still only scored 4 points. So how influential could he have been.
He's also got a clean run of no one knowing much on him in the comp these days.
Once they work him out a bit it might be different.

He's got a bit of fight though - More than you can say for most.

The first two tries came from Hastings. Rather than competing for the ball he tried to block the attacker. No ball, no try. The other try at least he went for the ball but his first half was diabolical.

That is nonsense. The first two tries came off kicks and they were lucky. You could blame Laurie just as much as Hastings but sometimes the bounce of your ball doesn't go your way.
Looks like he has a two week holiday do the experts still want to punt Brooks?

You have to keep him for the moment. I'm not sure if Madden is better.

200 meters off 18 runs, with 38 post contact meters.

I'd be happy with that from a prop!!!

Supported by teammates performing,

In a game we win by 20!
However, He played 5/8, in a 22 point LOSING team that clearly weren't putting in, and ran the most meters out of ANYBODY on the field - Knights included.

He also ran 92 metres further than our best forward.

There were ZERO easy meters taken (e.g - kick return)

If all our player played with that much effort and heart, we'd go through undefeated.

This is a guy who has spent 4 years in super league, and during that time realised that playing NRL is a privilege - you can see he truly appreciates the opportunity given to him.

The real problem is going to be keeping him - if his teammates around him continue to be pea-hearted, he'll end up somewhere like Canberra, or the Bulldogs where the effort will be sorely appreciated by the team, and the coaches alike.

The coach will be the first gone, but there is not much ticker or smarts to work with for any coach who takes it on. Errors an inability to execute fundamentals in a game all falls on the players. The performance reflects a team that fields the best of a bad lot, with not much else to choose from. They are wooden spoon favourites with many for a reason. Expecting a consistent inconsistent season no matter who survives and who doesn't.
This is why they have to choose an experienced coach - so Flanagan, yes he cheated, but at least he tried something different lol.
Might get a halfback as part of the deal also

This does my head in..Hastings played the halfback role yesterday.. it didn't work very well..

Hastings had 60 receipts of the ball yesterday 2/3rds more than Brooks with 46 .. the number 6 or 7 they wear is irrelevant.. the attack did not flow as well as it did against Melbourne.. any combinations Brooks/Tuilagi Hastings/Leilua ...was wasted after 1 game

Unsure why the coaching staff decided to switch them onto the other sides of the field especially in defence..NRL proper in not the time to experiment with these things.. it's why there is an off season ..oh and supposed training during the week

Maybe switched sides to improve Oliver's defence, thet weren't as suspect with the block plays but just sacked at everything else

Good point mate

Are they playing both sides in attack?

I don't agree with this at all. He had a really good game. The rest of the team were puss.
I had him as our best yesterday as well Earl.. the team, combinations and roles not so much.. it's why they struggle..instead of building on what's working there is an obvious attempt for a quick fix.. that never ends well 1 tiny step forward 3 massive leaps backwards with this mob ..
