HBG, Independent Directors Sacked

Thanks for the response.

I have not changed my mind. I purchased a membership of a rugby league club run by an independent board that made professional decisions in the interests of the club and its members.

This is no longer the case. I have received a membership to a rugby league club run by a group of dinosaurs who act solely in their own interest.

Therefore the product I have purchased is defective or significantly different from what was advertised. Can you please advise under consumer law, what are the grounds for me being denied a refund?
problem is we knew the product was defective before 2026 purchase we have had 15 years of receipts

Hopefully people interact with the NRL. I would hate to see the poor admin staff at WT under the gun. But HBG wouldn’t give a shit.

Holman Barnes Group (HBG) operates as a licensed club group in Australia. Wests tigers is one of the members' assets. If they are negligently operating that asset and have a disfucntional board, then L&G can step in.
We should also email L&G NSW:

contact.us@liquorandgaming.nsw.gov.au

Please share this email through your social channels to call for an immediate investigation into HBG.

I assume that will be part of the PVL investigation.
If he finds that the board members dismissals were unjustified, I am confident he will take appropriate action and rightly so.
What happens if he finds the dismissals were justified?
There will be a lot of people with egg on their face if that is the outcome.
Ha ha ha .. long long odds on against the second scenario..

I accept all that, but let me add there is a difference between Wests Magpies coming back as they were pre merger, and the Wests Tigers changing their name and emblem but remaining the same in every other respect. So Leichhardt games would remain, a Tiger on the sleeve etc - maybe even a Balmain heritage game every season 🤷‍♂️

This would probably also be unacceptable to old Balmain types, but you get my distinction with a total take over.
See I don’t see it that way. I don’t want to go to Leichhardt or Campbelltown to watch the Magpies anymore than I would to see the Dolphins. It’s not just “old Balmain types”, although I think you underestimate how many WT fans/members fit that category, who would be resistant. I don’t care if they’re playing in Balmain heritage jumpers - it’s not my team and I’d see it as a cynical attempt to appropriate the history of Balmain.

I don’t think you get that a huge chunk of people who are currently supporters and members wouldn’t see this as a simple name change, it’s a completely new concept. There’d be a few poorly attended LO games and then it’d be Western Suburbs Magpies at Campbelltown full time. How many ex Norths fans do you think support Manly?

To cover your final point, a total takeover is exactly how it would be perceived.

It’s funny, because what you’re describing is how a lot of Western Suburbs fans (not all) have felt for the past 26 years.
I think if the perception of the merger had been more even handed (the media have been the worst offenders there), then none of this current stuff would ever have happened.

Like others, I reckon Richo is as good as gone too. It looks like HBG want him out despite what they say. On the trajectory the club is on, with improvement in all facets likely over the next couple of years, it will only get harder for HBG to get rid of Richo in the future. No doubt they have a magpies “puppet” lined up to put in the CEO role.
