HBG, Independent Directors Sacked

That's not happening. You still have Ipswich, South Brisbane and even NZ way above in the pecking order.

And they would sabotage a current NRL team just to hopefully get a new one in later? No way. These guys are too smart to do that.

Honestly, there has to be something else..
Your spot on, it's not going to happen. Though if it did, I guarantee there would be people who would go to any lengths to turn it back to Wests Tigers. Attempting to bring back the Magpies like was being reported last year in the media is the only logical conclusion I can surmise. They wouldn't care how much money they pump into it, it's not theirs. There was no reason for what they've done. Maybe your giving them too much credit. Maybe they don't have a valid personal reason and are just incompetent. Time will tell eventually.

and what do they want to do with this power and control?

"Oh yay, we have full control of the team that is the worst run club in the NRL".

These guys on the Board are not idiots. They've all been successful in some way, shape or form, hence why they are in the position they're in.

I still cannot find the actual motive tbh.
I replied to you earlier

The ability to replace a company or and individual is what drives competition and innovation. It’s why the HBG board is so inept and dysfunctional, they’re protected and have little incentive to improve themselves.

Our previous CEO was in the position for 9 years and achieved mediocrity at best. Richo achieved more in 12 months than he did in 9 years.

Removing poor performers and retaining high achievers is exactly the answer to achieve success.

The HBG board has performed poorly and absolutely need replacing.
That's fair, but the last sentence is irrelevant IMO.

I think HBG made $15-20M in profits last year and WT made a profit for the first time in 15 years. We have no right to tell HBG to change their Board Members. Maybe WT is contributing to their exposure, but even then, I feel that's a bit too far- fetched.

However, I do agree that we need to replace something. We have replaced enough people and it's not working.

We need to put in place a structure which rewards winning and excellence.

What does HBG actually gain out of WT?

HBG has been a shit owner for way longer than the current people on it.

Which decisions do they want to make? Are we saying there are 1 or 2 people on the HBG Board that love the Magpies so much that they want WT to fail, get a team in the NRL as WS and then be in full control of that team?

That's far fetched and probably more than 5+ years away. Doubt even 50% of the Board Members survive that long.
Not at all what i'm saying re Magpies. God knows

Group think is a real thing. They weren't comfortable with not being in control of the decision making and convinced themselves they are best placed to make decisions. Could it be as small as the stadium deal and colour of the jersey? Don't know. Huge issues with structure notwithstanding on an individual level I don't think it is any deeper than a deluded need for control and oversight

And all this happened (ostensibly) over a jersey design. If HGB didn't like it they could have insisted on a redesign with stronger B&W elements. Costly, but not as costly as creating mayhem in a club that badly needs less drama. Or HBG could have handled it and - behind the scenes - negotiated to make sure the next jersey design was more westish.
They have had a predominantly black home jersey trotted out for years! The fact they chuck a hissy fit on the first year there is a slight shift to orange is completely ludicrous and childish. It couldn’t possibly be the reason for all this BS carry on, surely? Probably just a smokescreen for another agenda, but it has made them look completely ridiculous.

Fair enough.

Kinda makes sense.. but not fully convinced.

I know people keep saying that it's about more than money but why would HBG Board members want control of WT when it's a drop in the ocean in terms of their dealings and finances. They would know the amount of bad publicity they'd get.

Imagine you have an entity that doesn't make you any money but gives you all the bad reputation. Isn't that what WT is to HBG?

Maybe the exposure they get through Wests Tigers is more than what it sounds. Maybe the funding through the Rugby League channels is more than what I think.

I'd imagine wining and dining people for free at games is used for their networking. They would be getting free tickets to origin and other things. Even though we're not too flash, it's still a big draw card to get unlimited access inside an N.R.L team. Maybe it's the prestige they leverage for their own personal dealings to make things happen.

But @tig_prmz had a valid question, which I still can't find an answer for.

HBG would be well aware of their duties as directors, most notably their primary obligation to act in the best interests of the organisation. As such, there would have to be valid explanations for their decisions.

I am as angry as everyone here. What is happening is a full on disgrace.
And there is no telling how Benji or the playing group will react. They are a close-knit and loyal bunch.

I would like to know what the reasons or motives were behind HBG's decisions. If there are two sides to every story, HBG better come out and be transparent about theirs, and quick. And they better be in the best interests of this merged football club.
Agreed they need to explain the rationale behind their decision but every time they’ve been asked to do so they haven’t. You would expect their chairperson and the HBG rep on the board to come out and say something, anything really.

But all we get as fans is radio silence and wishy washy statements. Shows a complete lack of integrity and transparency from the HBG which is why we needed independent board members in the first place.

Isn't it clear that it's not happening.

As I said before, these guys aren't idiots. Even if let's say we go from Wests Tigers to Wests Magpies, they will lose a large chunk of funding that comes because of BRET wouldn't they?

Isn't it in their best self interests to make Wests Tigers as big and successful as possible? They are in a position where they can see that.

Even if you remove HBG and put in another XYZ company as owners, wouldn't they be in the same position?

You can't have 30+ inempt executives over 15 years on the Board. There is something in it for someone to gain that they keep whiteanting people. All this for an ego or power trip isn't worth it, I refuse to believe that's what it is.

I cannot find it, but money has to be a motivator.
Maybe it’s got intrinsic value , hard to nail down . Like being invited to corporate events . Or being an aspiring actor and getting invited to Hollywood parties / premieres etc . I’m with you , there’s got to be something we are missing

they paid $100 to be a debenture holder and proven incapable of running a football club
