Heamasi Makasini #303

One great game and you guys are already saying he's leaving. Cmon guys, that's some serious sadsack behaviour. Have some faith. We have great management, with a partially independent board that also has the amazing HBG members in it. They will make sure things go smoothly and we have no more internal drama.

There’s no way we let this fall apart. The people now running the club have always delivered and have never let us down.

We were briefly thrown off course during the Ricoh period, when the focus shifted more towards profit than protecting the true identity of this football club.

I’m sure Makasini would prefer this environment in the long term compared to other clubs who have much more money, success and stability etc.

Re Gary Johnston & Jaycar … This is from an article in The Australian by Brent Read in February 2016 ….

Pascoe also revealed the club had reached out to long-term Canterbury sponsor Jaycar, whose agreement with the Bulldogs ends this season.

Jaycar founder Gary Johnston is a long-term Tigers fan but the club faces a battle in winning him over after he insisted he would have no involvement with the Tigers — either as a sponsor or potential private owner of Balmain — until he saw some evidence that the club was moving forward.

Johnston admitted he gave brief thought to making a move on Balmain but opted to keep his powder dry. “I entertained briefly the thought of it last year but frankly I have gone off the idea,” Johnston said.

“At this stage I have no interest in doing it. Wests are always approaching me with a view to sponsoring them. My sponsorship with the Dogs finishes at the end of this year. Wests found out about that and said ‘maybe Gary will sponsor us’. Most of the conversation with Wests has been with a view to sponsoring Wests Tigers.

“At this stage I have basically desisted from that. My reason for that is I have very little faith in Wests Tigers’ management ability. They seem to lurch from crisis to crisis.”

But Pascoe said: “If he has a problem with how the club is run I would be happy to sit down with him.”
Not much has changed in 10 years has it

Exactly mate. The three wooden spoons were crucial in their plan of long term success as they needed to push out those who were undermining the mighty maggies. Everyone knows we would be a far stronger team if we had a bird on our chest as opposed to a tiger.

We never lose young talented juniors

If Bula is not done before rd 2 I agree we should start planning for life without him, we don’t need the contract dramas affecting another campaign.

True and Tino did a good job last year

But Bula is a much better fullback but he's had enough time to sign unless it's a problem with the board

Benji Marshall echoed those sentiments during his post-game interview, heaping praise on how Makasini has handled the pressure coming his way at a young age.

"I loved it," the Tigers coach said.

"He's put in the hard work this pre-season and for his age, he's really mature.

"It would be hard being that young and getting all the headlines and trying not to read into it too much, but I think he's done a really good job."

After starring in the pre-season, Makasini now appears to be a shoo-in to line up for the Tigers when their regular season kicks off in round two.

Co-captain Jarome Luai, who admittedly likes to keep a lid on things, couldn't hide his excitement when asked about the prodigious youngster.

"I'll give him his raps - I'm probably a guy not to give him his as many raps during the pre-season, I try to keep him grounded," he told Fox.

"But watching him in full flight out there and watching him run over some of my old teammates from Penrith, I was in awe."

Do yourselves a favour boys. Don’t get attached. It’s gonna be hard. Especially if he goes on a tear this year, wins rookie of the year and is considered the next big thing. Don’t get attached.
when people question his loyalty to the tigers, i direct them to his jersey presentation with his parents. he's a tiger through and through, you better believe it. look at how close knit the group is currently. and we've not even gone on a winning streak yet, imagine what they will be like when we're winning games.
