It's a shame because Skelton was newly brought.

As was Bird, as have been a bunch of players who we have picked.


Skelton seemed to have better defense then everyone but Turuva.
IMHO I think were coaching wrong. Laulili is going so why put the effort into him. (happy for him to earn his place, just were kinda not getting the best out of everyone).
 
The Wests Tigers are excited to confirm that Heamasi Makasini has extended his contract through until the end of the 2029 NRL season.

The Campbelltown City Kangaroos junior is currently signed through until the end of 2027, with this extension keeping Makasini at Concord for a further two seasons.

A product of the Wests Tigers Pathways, the 2024 Harold Matthews Cup Player of the Year has progressed through Harold Matthews, SG Ball Cup, Jersey Flegg, NSW Cup and into the NRL.

The 18-year-old has made a strong start to his career in the top grade, scoring on debut in Round 27, 2025 against the Gold Coast Titans, before some standout performances in the 2026 Witzer Pre-season Challenge.

The outside back took that form into the early part of the 2026 NRL season, making 15 tackle breaks and averaging 148 metres in six appearances.

The announcement comes ahead of Makasini’s return to the NRL on Saturday against the Bulldogs, after missing recent rounds due to bone bruising in his foot.

Makasini said he’s excited to extend his stay with the Club.

“I love playing here and I’m loving being a part of what we’re building. It’s where I’ve played all my junior footy and I want to be a part of bringing the Club success,” Makasini said.

“I’m grateful to Benji, the boys and the whole Tigers family for everything they’ve done for me so far, and I’m so happy to be staying here for another two seasons.

“I’m glad to be back playing this weekend and can’t wait to get out there with the boys in front of our home fans.”

Benji Marshall said it was exciting to have Makasini at the Club until 2029.

“Heamasi is a special talent who we feel is a big part of our future, and we’re looking forward to seeing him develop here,” Marshall said.

“He’s a player that’s come right through our system, and I know how much he loves representing the Wests Tigers. “We’re so happy to have Heamasi and his family with us until 2029.”
 
I’m a bit concerned that if Latu Fainu doesn’t start getting more time on the field he might decide to look somewhere where that might be an option.
I would like to see him given a couple of weeks in the 7 jumper so we could get a better idea of what he can or can’t bring to the team.
He might say his happy but every player wants to be in the starting side, as they should believe that they are a better option than those in front of them.

Maybe Benji doesnt want to see him in the 7 until he extends.

Certainly not a first grader currently, but he is young and has the body and athleticism that can be built on.

He's not far off being a genuine first grader. Once he has 30-40 games under his belt he'll be a force to be reckoned with. The game where he had his shocker it seemed the physicality and pressure was getting a bit much for him.

After seeing Payne Haas get manhandled in his first three games, then the next season he was instantly a weapon, I'll never write off a young gun with big wraps. At least not until they've had 3-4 seasons to develop.
 
Dont think Makasini was really prepared for the physicality of NRL..even though he was 108 kgs
and dominating at junior Rugby,
he was transparently manhandled by Wighton and Staggs ..two tough units btw ....plus others to a lesser extent
And heavily marked after the trial games where he showed his potential
Have no doubt he will be back with a reshaped body and do the same to others for the next decade

Was also carrying a foot injury.. which was causing him significant discomfort and inconvenience… if 💯 fit I think we may all be in for a pleasant surprise

Yeah 100%, I’m not writing him off at all.
We as a club have a lot to do and it’s good he has committed to doing it here.
