Heath Gibbs snapped up by Tigers

Low risk signing is the new cool thing to say around here.
We aren't buying first graders. We're trying to turn rocks into diamonds over and over again.

[shrugs] I dunno about Gibbs, but Twal and the Hooth are looking heaps better than rocks.

With the cap finally back in order WT should be able to keep the type of diamonds that we developed and are now shining at other clubs.

Would you prefer we bought 30 quality first graders? Wrong club pal, only the Roosters could get close to affording that.

Josh Addo Carr last year was bought on the cheap from Sharks, (and yes we managed it terribly after that and lost him) but point is he came good, well he improved anyway.

Hopefully there's a bigger signing coming soon (and no not Rochow as the bigger signing, hopefully there's another 1).

I'm tired of signing young guys that show promise.
Suli is still an unknown. We threw a ton if money at him and if he comes good eventually, we'll find away to lose him.
We just keeping making the same mistakes with recruitment

Hey Matchball how many cases of Lemons do you suck on each day?

Depends. I like a little lemon when drink tequila.
Got anything football related to talk about?

Just spoke with his under 16s coach.
He said his father is a board member here?

Ah one of those negative coaches/teachers that declare "you'll never amount to anything!" over one of their charges who turns out to be Jonathan Thurston!

Not saying Heath will turn out as good as Thurston, just hoping he can prove his old coach wrong. History is littered with successful people who have defied their childhood detractors.

Simple try by Heath Gibbs, he looks the goods in this Newcastle side.

On a similar note, that Newcastle five-eighth is playing really well. He has a lot of potential

Jack Johns, son of Matty

Oh God I'm getting old! Wasn't he only just six?

I know how you feel mate, supporting this club has made us all feel older, hopefully good times from here on in

Yes. Your lack of ability in the football department.

I haven't played since I was 13\. I guess my ability would be limited now I'm 41.

Newastle won the game against the Warriors 70-4\. This potential signing touched the ball about 3 times all game as Newie went through the middle or the right on every attack. He did score a lucky try after a couple of kicks bounced around. Disappointing we didn't get to see much of him when they were running up a cricket score.

Their right centre looked awesome, Johns looked good ,as did their fullback and halfback. But then the warriors have 3 p[layers that only recently turned 17 and are even worse than our nyc boys…

Gibbs played right centre, didn't see much ball though

I meant all their attack went down the left. When it did go right the ball rarely made it past the back rower, Sam McIntyre, but now it seems we've signed him too. He seemed to go alright, made about 200m, but there did seem to be better from that one game at least.

I know a bloke who coached Manly junior sides. Many years back they realised they only had the money to choose between DCE or Hodkinson, with Foran already at 5/8th. They went with DCE and this coach said it was a mistake, Hodkinson was the better footballer and DCE had been playing in QLD Cup for a reason.

DCE came into the side and they won a premiership. Now it's not to say that Hodkinson hasn't done anything in his career, but most judges would say DCE will have a superior career overall.

So yeah I agree, plenty of kids rated or not rated as juniors and did not meet expectations. Luke Brooks case in point. Or all the young kids I've heard about over the years, "next big thing" and they don't come on, but you get these battler kids who weren't the best players in their group, who really do come on because they have the mental toughness to make it.

I'm told that some pretty astute observers rate him highly. To the extent they believe he'll play NRL in 2018.

That's encouraging. Hard to gauge quality when your team wins by 70 points.

I hope so.

Could he slot in at 17?

I have no idea. I've never seen him play. My expectation is that is as good as SBW but he isn't a prat. I hope I'm not disappointed.

I've been really happy with the signings overall that we've made so far though. I get the impression we are building a good squad.

I agree. The fact that reynolds is our highest paid player next year on 750k shows how well the club has developed a more rounded team instead if a few stars and isp players. Also by the looks of it we will not have one SOO player next year which will really aid us during that period.

I feel better that eisenhuth and Twal are putting good numbers up. I was worried about our pack but its starting to actually look ok.

I think our pack and our backline are looking good with some depth. I'm not sure how our spine will perform and I think we lack some quality but I think we are going to be a more solid team given some time to gel.
