Heath Mason #288

Probably one of his better games for us today. It’s a low bar for sure but he was okayish in defence and challenged the line. Really shanked that final kick badly though…

Possibly mate but a long way to go forward for him to prove himself at least he has size that's a good base to work off.

Look at the dolphins today, the benchmark for outside backs tall, strong, athletic and fast most of them.

When was the last time our side could boast that.
Never - it’s been never!!

I thought Mason was very ordinary against the Phins, if he was playing center i would agree he had an ok game in attack however playing 7 he passed way too early and when he did go into the line he was tackled and killed any attacking shape we had out wide. No matter how you look at it he was very ordinary in defense. I'm not sure where you play him in first grade, as many have stated he is too good for Cup yet cant seem to make an impression in firsts. Upside is he is still quite young and should still develop, however it may not be at the WT.

True he does pass the ball way too early to be a decent halve.
But why does Bula always escape criticism for doing exactly the same thing on an equally important position being fullback ?

Bula showed some signs when we were desperate at the end of the game that he was willing to be more adventurous. To me it seems he is scared to throw a pass and doesn't trust himself. He needs to find a pass though, not to become a playmaker, just so that there is less attention on him the next time he runs.
