At the end of the day, they won the game. Yes it was frustrating, but the old saying is winners are grinners. The only thing to do from here is keep winning and wait for next time at a hostile Penrith.

It's actually good for us, though. That'll surely sting for our players. I'd get a big poster of it in the clubhouse as motivation: If you lose the game opposing coaches get to act like that.

But yeah, he's a fool. It's just dumb from him. He talks about the sort of club he wants the panthers to be in his press conference and then he acts like a brat after a win. He's a smug bugger, and it hurts because his clubs going great and they just beat us and we lost our cool, so we don't have much to say.

I also don't think we should be talking about violence, even light-heartedly, that sort of thing gets misconstrued these days and we should also put Ivan's behaviour in a broader context of things that actually matter. But yeah, didn't think I could develop a lower opinion of him than I had already but then he goes and acts like that.

I would bet you a lot of money that the players wouldn’t give a damn about what he did. If you think they as emotional as supporters you’d be wrong.

Did you watch Cleary's response to the fans? the kiss? that's a coach getting emotional, nevermind players. I understand players are professional but there's no way that doesn't grate them. Did you see our intensity last night? And the Panthers? It meant a lot to both clubs and it was not just any match. I think players don't care when other players leave for better money or get fired up about loyalty or anything like that, but having your coach leave midseason after many of them signed to play for him would cause bitterness and resentment for sure.

Don’t think so. Players don’t think like supporters.

Once again , Ivan the terribles true colours come out. Not one ounce of humility or integrity in this guy. The biggest scum in the NRL. I hope karma comes back to bite him soooo bad. I bet Madge and the players will use this for motivation the next time we play them and I pray to god we kick their asses. I’m a tigers fan and a fan of any opposing team playing the panthers.

Terrible human, but with a little luck he will never coach a team to a title. Little things killed us tonigh, I thought our six and seven were lost for ideas in attack, but if the ref actually got a few calls right we would have probably won

Speaking of calls...the one at the start when they called a knock on from Garner...was that actually a knock on? I saw him juggle it while he was standing, but for the life of me I couldn't see a knock on? Cost us a try in the end.

He should be sanction by the NRL for inciting the crowd with his behaviour as a crowd we pay our money and we can vent or feelings how ever we like

If Wests Tigers don't put pressure on the NRL to sanction Cleary re "inciting the crowd" @Elderslie_Tiger I will tend to think we are a weak club.
Cleary didn't apologize for his disgraceful display in purposely belittling one of our fans when he said.... "it was just an incident, I PROBABLY wish I didn't do anything".
Imo when you put down our fans you are at the same time putting down Wests Tigers.
The twitter article I have quoted went on to say...."While Wests Tigers officials and fans weren't impressed with Cleary's behaviour, MOST recognised that it only adds to the theatre and builds on tension between the two clubs, which ultimately increased interest"....Really!....The response I have noticed from 99% of people on this forum is of disgust....so who are the Wests Tigers officials that don't see it that way and are therefore condoning Cleary's action?
Imo the only sort of theatre and tension that Cleary blowing kisses to a Wests Tigers fan develops.... is the start of the sort of tension that exists between English soccer hooligans, where opposing fans actually hate each other, and act on it.
If this is the style of fan base that develops due to Cleary's stupidity....I don't want any part of it.

It didn't "develop due to clearys stupidity"... Someone else instigated it all.

On the contrary, I think we are a weak club if we make a big deal of it. Let the talking be done on the field. The way Cleary responded to a bunch of fans who forgot the game went for 80 minutes has bugger all to do with the club IMO. The fans don't represent the club, so why should they be making a deal of it.

Cleary made a fool of himself on his own we don't have to do anything. The vision is there for all to see and we can pull it out whenever we want to remind him of how stupid he looked.

The truth of the matter is it's only a big deal to some because we lost. Emotions were high and people let it get under their skin. Was it a classy act by Cleary? Of course not, but i'd rather our club say nothing, put it in the memory bank and let RESULTS do the talking.

'Unacceptable': Behind Cleary's kiss that riled Tigers boss and fans
By Michael Chammas
July 5, 2020 — 4.52pm

On Saturday night, Ivan Cleary came face-to-face with the fans he walked out on for the first time since his acrimonious departure from the Wests Tigers at the end of 2018, and the rendezvous didn't disappoint.

Until Saturday's emotion-charged match at Bankwest Stadium, Cleary had avoided the wrath of his former admirers thanks to the NRL's scheduling of Magic Round last year, which saw the Tigers' home game against Penrith moved to Brisbane.

It wasn't quite what he would've experienced had last night's match been played at Leichhardt Oval, but Cleary got a reminder of just how much his departure scarred the Tigers, and in particular one irate fan who expressed his dismay through the glass of the Bankwest Stadium coaches box.

Nicholas Zorbas, a former Fox Sports News producer, was at the match with his son. When the full-time siren went, Zorbas' son turned to Cleary to give him the thumbs up. Cleary followed suit, returning a thumbs up of his own to the 12-year-old Tigers fan.

That sent Zorbas into an expletive-laden tirade, dropping F-bombs and C-bombs at Cleary that prompted the coach to point towards the scoreboard and blow kisses in the Tigers fans' direction after full-time.

"The pointing to the scoreboard, sarcastic clapping and blowing kisses was from me after I told him what I thought of the way he treated our club," Zorbas said on social media after the Tigers' 19-12 loss to Penrith.

"Think I hate Penrith more than the Bunnies and Dogs now. Was so angry at FT. We were gallant and unlucky on so many occasions - and just let fire to a person I lost all respect for after how he treated our club. Hope my boy doesn't remember some of the words I used."

"Was fed up. That ref was pathetic, the rub of the green went against us and I just really hate him and how he shafted us last season. Don't get me started on his son."

Tigers chairman Lee Hagipantelis chose his words more eloquently than Zorbas when the Herald contacted him on Sunday afternoon but wasn't impressed with the ex-Tigers coach's actions.

"It was unacceptable and unprofessional," Hagipantelis said. "Those of us involved in the administration of the game should not be engaging in such a manner. I don't think what Ivan did was particularly helpful. I noticed that he said after the game that he regretted doing it, so at least there was an acknowledgement that it wasn't the preferred course of conduct.

"It was just unnecessarily antagonistic. Ivan is fully aware of his history with our club and the manner in which he departed. I don't think it was necessary for him to inflame the passions."

Panthers chairman Dave O'Neill defended Cleary's actions, admitting he was happy to see the coach's emotions after such a physical and hard-fought victory.

"I thought it was great of him to show passion for our club," O'Neill said. "I had no problem with it whatsoever. I don't know what was said or what happened, but it was good to see the passion Ivan showed for our great club. I wish the Tigers all the best for the rest of the year."

Cleary admitted that he regretted his behaviour but took exception to some of the comments aimed at him. "I’m not used to fans I don’t think. It’s been a while since they’ve been here," Cleary said after the game.

“It was just an incident. I probably wish I didn’t do anything, but I could have done worse. It’s all good. There’s no dramas. I didn’t like what he said to me. I’m not used to fans. I was probably a bit emotional. I’m glad I didn’t do what I felt like."

While Tigers officials and fans weren't impressed with Cleary's behaviour, most recognised that it only adds to the theatre and builds on the tension between the two clubs, which ultimately increases interest.

Cleary came into the season under enormous pressure, failing in his first season back at the Panthers in 2019. The sex-tape saga in the preseason, coupled with poor performances and disgruntled players, threatened to derail Cleary's second tenure at the club before it got off the ground.

O'Neill could have been left with egg on his face had 2020 continued to follow the same path as the previous season, however results and performances over the opening eight rounds has justified his faith in Cleary.

The Panthers have always had talented juniors, but Cleary has them all singing from the same hymn sheet and now considered genuine contenders for the title in 2020.

While Tigers hooker Harry Grant is the early favourite for rookie of the year, Panthers centre Stephen Crichton shouldn't be far behind him. The 19-year-old has been a revelation on the left edge for Penrith, who intend to secure his services beyond his 2021 contract expiry before he becomes a free agent in November.

Tough time no excuse for Leilua
Wests Tigers centre Joseph Leilua has been struggling with a delicate personal issue the past fortnight and, while the club is sympathetic of his situation, they are refusing to use it as an excuse for his behaviour on Saturday night.

A fired-up Leilua now faces four to six weeks on the sidelines for an off-the-ball high shot on Panthers fullback Dylan Edwards. Coach Michael Maguire wasn't impressed after the game and some stern words from the Tigers boss would be expected when the team returns to training on Monday.

The Tigers are confident Leilua's centre partner Moses Mbye won't miss any football, despite suffering a knee injury in the loss to the Panthers.
